Rating: Summary: Excellent book for intermediate players Review: This book is really fun. The lessons are laid out really well and the songs on the CD are actually pretty cool. My girlfriend makes fun of me because I listen to it in the car like a normal CD. I guess that's kinda weird. Anyways, I consider myself to be an intermediate to advanced guitar player and I thought the lessons were pretty challenging at times. I would think that a absolute beginner would have a real tough time with this book. I think you should have a real good idea of how to play basic chords and scales before you dive into this one. I can't wait to buy the next one in the series.
Rating: Summary: A great buy! Review: This is an excellent course! Easy to understand, it builds in a coherent manner right to the end. The beginner should have at least a basic knowledge of chord changes and a few chops but that's about it. If you are a rank beginner use it with an instuctor and you'll have no problems. Too many course's promise to teach you how to play the Blues and then give you some scales, a couple of riffs and then turn you loose with a track telling you to "Jam along with what you have learned". The problem is you have learned just enough to confuse yourself. If you are real sharp, fine. But if not, about ten pages of most courses and you are wondering if you wasted your money. This one is an exception. It's worth the money!! Stick with it and when you finish you'll be able to tackle something more advanced with a basic understanding of what you are doing!
Rating: Summary: 100% Useable Review: Unlike with many instructional music books where only parts of it is useful, the materials in this book is 100% useable to practical blues guitar playing. The lessons assumes you have no prior knowledge and builds up to more sophisticated topics as chapter progresses. This allows you to start at the level you are comfortable with and move foward. The book is finely balanced between theory, scales, and actual practice. You won't find informations in this book lacking. You could actually be playing a pretty good solos before you're done with this book. Overall the best book I've found on learning blues guitar playing. Highly recommended !!.
Rating: Summary: Great mixture of theory and licks you can use right away! Review: Written for the entry to moderate level student. I liked the way the book mixes theory with usable licks right away. No time wasted on "kids" songs in this book. While you won't get entire copyrighted songs you do get snippets that you'll recognize. I was able to put what I learned to work right away and really impress my friends with some of the great licks I had learned "overnight."
