Rating: Summary: Title is Deceiving Review: I bought this book because I liked Best Blackjack by the same author. I did not find it nearly as good. This book gives a good (if a bit hard to follow) overview of how craps is played and a few betting systems that will decrease (but not eliminate) the casino's vig (edge). Despite the suggestion in the title, the betting systems will not help you completely overcome the casino's vig in craps. That is not possible unless you cheat (which I do not recomend). This book does point out the good and bad bets on the casino table and does give a good way to manage your time, money and so you can play longer and lose less (or win more). If you want to win money gambling (or at least have a positive edge) stick with Blackjack (and get Best Blackjack). If you are looking for a way to make a losing game (craps) into a less losing game, buy this book.
Rating: Summary: The True Classic Craps Book Review: I bought this book over ten years ago when it first came out. I have been playing variations of the 5-Count ever since. The followup books, The Captain's Craps Revolution and Forever Craps, have merely added to my awe and appreciation for what Mr. Scoblete has accomplished in the field of craps. This book started it all and I believe that a crapshooter's education begins here. You will learn which bets to make; when and how to make them. You will learn bankroll requirements. Most important, you will learn the 5-Count, the best way to locate hot shooters, or potentially hot shooters. Read this book if you have the least interest in winning at craps. Read all Scoblete's books if you want to become an expert craps player.
Rating: Summary: Finally, This Veteran Learned Something Valuable Review: I've been playing craps for thirty years. I've read about a dozen books in that time but none were all that satisfying. Scoblete's book offers what I consider to be the very first system that can be used to beat the casinos, at least if you add comps into the equation. His description of rhythmic rollers and what actually happens at the tables shows that he is an author who not only knows his way around words but around the casino as well. This book has the ring of truth about it. Having spent thirty years playing this game, I can smell those writers who just write what they have read before, and those writers who really know the score. Scoblete knows the score. Since using his 5-Count method of play, I have lasted twice as long at the tables on the same bankroll, and, inevitably in that time I do catch a hot shooter. I intend to read all his books on craps and review each. I have just ordered "The Captain's Craps Revolution" and "Forever Craps." Yo-Eleven, watch for me!
Rating: Summary: A Decent Guide To Systematic Craps Play Review: I bought this book after having dabbled with some online craps simulations. I already had an understanding of the game, the good bets and the bad, but I did not consistently win. I searched for books describing a more systematic approach and found Frank Scoblete's book highly rated. The book definitely delivers a systematic method of play for those seeking one. I was not satisfied with the thoroughness of his explanation. When you first try the system you will immediately find a few scenarios that come up that will have you scratching your head wondering what the correct play is. I have not played this system in a casino, but the book mentions several scenarios where come odds will be taken off, put back on, etc. Keeping track of this and the constsnt interaction with the dealers sounds like a major pain. The strategies for increasing your bets out and up is good and I cannot recall reading this advice elsewhere. The passages about "rhythmic rollers" almost destoys the credibility of this book. IMHO, this is witchcraft. If the dice hit that studded wall the roll is random, or I don't think the casino would play the game. Overall the 5 count seems like a good approach mainly because it keeps you at the table without money at risk all the time, which is really what the captain was designing it to do. The systems are relatively complex and the writing isn't that great. Unless you are a pretty serious player, you may be more content to just have a drink, play the pass line and take some odds.
Rating: Summary: After Ten Years Playing Scoblete's Way Review: I am actually a head of craps. This book started me on my way and I recommend you read it, then go directly to the Captain's Craps Revolution and then the ultimate masterpiece, Forever Craps. Scoblete revolutionaized the game! That you, Frankie!
Rating: Summary: All Time Classic Review: If any book deserves the title "classic," this one does. It is the first book to show a workable method for beating craps and to address the issue of rhythm rollers. Contrary to one reviewer's opinion, the author does discuss the math of the game accurately, but he also speculates about controlled rolls changing that math. The book, as all of Scoblete's books, is well written and fun to read. Craps players educations begin with this book.
Rating: Summary: poor advice but a good read Review: The doey-don't system has to be among the worst as far as "strategies" in craps books I've seen. His math is rather incorrect when he shows that the doey-don't system has the best potential. He claims that by doing a pass-line and don't pass bet at the same time that the risk is 0. For example, let's say you have $100 chips. Every 36 rolls on the doey-don't system you lose $100. Every 36 rolls on the pass-line by itself you lose $50.91. If you also place don't pass bets you are going to lose another $49.09 every 36 rolls. By betting on both you are just losing twice as fast. He is incorrect in saying the risk is non-existent. There are no bets on the craps table or combinations of bets which are no-risk. Here is a break-down of the real casino edge in both situations: Casino Edge with pass-line bets with full odds 2 X odds: 0.606% 3 X odds: 0.471% 5 X odds: 0.326% 10 X odds: 0.184% 20 X odds: 0.099% Casino Edge with Doey-don't system with full "right" odds 2 X odds: 0.833% 3 X odds: 0.694% 5 X odds: 0.521% 10 X odds: 0.321% 20 X odds: 0.181% Notice that with the doey-don't system with a 20 X odds game, it has about the same edge as normal pass-line betting with 10 X odds. That's because you are essentially doubling your passline bet but your odds bet cannot be doubled. Another thing I don't understand is that if his 5-count system works so well why would you want place don't come bets anyways? If his 5-count works so well there is no reason to make don't come bets at all. If after 5-counts a hot roll is to occur, you would be best to win the money from both the odds AND the passline/come. You are just throwing money that a hot roll would have made you. Not to mention you won't get any comps. As far as pushing the casino heres what will really happen: If it's a triple odds game and you want to push 5 X onto a number and you lose you will lose 5 X your passline bet. If you win you may only win the correct payout for 3 X your passline bet. As far as I'm concerned this book gets 5 stars because I was able to read it from cover to cover, but as far as advice I wouldn't look for it here.
Rating: Summary: Took Me into the Black Review: This book has helped me go from a losing craps player to a winning craps player. The secret is who you bet on. If you bet on every shooter, you are dead. If you use the five count, you will only bet those shooter who actually have a chance for a good roll. It works. I've been using this method for several months and it works.
Rating: Summary: Maximize Your Winning Potential Review: Simply put, this book explains a method of play that allows you to have the minimum amount of money at risk during a bad roll and have the maximum amount during a hot roll. By using his system during a recent trip to Biloxi I was able to play even with the house for 6 HOURS at a $10 table. This of course allowed me to get some COMPS from the casino. By explaining the odds of every bet on the table, you'll quickly discover that betting "crazy crapper" bets may win in the short run, but in the long run you'll lose, BIG. If you're serious about learning how to beat the craps out of the casinos, then I highly suggest that you buy this book
Rating: Summary: After 57 Two and Three Day Trips My Results Are Review: EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD! I have won over five figures betting no more than $120 per decision. I won on 38 trips and lost on the rest. My experience tells me this is a winner. I also loved reading the book. The author is a very good writer!
