Summary: A light-hearted satire for post-modern Guys
Review: I say Guys with a capital G because this is written for us, and not for women. Sometimes I share a book with my wife, but not this one...not that it's X-rated, but it revels in Delano's pursuit of women. It is also NOT a very political book, in spite of some of the other reviews here. Instead, the focus is on the cynical and often funny way Delano exploits affirmative action programs, runs into or avoids zealots from both the left and the right, and generally learns to manipulate the system for personal gain.

This was a fun read for me. I realized right away it would not be heavy, and it had minimal personal or intellectual insight. But that was OK. I think Orozco is saying indirectly, we all take these things way too seriously, let's pursue some happiness in life.

And the best thing about Delano is that he DOES learn some lessons along the way, about honesty, love, and devotion. I won't give away any surprises, but the plot spirals into a situation where he finally has to make some choices, and thanks to making the right friends, he makes the right choices. That, and no political theme or social statement, is the greatest reward of reading Delano.

Summary: A Total Surprise
Review: I'd heard about this book for quite a while, but hesitated before buying it. Silly of me because I discovered it's truly excellent, worth every penny. The main character Eddie Delano has left on indelible mark on my consciousness -- and I found the story and writing to be absolutely first rate and engaging. Don't make my mistake -- buy this book right now! Also recommended: The Losers Club by Richard Perez, Women by Charles Bukowski

Summary: Best Satire I've Read In Years
Review: It's rare to find a book that gets you to laugh on the very first page then manages to keep the reader amused, intrigued, and amazed thrughout at the insights into "everyman's" need for love, acceptance, and freedom and the lengths "everyman" will go through to meet and protect those needs. High school and college students alike will love this book, which is why I've made it required reading for the college English Literature class that I teach.

Summary: Laughs galore!
Review: It's unfortunate that books from small presses don't get the promotion bigger houses provide. Some of these unheralded gems would surely be best sellers. Such is the case with 'Delano'.
If you're old enough to remember the 70's (and a good pop culture history lesson if you're not), you'll laugh along at the campus misadventures of college student Eddie Delano. Women libbers, incompetent educators, the 'P.C.' police... they're all here. And poor Eddie has to make sense of a world filled with these knuckleheads. (Winston Ashford Gonzalez is a character for the ages!)
'Delano' is pure fun; get ready to laugh your head off!

Summary: Still Chuckling
Review: My husband read this book and kept it from me. He was laughing every time he picked it up. I wanted to know what the joke was. 'You won't get it. It's not your type of book.' Well, that did it. I had to read. At first I kept wondering, is this guy serious? But then I started to laugh. I'm not supposed to laugh at this kind of thing. But I couldn't stop laughing. Orozco's satire is just plain funny. He understands human nature and cuts right to the absurdity. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to enjoy an unique point of view.

Summary: It Enlarged My Mind, Dude
Review: One of my friends in school read this book. I had never seen him read anything before. When he finished, he smiled and said, 'It enlarged my mind, dude.' That was enough for me to buy it, but then I couldn't find it anywhere until I went to Amazon, and they said it would take two to three days to get it. What gives? I read it in one day and laughed from the first page to the last. This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. I really liked Sam. The part about the worm farm was really awesome. I could say more, but I don't want to give it away. Great characters, man--really.

Summary: A Complete Scream!
Review: The misadventures of Eddie Delano at college are still true today decades later. As a recent college graduate, I can attest to this. I had the pleasure to hear the author read his book at The Reader's Edge Bookstore in Montrose, CA and it's even better with his deadpan delivery. After hearing him read the first chapter, I knew I had to have this book.

Summary: Hi, John!
Review: This book came up as I was searching for something else, and I am really glad to see that it's garnered so many fans. The praise for Delano is really well-deserved. This funny, funny book reverberates beautifully and truthfully for those of a certain age; is there such a thing as poignant sarcasm? Those of my students (high school) who have read Delano have been as taken with the book as I am. READ DELANO!
