Rating: Summary: Teaching the reader to make the correct chess plans. Review: Most players pummel one another with little rhyme or reason. A favored piece or pawn calls out and immediately gets pushed or captured. WCS was written for the amateur player in mind. Learn how to make plans for any time of position.

Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST BOOK ON CHESS EVER WRITTEN!!!!! Review: The greatest chess book EVER WRITTEN!!! BUY THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book has changed the way I play chess forever. I used to play planlessly, waiting for some blunder by my opponent. After reading this book, I find myself building up small advantages until they overwhelm my opponent. The coolest thing is often they don't have any idea where they went wrong! This book is well written, well presented, and an excellent value. A modern classic
Rating: Summary: excellent strategy book Review: This book has some amazing examples. Different stratefies are very well classified, and actual games between gradmasters are shown and analyzed. Reading this book really improved my game and the way I think about chess now.
Rating: Summary: Overated book Review: This book provides you with the basics of strategies of chess. However the ideas are very basic and the author doesnt elaborate as much as he should. I would suggest getting the "amateur's mind" by Geremy Silman which has the same ideas and is a more robust book.
Rating: Summary: Overall An Extremely Helpful Book Review: This is my second purchace of the series (the first was his fourth book, Winning Chess Brilliancies) and it is terrific. While his philosophy is in many ways parallel to Nimzowitch (My System is a staple of chess-players), his writing is much clearer. My only complaint- he sometimes seems to tire of the analysis of a move, just stating that something was a bad idea, and not showing why (e.g. "This is a blunder because mate would result." Sometimes it takes me an hour to figure out how best to mate the opponent. He should show me how). These are rare occurances, though. I won't call this a must-have, but from what I've read, it is near the top of the list. Knowledge of chess notation is necessary.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This is the second book I bought in the 'Winning Chess' series, the other one being 'Winning chess Tactics'. Good explanation and examples in his books. Would recommend this for average players who can then move on to 'My System' or 'Chess Paraxis'. I would like to see one completely annotatated (move-by-move , not just saying bad/good move) grandmaster game. Yasser has done a great job on this series. Will be buying 'Openings' and 'Endings' soon.
Rating: Summary: brilliant chess book Review: When I first picked up this book, I thought it was another book on chess strategy. However, on closer examination I found it is indeed a great book. The author builds his system of strategy on the first principles of chess ie,time, space, material and pawn structure. He adds a fifth element which is king safety. Mastery of these principles goes a long way in making a chess master. He has a chapter on preventing enemy counter play, how to use pawns, and a very good chapter on how to attack the king, which is essential in strategy. The information in this book is priceless and in addition will not become outdated. An excellent book and an excellent buy.
