Rating: Summary: A MUST READ FOR EVERY FAN OF THE SHOW Review: Behind the scenes at Trading Spaces is just that. A never-before-seen glimpse into what really happens during Trading Spaces including a profile of each designer, each carpenter, and Paige Davis, the host. What really went on in Seattle when one of the homeowners left the room in tears during the Reveal? Do Amy and Ty REALLY do all of the construction work? How were the designers chosen? How many ceilings fans does Laurie have in her own home? Why does Amy Wynn go by two names? The answers to these questions and many more are given in this fabulous book. Complete with an episode guide for seasons I-III, it is a must for every Trading Spaces fan. I read it from cover to cover the day I bought it and although I thought for a moment about selling it on eBay, decided I really can't bear to part with it. I love the size, and have to disagree with the reviewer who described this more like a "magazine." It is definitely far from magazine quality. The pages are all of high-quality paper and the cover is a high-gloss quality quality paperback - far thicker than a magazine or even a normal paperback book.Although generally interspersed with decorating tips from the designers, this isn't at all a how-to book. For that, I anxiously await the two Trading Spaced decorating books that are coming out this summer. Suffice to say, I don't see how any fan of the show could ever be disappointed in this book!
Rating: Summary: fun Review: Don't look for any decorating tips here. Instead this book reveals behind the scenes info about the people who make Trading Spaces happen. There's an intro to what the show's about, for newbies and then the rest of the book is spent on the designers, it tells a bit more about them, and what they try to do on the show. There's also an episode guide in the end, for seasons 1,2, and 3. It's a fun glossie and fans of the trading show will probably like it. But a decorating book? Its not. For all you designer wannabes and fans, there are two more books coming out this upcoming August 2003 that'll focus more on decorating, and how to make decorating magic happen at home.
Rating: Summary: A Big Disappointment Review: Unfortunately this book is just "trading" on the popularity of the show. The suggestions are cheesy looking and not anyhing that most people would want to see in their homes. The show is entertaining, but there is no substance or useful ideas in the book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but... Review: Interesting, but not what I thought it would be. It's really a look at the cast, where they're from, how they got started, etc. I'm only a casual viewer, so I wasn't really that engrossed in it. Still, like another reviewer noted, it's interesting and readable. If you're looking for something that'll make you laugh, try reading 'No One's Even Bleeding'.
Rating: Summary: Trading Spaces Behind the Scenes Review: The book is a great extension of the show. Lots of fun to read the bios of each cast member. It's like the People mag of the decorating world. Lots of little tidbits about your favorite (or not so favorite) TV decorators. If you're looking for a "how to" decorating book, try something else but if you're looking for some dish and inside scoop...buy it!
Rating: Summary: What a crew! Review: I love watching Trading Spaces -- especially because the hilarious, creative cast! This book gives each cast member a chapter to really shine! All the designers are covered, plus carpenters Ty and Amy Wynn, and host Paige Davis. There are a lot of facts, funny stories, and personal pictures (Doug Wilson's baby pic is a hoot!) for each cast member. While I wish there were more "tips and tricks" like the cover promises, I'm hopeful that the future books on decorating projects will take care of this. Also, the Episode Guide in the back of book is really cool. It covers EVERY single episode of the show through about halfway through the 3rd season-- plus is tells you when homeowners cry or the designers have a "diva fit". I thought I'd seen all the episodes, but it turns out I missed several in the 1st season that sound really funny.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read Review: I think this book is great. It's interesting to read about the designers' backrounds and where they got their start. I like the synopsis of each episode at the end. I didn't expect this to be a "how-to" book. That type of thing is pretty much explained on the show. I recommend this highly to any "Trading Spaces" fan.
Rating: Summary: I opened the book straight to Doug's section Review: This is excellent light reading material. When I saw it in the store, that was the first I had even heard about the book. After a minute of paging through it, I know I wanted it. I read it while in the checkout and then grabbed it again immediately when I got home, but my family members couldn't wait to get their turns at it. I didn't expect it to be an in-depth how-to book, (I've got enough of those sitting around). The show is about the challenge of doing two rooms in two days with $1,000 each and it's about the personalities of the designers, Paige and the carpenters. It's also about doing some wild designs that sometimes work and sometimes don't. I was glad they included pictures of rooms I liked (like Kia's India room) and ones I didn't (like Hilde's Tiffany room with all the white airbrushed squiggles on blue walls and fabric). I loved learning the backgrounds of the designers and I think I can now at least see the reason behind why they act the way they do sometimes. I didn't find it in the least bit disappointing (ok, I'd like to see what Hilde's home looks like too). I'd recommend it to anyone who is hooked on the show and who enjoys the fun of the show as much as they do the designing.
Rating: Summary: I can't put it down Review: I'm addicted to Trading Spaces. I couldn't wait to get my copy of the book, and I wasn't disappointed. I wanted to know more about every designer on the show. Except Doug. I thought I couldn't stand him, but I thought his photos were great, and I liked him more after reading the story about him. There's more in this book than you can get anywhere else. If you love the show, this is a must-read. It's packed with pictures, decorating tips from the cast, and details about the cast's real lives.
Rating: Summary: More more! Review: Got my copy. Cool. Fun. It answers lots of questions my husband and I have had about the cast and what they're really like. There is so much in the book that I haven't had a chance to read the entire thing yet. I had no idea that Hildi lives in Paris. I didn't know that Frank was really a painter although I could have guessed. The book is crammed with information, and it's fun to read. The behind-the-scenes pics are fun too. There are some decorating tips in the book but I was glad to see the page about coming attractions because I see that two Trading Spaces decorating books will be out soon. Can't wait. Love the show.
