Rating: Summary: A Simpsons Fan Essential Review: A big, thick, meaty slice of all things Simpsons, "The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family" is a quality reference guide for obsessive Simpsons fans. It features plot summaries, memorable quotes and character bios throughout. Just reading an episode entry will bring back fond memories of your first viewing, and if you're thinking of buying this book, I'm sure you've seen every episode multiple times. Plus, you'll get the low-down on the inside jokes, movie parodies and celebrity guest voices the show is famous for. Besides copies of the episodes themselves, what else could a Simpsons fan possibly want or expect? Make no mistake, this is no cheapie knock-off. It's full color, and amazingly in-depth. Despite just a few typos some proof-reading would've taken care of, this book should... nay, it MUST be in your Simpsons collection, along with its updated companion volume.
Rating: Summary: A must for any one who watches the Simpsons Review: I have been watching the Simpsons since it first came on over a decade ago. It has always amazed me how this show has stayed consistently funny over the years. Every line of dialogue in every show almost seems to have a humorous spin to it somewhere in it. This book helps you to identify those inanities and much more. Each page offers a description of a secondary character (i.e. Superintendent Chalmers, Very Tall Man, or Disco Stu), a complete synopsis of the plot, selected quotes from the episodes dialogue, and a box of subtle gags and jokes that the untrained eye may have missed. It is however annoying that the writers and publisher did not combine the second volume into this book. Requiring an extra use of funds. Also annoying about this book is the difficulty in finding some of the episodes because of a rather incomplete index. However, this is required reading for fans of the show.
Rating: Summary: Uh, I read it...didn't like it... Review: When I [found] A Complete Guide..., I could not wait to dig into it to relive some of the funniest episodes from my favorite show as well as catch quick and/or subtle jokes I might have missed. After spending an hour or so flipping through its page by page guide, I was ready to clean my ceiling fan blades. A Complete Guide utterly lacks the satiric tone of the show. It's the equivalent of having someone you work with who isn't terribly funny describe an episode of the Simpsons from the previous evening. Simply reading factual accounts of bits that are sublimely funny left me cold. The ultimate Simpsons book has yet to be written.
Rating: Summary: A Simpsons smorgasbord! Review: "The Simpsons" has consistently distinguished itself as one of the most intelligently written comedies on television. This book is a gloriously detailed guide to the series' first eight seasons. Each individual episode gets a full page (in some cases, two pages) which contains a plot summary, full-color scenes, memorable lines of dialogue, writing/directing credits and other appetizing tidbits. The book's many supplemental sections include a complete "Itchy and Scratchy" filmography, a collection of Krusty the Clown merchandise, and a guide to the original Simpsons short films. As ambitious and successful as this book is, there are some omissions. I would have liked to have seen photos and short bios of each of the main cast members who bring these characters to life. Some perspective on the show's impact upon pop culture would also have been welcome. These criticisms aside, this is a wonderfully funny and informative book. From the secret ingredient in the "Flaming Moe" to the lyrics of "The Stonecutters' Song," this book is packed with delights and surprises. If you are a casual "Simpsons" fan, this book may turn you into an obsessed fanatic; if you are already such a fanatic, you will be in heaven.
Rating: Summary: The Simpson Bible Review: The opening introduction to this book tells us that the creators of this book went to great lengths to ensure that this would NOT be a cheapy little 9 word a page guide on bad paper with lousy pictures and that just about every aspect of the episodes big or small would be shown to us and brought to our attention. They have succeeded entirely. The Simpsons: a Complete Guide to our Favorite Family covers scenes from episodes, quotes, guest stars, voices of characters, episode numbers, continuity problems (There are a few!), hard to spot stuff, stuff we might have missed, character bios, air dates, couch gags, things Bart writes on the chalkboard at the beginning of the episode, plot summaries, story similarities to movies and much more! All the pictures are clear, there is LOTS to read and I do think the paper is good. Want to know what that little note says on Krusy's door in the episode The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie show? This book tells us. Want to know just where and in what episode Homer lets out his trademark D'oh? Take a look at pages 32 and 33. Did you know that the Springfield Church once had their sign read No Shirt No Shoes No Salvation? You do now. This is wonderful and impeccably detailed source material for one of the greatest shows ever made that covers the first 8 seasons and don't worry additional guides are being made to cover subsequent seasons. Get this one though for the real meat on the show, then get the others that will be made. All in all an excellent read for the Simpson's fan and it has no reason to make us D'oh! in discouragement.
Rating: Summary: Buy it for the Little Things Review: If you love the Simpons, your love this book. The only real question is why you should buy it after watching the shows so many times on t.v. Why, because it is so funny. Watching the shows, you may miss alot of things, because they go by to quick, or because there is too much happening. The book slows it down and shows your the inside secrets on the gags and jokes. Each page has a little biography about a charactor on the show. Each page gives us a little bit more to laugh about. Buy it, enjoy it, and have good fun. It is great fun for anyone from 10-100.
Rating: Summary: You can read this book over and over and over and .... Review: This is a guide to the first 7 seasons of the simpsons. It has details that are hard to pick up as well as tidbits of information you didn't know. Keep it handy while you watch and see if you can pick up anything in the show that is in the book. I enjoy this book very much!
Rating: Summary: Woohoo! Simpsons merchandise! Review: This is the single best piece of Simpsons merchandise ever. The book's got everything, from sneaky little hidden jokes, to full and complete episode synopses, this book's got it all. It's a must-have for beginning Simpsons fans and freeze-framers alike. Only one thing wrong with it though: get the hardback, because for some reason the paperback copy fell apart. You've got to get this book. It's much more entertaining than this review! :)
Rating: Summary: Simpsons Fanatics Should Rejoice Review: This is the perfect book for any Simpsons fanatic. This book has a detailed synopsis of every episode and features many things that you might not have noticed in an episode. This book also features a charactor bio, a list of what happens in the beginning sequence on the couch, and of course a list of everytime Homer says DOH!. This book has all that I mentioned plus much, much more. If you're a big Simpsons fan don't miss out on the quality piece of merchandise.
