Rating: Summary: Side Splitting, terrific and thouroughly enjoyable> Review: Barry Trotter is the newest hero of the old DINKY,(Double Income No Kids Yet) generation. He is everything we aspire to be but fall terribly short of achieving. A terrifically funny book, the parodies with JKR "original" will have you laughing out loud, a lot. This is okay if you read at home but on the train, to work, in the mornings, people may look at you like an escaped mad-man from the local asylum!! Wish I had some of Barry's magic skills, I could become a world class Gigalo or indeed a world class comedy writer like Mr Gerber clearly is. So what you all waiting for, grab a copy before JKR has them all bought up and burnt!!
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the movie! Review: Man, this book really seems to ... off 12 year olds! I'm 33, and I loved it. A friend of mine gave it to me. I've read the HP books, and liked them, but was always a bit unsatisfied. Back in the day, when I was representin' as a 12 year old myself, I read everything by Piers Anthony in sight. And it really ticks me off when people say that J.D. Rowlins, or whatever her name is, is so clever because she comes up with stuff like "The Whomping Willow." Ever read a Xanth novel (there are only like 30 of them at last count)? I think everyone who finds the HP books so clever oughta take a ride on Mr. Gerber's "Buggering Birch." Anyway, the Barry Trotter book is hilarious, and it has a good storyline as well. I read a chapter or two a night before going to bed, and laughed my heiny off every time. The only bummer was that the book had to end. I really liked the characters, particularly Lon Measley. There's something really endearing about the moronic dog-boy. And after reading this book, I can't remember most of the real names of the characters and places in the HP books. I wish that there were more of these suckers coming out. I'd definitely look forward to them more than HP 5, 6, and 7. Hopefully, Mr. Gerber will at least continue to write novels, parody or otherwise. My final piece of advice to all the 12 year olds out there is to try reading something else (like the first two Xanth novels), because there's an awful lot of sci-fi/fantasy literature out there besides HP, and if you got a little perspective, you wouldn't cry foul when someone like Mr. Gerber bumrushed one of your icons.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievably fabulous! Review: Looking for a book that'll make you laugh harder than you have in YEARS? This is the one. Gerber's parody is witty, outrageous, twisted, bizarre...and absolutely fabulous! Whether you're completely enamored by Rowling's Potter books, or if you hated them and lose your lunch whenever the series is mentioned, "Barry Trotter" will blow your mind and is guaranteed to bring on uncontrollable laughing fits. It's extremely important to note, though, that this book is NOT for children. There's adult content (some of which would honestly go right over kids' heads...some of which wouldn't) and many "mature" references. This is for teen and adult audiences-the audiences that are able to pick up and appreciate the nuances of phenomenal parodic writing and the over-the-top hilarity of modern adult-culture references. Everyone from CEOs to high-schoolers will love this (and those aren't arbitrary determiners--both the CEO of my company and my 17-year-old niece read and loved it), so BUY THIS BOOK!

Rating: Summary: Barry Trotter Review: "Barry Trotter" was awful. It was a meanspirited book with dumb jokes (dirty and otherwise). I liked the Harry Potter books, but even if I hadn't, this is an immature and lame book. It is poorly written and includes "potty jokes" that are so common among six year olds. If you're looking for a good laugh, try Bored of the Rings by the Harvard Lampoon.
Rating: Summary: Yuck! Review: I LOVE HARRY POTTER!I'm obbsessed with Harry Potter. I don't make fun of it. I read the first chapter of Barry Trotter and said i'm done. STOP MAKING FUN OF THINGS!Barry is in 11th grade???!!!!?? He smokes pot?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you crazy? What kind of example are you setting?
Rating: Summary: Sick, raunchy,...kinda wiered Review: To the author: Yes, I like Harry Potter to, but I dont go making fun of it...This is basically an issue of MAD magazine in a more book form. From what I have seen, the author pretty much stole most of his ideas from an issue I have once seen of that magazine. This guy is sick.... and, yes, he claims he did keep in mind that kids would also read this piece of "art", but fails to keep perverted jokes out of it. I'd be pretty [angry] if I were J.K. Rowling.... I mean, why would a fan of her work want to make fun of it? Another note: the price on this book is ridiculois, 10 bucks for a soft cover book? And yes, I HAVE read this, so I know what im talking about....
Rating: Summary: Very Funny! Review: This book was the best! I loved it! It was very funny, and kept me laughing. I love the Harry Potter books but still like this one! It does not make fun of Harry Potter at all. It's a must-read-book! Even if you don't like Harry Potter you should stll read it!
Rating: Summary: A great book, but not for small children Review: I've read this book upwards of 12 times and it still never fails to make me laugh. Many chapters are so funny that I can't eat and read at the same time, for fear of choking to death or spitting crumbs all over the page. What keeps me coming back to "Barry Trotter" is the vividness of Mike's imagination: I can still picture Barry's owl with a cigarette clenched in her beak and the hipster centaurs adjusting their berets as they canter into the woods. He's done an amazing job of creating a parody that is as entertaining as it is hilarious.I should mention that some parents might find "Barry Trotter" inappropriate for children. It's a great book, but it is aimed at an older audience. If you feel that "South Park", "The Simpsons" and Mad magazine are not for kids, you may want to wait a few years before getting "Barry Trotter" for your child....
