Summary: Irresistably funny and very clever
Review: .
This book is remarkable for the variety of reactions it elicits from people. I took it into the office last week and found that while some people couldn't stop laughing (as I did), others read it slowly, almost reverentially. A few even got mad that folks would paint their feline companions.
I think there's a big surprise factor in seeing the cats we're so familiar with suddenly transformed into something quite unexpected -- some are not even like cats any more, and it makes people react quite strongly.
Well worth a look, and a great read too. One of the funniest books I've read in while.

Summary: I am vindicated!
Review: As a person who has been painting her cats for years, I was delighted to see that this is widely accepted and practiced! My only complaint is the lack of information on safe dyes and paints for this use. I fear that some people might use toxic paints and dyes on their animals.

Summary: Paint + Cats = FUN!
Review: Astounding! How do Busch and Silver do it? I thought Why Paint Cats was at the pinnacle of literature, but Why Paint Cats goes one step further! I was drawn to the wonderful use of colour and captivated by Silver's witty commentary. A great laugh with exceptional artistic value. Enjoy~!

Summary: Why Paint Cats
Review: I absolutely loved the book. However, I bought two books as a gift for a couple of my cat loving friends. I got the feeling that they didn't look as favorably on the subject matter as I did.

Summary: Purfect Prank
Review: I bought a copy of this book for myself and a copy for a friend. I'm not going to give the copy to my friend and I don't really know what to do with the one I have. It's not because I'm offended at the idea of people painting cats. I just feel ripped off. I bought the book because it was quirky and pretty. While the pictures are still lovely, apparently they're all done in photoshop. There is no disclaimer on the book anywhere, and while I'm sort of glad that people aren't really painting cats, I can mock up pictures of painted cats in photoshop all on my own. This book isn't an oddity of human nature, it's a fraud that doesn't have the decency to let you know that. You have to first buy it and then figure it out for yourself. I want my money back.

Summary: Terrible
Review: I did not read the book. I would never read the book. It has to be one of the most sadistic and cruel things to do to a cat or any animal. To paint a creature with toxic materials; a creature who grooms and cleans themselves is mean beyond human dignity. And don't tell me any type of paint is not toxic.
You take a helpless creature that you have adopted into your life to nuture and protect and you do this insidious thing. Anything that they ingest that is not their food or natural things is toxic...

Summary: Incredibly cute book
Review: I got this as a gift for a friend, but I did look at it before I gave it away, and the only problem with it is that it's not long enough. More pictures are needed of the painted cats, but it is a very cute book.

Summary: deadpan humor, Photoshop-style
Review: I got this book for Christmas 2002. I'm an art student, so I appreciated the spot-on parodies of art criticism. However, I can also easily tell that these cats were "painted" in Photoshop or a similar image-manipulation program, using filters and processes that give a furry texture to painted areas. There is one photo I'm not certain about (a white cat with blue hearts), but in almost any other photo in the book, the digital processing is pretty obvious. The cats aren't physically painted... it's their photos that have been decorated, not their bodies.

I'm really alarmed by the concept that people aren't looking closely enough at the pictures to tell that they're normal cat photos that have been manipulated to look "painted." Some of them are really clever and enjoyable; I like the cat who has been given a curly moustache, the cat painted to look like an orange and blue carp, and the cat who has tribal "tattoos". Since this book does not, however, have a big sign on the front that says "THIS IS A PARODY" - and it should - please don't buy yourself a copy if you don't get the joke, and please don't buy it for anyone else who you think might take it seriously and try to paint their cat. It may sound like a cute idea, but you could really hurt your beloved pet... and who would want to do that?

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I have really enjoyed this book- visually, it is beautiful- with lots of amazing photographs. It is one of those books I can pick up, and look at again and again. A must for anyone who loves cats!

Summary: Lame excuse for a book....wasted paper....
Review: I looked through that book lastnight..., and only becasue my fiance was begging me to. Needles to say, I was unimpressed with the way the book trys to fool its readers into actually thinking people paint their cats like this. The image quality is horrible, and their poor job of "painting" the cats only had me fooled for about half of a second. No where in the book(that I could find) does it state that these pictures have been touched up. I did not look long for words stating this, as i was so disgusted at the poor "photo-chopping" they did...
