Rating: Summary: By "Ride Alone" instead!!! Review: I found myself at an event in November 2002 where Bill was pushing his "When you Ride Alone, you Ride with Bin Laden" book. I was so fascinated with how good it was, and how creative it is, that I kind of went on a Bill Maher kick. I bought this book afterward. Being an incredibly SLOW reader, I was still halfway though this little paperback in under an hour. It's mostly questions that were asked at a show, the occasional comment by Bill, and very rarely sprinkled with guests' answers. There are a few gems in it, but overall, your money is much better spent on "When you Ride Alone you ride with Bin Laden."
Rating: Summary: Not Interested Review: I used to like Bill Maher. Now, after the Clinton Scandal, I've realized that he's just a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party. He's so one sided it's sickening! I'm not really interested in the ramblings of anyone with an agenda to sell. It's obvious to anyone with half a brain that the last thing the Clinton scandal is about is sex. It's about obstruction of justice & lying to a federal grand jury, etc. It's also about the lack of integrity of the current president. Maher tries to water the issue down to lame sex jokes to take the focus off the real issues. When someone tries to enlighten his audience, he talks over them & cuts to commercial. That's why I'm not watching or reading anymore. Also, the way he slandered Ross Perot during the last election (refering to him as insane, etc.) was criminal. I think most of us wish Ross was president now. At least he wouldn't be a total embarrasment like the current president.
Rating: Summary: Not Politically Incorrect, Just Politically Unfunny Review: I'm amazed at the number of readers who think that Bill Maher is a liberal. He's nothing of the kind; as often as not, his views are reactionary and right-wing. That, however, not why I dislike his book and his TV show. The reason for that is that he isn't funny enough to be called a comedian or insightful enough to be called a political commentator. On his show, his manner is often offensively arrogant; he clearly regards himself as far more intelligent than his guests, but guess what: HE ISN'T! His observations are often off-base, and even when they aren't, it's usually because they're so OBVIOUS that they're hardly worth making in the first place. (Bill Maher is the kind of guy who thinks he's brilliant and daring for observing that the earth isn't flat; what he doesn't realize is that the rest of us have already known that for a long time.) The last few years have given us a bumper crop of bad books by comedians, and this one is the worst of the bunch. Amazon has millions of other books more deserving of your hard-earned money. Life is short; don't waste yours reading books like this.

Rating: Summary: Wow... Review: Listen, people, Bill Maher IS NOT A DEMOCRAT. He is a libertarian... while some of his views are clearly democratic, he dispises both republicans and democrats, and for good reason. Bill is also a brilliant and funny guy, with this book clearly showing his cleaver and sharp humor.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing! Review: Maher is great but this book isn't. Bill often has profound viewpoints that I agree with. In this book, however, Maher too often placed a higher priority on being funny than making intelligent remarks. Also, although the cover says "The Best of POLITICALLY INCORRECT," the book is not really related to the show. I expected intelligent comments by both Maher and a wide variety of guests. Instead, nearly all of the book consists of statements made by Maher (not on his show) and not by his guests. This book is not worth reading although Maher's show is worth watching. Lee J. Rating: Summary: Sigh...another wannabe Review: Maher is perhaps the most annoying figure ever to not go away from TV. His obsequious (Sp?) nature when it comes to VIP's is pathetic; he will go with the most popular cool person's point of view on his thankfully cancelled show so that he can be invited to their parties...Most of his shows followed this guest fromat: unfunny SNL comedian (is there any other?); minor celebrity from sitcom; super-leftist celebrity who is cool; and whacko right-winger with poor social skills. Maher would try to team up with SNLer (think Dana Carvey or Jon Lovitz) to berate right winger's views (thus tacitly destroying his credibility) and to elicit cheers from studio audience (which, in Maher 's small mind, is the ONLY way to victory), while cool celebrity worked on right winger too and sitcommer keeps mouth shut. The reason I point this out is Maher 's "books" (just ghost written by someone following him around back stage) are aimed with the same sight: he goes on long, unintelligent, everyone's-heard-this-before left leaning rants, hoping to get himself a guest spot on SNL or a trip to his beloved Playwhore Mansion. I'm surprised he and Michael Moore haven't become official preachers for the Democratic Choir; they certainly aren't convincing anyone else of their views. But then again, all Maher really wants is a sitcom, and not even his most ardent liberal supporters aren't willing to subject themselves to a primetime dose of Maher's "comedy". Good for them, because if he had any talent, he'd be much more likeable to the right and left, and much more able to sway people; but he has no logic, only a pathetic will-to-power.
