Rating: Summary: Gamblers will not put this book down until finished! Review: This is 5*'s the whole way! Dont let the title fool you--it is not just a story on the guy who got breast implants. It covers all aspects of the gambling life with great zest and flow. I just put my order in to by Koniks latest book. I started reading this at the mailbox and finished it the same day. The only caveat I have is that this book will only interest gamblers--my wife is not a gambler and lost interest quick. If you are a gambler, buy this book, grab a six pack and settle in, you wont put it down.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This is is the kind of book you wish were 500 pages long! Impossible to put down, and written with wonderful style, I look forward to the next big bet or amusing tale Mr. Konik decides to recount.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Review: This is the collection of gambling stories that started it all. I have Mr. Konik's other one Telling Lies and Getting Paid and this one is a little lighter and slightly less intense. Very easy to read. I could have finished it in one sitting but I wanted to strecth it out over a couple of days because the author's writing style is very enjoyable. Big thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: What's the big deal? Review: This was a disappointing book. What Konik writes has been written before in much better fashion by better authors. Who cares whether he got a date with the cocktail waitress at a dog track? Strictly for those gaming novices who haven't read widely on the topic. Try Barney Vinson's "Behind The Tables" work instead.
Rating: Summary: "Telling Lies and Getting Paid" or Man WIth $100,000 Breasts Review: Tough call between the two which is why I recommend getting both. The sequel "Telling Lies" is a little more philosophical and has some bigger words. Man is a bit lighter and funnier. I have both in my collection of gambling books. They're both crucial to understanding the "world of risk and reward" but The Man has photos!
Rating: Summary: A true classic,A pleasure to read Review: True stories of some of the crossroaders,sidewinders,con-men, and hustlers in the gambling world
Rating: Summary: Konik and Scoblete are the two best writers Review: When you want to be entertained by great writing in the gaming field, the two best are Michael Konik and Frank Scoblete. While Konick does not really engage in strategies per se, Scoblete does. He integrates his strategies with outstanding stories of his own experiences in the casinos and the experiences of others. Konik on the other hand tells the "tall" tales of the gambling world and profiles the interesting people and events. he's more of a journalist; Scoblete is more of a first person experiencer, if that's the word. You can't go wrong reading them both. I give their books as presents on holidays. So far no one has complained!
Rating: Summary: An amazing page turner Review: Without a doubt one of the most entertaining books I have ever read, bar none. Even if your appreciation for casino-style gambling is limited, you will be fascinated by these characters and their extraordinary talesI can vouch for that... Incidently, these guys do exist; this makes a strong case for reality being stranger than fiction. Noted magic apparatus distributor Phil Matlin knew Brian Zembic in his 'formative' years, hustling and fleecing... and charming the Montreal yuppy crowd of the 80's. And Steve Forte can, indeed, control the toss of regulation dice... This book is a walk over the Wild Side into a version of reality few of us get to thread. There were parts of the book where I would tell myself 'Hey, I could do this and make it big in Vegas', yet a few pages later, the sentiment would be 'Noooooo! I cannot go there! I would be doomed!'It certainly fascinates and entertains. Highly recommended.
