Rating: Summary: You better watch your step, Pat will make you laugh! Review: I have most of the books Patrick has written. He is one of the funnest men in the world. He is very good at taking you down an obvious path and at the last minute taking an unexpected turn to uncontrolled laughter. However, many women fail to find the humor in these stories. I guess it is guys have lived similar experiences and can certainly see every bit of his humor. The best part of his books is each chapter is a complete story. You do get more enjoyment after you learn all the charaters in his books.
Rating: Summary: hard to finish, but impossible to put down... Review: I just started this book. I like to read every evening, just after I go to bed in order to help myself fall asleep. This book is my "anti-routine." It makes me laugh so hard, I can scarcely finish a paragraph. Tears are running down my cheeks, the bed is shaking for all its worth, and going to sleep is the last thing I can do. Patrick F. McManus has a masterpiece with these oh-so-funny accounts of his outdoor experiences. Read it yourself, and weep!

Rating: Summary: A brilliant man and great humorist Review: I neither hunt nor fish although I have been camping quite a bit. Nonetheless, I find Patrick McManus to be a talented short story writer and very funny man. One does not have to even be interested in hunting and fishing to find McManus's work funny. In fact, since reading this book, I have been eyeing a $250 rod and reel at the local fishing supply store, although McManus would probably recommend I start out with a "fish pole".This book was virtually non-stop hilarity. I (at least) chuckled at every page. Many pages caused me to LOL. This guy is an american classic.
Rating: Summary: Funniest book I EVER read Review: I picked up "A Fine and Pleasant Misery" one day purely by chance. I was bored in an outdoor equipment store. I opened it to a random page, and began to read... Within a page I started to grin. By the second page I gaffawed (I noticed a couple customers nervously glance in my direction). At the third page I burst out in peals of hysterical laughter, tears rolling down my face. Everyone in the vicinity was openly staring at me. I slammed the book shut and made a beeline to the cash register. I have been a devoted fan ever since. Buy this book, and you will be too. Trust me on this. Only...read in the privacy of your home. It's less embarassing that way :) Best Regards, Eric Lee
Rating: Summary: Greatest outdoor storyteller ever. Review: I started reading Pat's stories when I was about twelve years old (1974/75)while we lived in a logging camp. The first story I remember reading was "Cigars, Logging trucks and Know-it-alls" and I remember trying to finish the story through laugh tears. We even named a later dog of ours after the dog in the part about the cigars(Rupert). Another one of my favorites is "Whomper" about a slingshot. My Grandpa lived on the Humptulips river near us and helped us make slingshots, so I could really relate. Keep up the great work!!!
Rating: Summary: A humorous outdoor book, that will keep you reading it. Review: I was introduced to McManus through a friend, and I am very glad that it happened. His books are very entertaining, and keep you eager to read another chapter. The overall best part, is that if you have ever had any experiences in the outdoors, you can relate to all of these stories in some way.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: If McManus cannot make you laugh, you really need to see someone professionally. The only problem is to continue reading while your eyes are full of laughing tears. This guy has some real problems and is huge fun to read.
Rating: Summary: mythic characters, hillarious stories Review: Like many of McManus' readers, I am neither a hunter of a fisher (Though I have fished a couple of times). What draws me to McManus are the near mythic characters he has created in his works. McManus puts these charaters in all kinds of unfortunate but hilarious situations. Years after first reading some of them, they are still with me. McManus is one of the true literary geniuses of our time. The stories of "A Fine and Pleasant Misery" are a prime example of this. Get it for yourself and see if I'm telling the truth.
