Summary: The King!
Review: I bow down before Mr. Konik. I read his second book "Telling Lies and Getting Paid" first and Thought, "who is this guy?" Incredible writer. Then I read this one which he wrote first and I'm convinced this guy is one of the best non-fiction writers I've ever seen. He's like George Plimpton, but a lot hipper. I truly laughed and cried. Konik is King.

Summary: Entertaining and Provacative
Review: I consider myself an experienced gambler who has been around the block a few times. I thought the stories in Michael Konik's book were exteremely enetertaining and provocative at the same time, meaning they made me interested and they made me think at the same time. Some of the characters in this book I know personally, and so I know their stories are true, but they coudn't have told their stories as well as this author does. A real good way with words. Anyone who likes gambling stories needs to read this book.

Summary: Very entertaining stories about fascinating characters
Review: I didn't want to like this book, because I'm a gambling writer myself and I was envious of its success before I ever read it. But it was impossible not to like it. Konik writes very well, has selected some fascinating characters and subjects, and provides his readers with both entertainment and education. I think that's a very effective way to write about gambling; I employ both of those elements in my own book, CASINO GAMBLING THE SMART WAY, although my style is different from Konik's and my book is more focused on the education side.

If you like to gamble, I think you too will find it impossible to avoid enjoying Konik's book. Put in a more positive fashion, you will both learn and have fun while reading it!

It's also an easy book to pick up and put down, because it's a collection of essays rather than one story which must be read to conclusion. In today's hectic world, I consider that an added bonus.

Summary: A fascinating mix on the edge of the gambling world
Review: I have been reading Michael Konik's stories in Cigar Aficionado Magazine since the publication's inception which, if I can recall, was at the height of the cigar craze. Even after a brief stint with cigars, I have continued to read the magazine and that is solely because of the Konik Stories. I am pleased to finally see them and more in a book where they can truly be appreciated.

This is his universe where he shows us remarkable characters that would appear to be beyond the comprehension of any other writer. These stories reveal to me that there is that underside where the sordid devise plans to plot, concoct and calculate odds to get that fine edge, the advantage over the casino, the mark and even the once a week risk taker. And some stories are about unbelievable gamblers that will do anything for a risk and, of course, money--the title character, for instance.

The sharks are out there and it seems the only place we can read about them is if Michael Konik tells us.

Summary: Very Strong Non-Fiction
Review: I heard about this book about a dozen times before I got around to buying it. I'm glad I did. This is the best non-fiction book I've read this year. The author, Michael Konik, is a very good journalist. Excellent eye for interesting details. Very funny way with words. Smart. I read this book in two sittings, and my only criticism is that I wish it was longer. Loved it.

Summary: Sure Bet
Review: I heard about this book in a magazine story that mentioned some of the author's gambling exploits, which is one of my favorite subjects. I'm glad I got it. It was entertaining and very informative and sometimes, very funny. (The greyhound track story and the breast story, etc.) A winner.

Summary: The Second Best Book Ever Written About Gamblng
Review: I've read them all and this is almost the best book written on the subject of gambling stories. The BEST is TELLING LIES AND GETTING PAID which came out the year after this one I think. MAN WITH BREASTS is impossible to put down once you start. It's like a slot machine! I've read it 4 times. The characters are like family to me now except you wouldn't want a lot of these characters in yoru family, you know? Awesome book.
