Rating: Summary: If you don't know where to start. Review: If you're overwhelmed with magic book titles, and don't know which book to buy to start your experience with magic, BUY THIS BOOK.Keep in mind it was written before TV, so you must be a enthusiastic reader and a magic lover. It requiers a lot careful and minucious reading and re-reading, but only because of its very precise explanations. The next step after studying from this book, is watching a good magician perform the sleights so you can have an idea of speed and timing. Buy it only if you are truly commited to learning non self working card tricks and sleights. If I had to throw away all my magic books except one, this would be it.
Rating: Summary: It's the best book for card magic Review: If you've ever been interested in learning about sleight of hand with cards then this is the book for you! This book teaches all of the basic sleights and then moves onto more difficult ones as the chapters go on. This was the first magic book I ever bought and it still remains my favorite book in my library. It's worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Best Book for Beginner Card Tricksters Review: Royal Road to Card Magic is a reprint of a classic card conjuring text. The great thing about this book is the ingenious way Hugard and Braue teach you a card sleight and then teach you a card effect using that sleight. An excellent old card conjuring book that will stand the test of time. Highly recommended.

Rating: Summary: Content Useful. Patter Dated Review: The book covers basic card control, the glide, the glimpse, the key card, the palm, the backslip, false shuffles and cuts, the double lift, the pass, reverses, the classic force, top and bottom changes and use of arrangements. It also contains 76 tricks, of which about 25% are excellent, 50% are unremarkable, and 25% are weak. You'll get more than enough usable material, including many classics of card magic. This book itself is rightly regarded as a classic of magic. However much of the suggested patter is overly formal, reflecting the style of the late 1940's, when it was written. There are illustrations, but no photographs. The book is aimed at complete beginners, but provides material that would be of use to anyone interested in card magic.
Rating: Summary: a great intro to card magic Review: This being the first book I bought on the subject has proven to be an amazing learning aid. Though some of the descriptions could be a bit more, ummm descriptive the book is still very easy for even beginers to understand at most times. I would have appreciated a few more pictures but the ones in the book do prove quite usefull. The author refers to different parts of your hands, these instructions are very hard to decifer at times but with enough time you should be able to figure it out. The tricks included at the end of the chapters are also a bit shallow compared to other "starter" tricks that I have found in other books. However I can not stress enough if you want to get a book to start with this is the one, just don't expect it to be the only book you will be buying to learn the ins and outs of card magic.
Rating: Summary: Great book -- DEEP Review: This book is definately one you should consider getting - whether you've never touched a deck before or you know a few card tricks, this book is great. Even though this book was writtin in the 50's, it's content is unbeatable - sometimes the words are outdated, but this book is DEEP. You will have a new respect for card conjuring after just reading the Introduction, which is just as good as the rest of the book. Great book - you MUST READ it if you want to get anything out of it though -- don't just skim through.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars and havn't even finished the whole book Review: this book is great! just read it in order without skipping around in the book and u will be able to amaze everyone with card magic on the first day! i've only read through 3/4 of the book and i already know more card ricks than i can remember! easy to learn, easy to preform, near impossible to see how you did it! great way to break the ice or spice up a boring gathering. just make sure to bring a pack of brand new un-opened cards with you so people believe you are not using a trick deck!
