Rating: Summary: Vintage Hairstyles Review: I think the different hairstyles were wonderful in the book. The part I didn't like was the fact you have to flip back and forth when you are holding strands of hair figuring out what to do with them because of the terminology. I think it would have been much more efficient if the book had more step by step details on how to do the styles. It has been discouraging for me to know that achieving some of these do's will take more time than necessary because of the lack of detail in the instructions. I am getting there, with a lot of practice, of course. I do love the idea of a book on how to do a vintage 'do'. For the most part I am thrilled!
Rating: Summary: Technically Perfect Review: I was hoping for more beautiful pictures within the book like the one on the cover, and was disappointed to find that there were only a few. BUT, this book is very precise in description and diagram on how to achieve the perfect vintage '40's coif. What else is nice about this is the way styles are broken down into hair lengths. I am not very skillful at hairstyling, but will give some a try.

Rating: Summary: Doll makers and customizers NEED this book! Review: So often you see really great forties doll costumes for fashion dolls being worn by doll models with hair that just doesn't complete the look. What the artists needed was this book. Hundreds of photographs and diagrams make it easy to create that forties look painlessly. However, it's not just for doll artists. I showed the book to several owners of vintage clothing boutiques during a recent cross-country trip, and they went nuts -- they didn't know they could get all the information they wanted in one modern book, they had been relying on very expensive vintage magazines. The styles are so great, they really translate well into todays' looks, too. After all, hair hasn't changed, just the way it is styled!
Rating: Summary: Directions could be better, but a nice collection of photos Review: This book doesn't offer much that you couldn't discover for yourself by looking through old magazines and photographs of 40s movie stars, but it does offer a comprehensive collection of photos that will help you to choose a style--whether you want glam, farm girl, or working gal. The directions (where given) are kind of sketchy and sometimes confusing...so plan on practicing a lot before you "go public" with your 'do!
Rating: Summary: Romance is back here Review: This book enables the reader to use thier own imagination when they view the various and beutiful styles. The graphic and detailed photos are successful in keeping the reader interested. The best thing I like about this book is that it recreates the romance of the 40's by presenting all these stylish, conservative yet sexy hair do's.
Rating: Summary: Nice hair Review: This is an easy to read little book, that gives the basics of 40s hairstyles. The instructions are easy to understand and follow. I haven't tried any styles yet, but I am eagerly anticipating my first head full of pin curls! My only complaint is that I wish there were more hairstyles, and a few less copy editing errors, but this is a good guide to great hair.
