Summary: Comes up short
Review: It's amazing how many people think that betting with the 5-count presented inside will win you money in the long term. In the VERY LONG TERM, you will always lose at craps. Anyone that is ahead at craps after using the strategy is just experiencing that lucky standard deviation. Anyone that has computer statistics to show that it is a winning system has a poor random number generator. The book spells out, in plain English, that every bet on the table is a losing bet. The Captain's methods are simply a way to stay at the table without risking much money and minimizing your loses.

But even though he does state this clearly in one chapter, he then goes on to talk about how you will "beat the house" (once per paragraph) by using his methods. Not so; the only chance you have of "beating" the house is if what they comp you is worth more than the money you are guaranteed to lose while you're playing.

To the reviewer that wonders why there is no calculation of returns using this strategy: your expected returns will be negative. If he prints that, people might not recommend this book to their friends, and he will lose money.

Save your money, or buy a nice introductory book that explains etiquette and the basic fundamentals of the game from a mathematical base.

Summary: The Book That Keeps On GIVING
Review: I read this book several years ago an I decided to read it again before reading Frank Scoblete's new book Forever Craps: The Five Step Advantage Play Method. As I found on my first reading, Beat the Craps is a superior book for craps players as it offers a workable method of cutting down on the number of bad shooters that players must face. It also helps to position youself for those few good shooters that come up every now and then. The book gives a general overview o craps for the novice and then goes into Scoblete's methods of play based on The Captain, a famous Atlantic City craps player. It is very worthwhile reading. I then read Scoblete's new book which is just a masterpiece. He really expands on the information in Beat the Craps based on over 10 years of play with the 5-Count method of play. Forever Craps is a must read and if you have never read any Scoblete I recommend you read his books in this order: Beat the Craps, The Captain's Craps Revolution (this expands on the information in Beat the Craps), and Forever Craps which really does offer an "advantage play" system as far as I'm concerned.

Summary: 5-Count System did cut my losses
Review: Read this book and put the system to use 2 days later in Laughlin, NV. Although, I didn't play exactly to the discipline explained (playing both the pass and don't pass at the same time)I did wait in most cases for a shooter to roll 5 times before I placed a bet. For the first time in many trips gambling, I came out ahead on my craps bets. Good book, but would have liked to have read more about modified systems using the 5-count and not as much about the Captain and his crew.

Summary: I Have Won $225,000 in Six Years with This
Review: No system of craps play can be judged on just a few trips tothe casino as luck, good or bad, will determine short-range results. Ihave given this 5 count a six year test of bi-monthly play. I estimatethat I have spent some 2,000 hours playing this system in the casinos of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. I use the high roller system almost exactly as described in the book with just a minor variation or two of my own. I have been comped for everything in addition to winning almost a quarter of a million dollars. Does it work? I say yes. Is it perfect? No. But the 5 count has allowed me to be at tables without losing my money and when the hot rolls come, and they don't ALWAYS come, I make up whatever small losses I have and I'm in the black. I won't make a living doing this but it sure beats losing. I want to publically thank Mr. Scoblete for writing this book and his other book The Captain's Craps Revolution because they have made craps a positive experience for me!

Summary: yet another reader
Review: I have read many of Frank's books over the years, and have come to trust his ideas and judgement. I do however try to approach each book I read (at least gambling books) without a bias so I may recognize any falacies without prejudice. I highly recommend this book because the ideas in it are sound in logic and are based on the fact that the ONLY way to beat craps is through physics. The 5-count is based on the ideas that certain rollers might consciously or not be able to influence the dice. While this is not likely for most people, it is still a sound idea, based in physics. NOt many people can throw a hundred mile an hour fast ball, but don't say it can't be done. That's what irritates me about the reviewers who say that the system has no basis in mathematics. IT DOES. The math changes as the physical aspects of the game are altered. I think it time though that I point out that I am mainly writing this reviw because I am so annoyed with the other reviewers saying the book can't be right because of the math. Roulette has been beaten for the same reason craps can be beaten: THE ALTERATION OF THE PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE GAME! So now that I've ranted, I'll go. And like Frank says in the book, even if you don't win, the worst that can happen using the system, is to cut your losses with the "Doey-Don't" and minimize your money at risk while getting credited with more playing time.

Summary: I Just Got the Best Present!
Review: My wife just gave me what I really wanted, a complete set of Frank Scoblete's books and tapes on craps. While I have read and reread all of them several times, my copies have gotten beaten up. Now I have a pristine collection: Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos, Frank's first book, introduces the Captain and his marvelous methods of play such as the 5-Count, The Captain's Craps Revolution look more indepth at the 5-Count and variations in betting systems, then Forever Craps creates the ultimate method of play by utilizing 5 basic concepts to actually get the edge at the game.

In addition to these, my wife gave me Sharpshooter Craps, Scoblete's audiotape, and Guerrilla Gambling, the best overall book on the casino games.

My wife also ordered me The Craps Underground, Scoblete's new hardcover book, but that has not yet been released.

I love the man's writing and I recommend him to anyone with the least interest in craps or casino gambling. His books run the gamut from craps to blackjack to even slots and they are all just so well written and instructive and fun to read.

Summary: This is THE Classic Craps Book
Review: The Captain, the Arm, the Crew, the 5-Count, Rhythmic Rollers, the Supersystem, the Low Roller System, the High Roller System -- this is the book! I have now read it three times, once when it first came out in 1991 and once n 1996 and now this week. It is the CLASSIC of the genre and any craps player worth his salt will agree and all craps player must read this book to appreciate the break with traditional craps theory that Scoblete and the Captain did in this book.

Summary: An Intelligent Approach and a Fun Book
Review: This book works on many levels. The advice for playing is first rate but the book also is a lot of fun to read. Frank Scoblete introduces the famous Captain in this book and if you haven't read about him, you owe yourself a favor. Bottom line is that this is an A+ book for craps players.

Summary: This was first step in learning process
Review: I read this book a long time ago. It completely changed my view of the game of craps. I have successfully used the 5-Count for over a dozen years now. But this was only the first step in my education. I then took the Golden Touch dice control course with Frank Scoblete and Dominator and I learned how to affect the outcome of my rolls. Coupled with the 5-Count, controlled shooting is the way to go. This book talked about rhythmic rolling and it opened my eyes. Golden Touch Craps has made me see even clearer. I recommend you read this book and Scoblete's other two craps books, The Captain's Craps Revolution and Forever Craps: The Five Step Advantage Play Method, which is the textbook for The Golden Touch Craps dice control course that I took.
