Summary: Fantastic look into how the best movie of 1998 came to be!
Review: This was a great look at how two unknowns came up with the best screenplay of the year. Great for people to read and see how scenes were developed and changed and for people who are interested in writing their own screenplay. Matt and Ben Rock!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Brilliant.
Review: To be honest, this is one of the best things I've read in my life. It's amazing. I've read this screenplay at least eight times, and every time it's gotten better. I'm writing my own screenplay right now, and I have major respect for Matt and Ben. They're wonderful writers, and I hope they can find the time to write another movie. If my screenplay could ever be half as good as theirs, I'd be extremely happy. I think everyone should read this book. It's simply wonderful.

Summary: One of the best screenplays of the 90's
Review: What Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did with their captivating story is write one of the best screenplays of the decade. Incedibly written for two young guys, the story and movie are excellent companions. The inner workings of Will are the focal point of the story and kept me interested all the way through

Summary: Good Teamwork Between Friends
Review: When pals Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote Good Will Hunting, they had little idea the film would even get made, let alone that they would take home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for their work. Directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Robin Williams, this is a story about meeting one's potential.

Will Hunting is a genius. But he also has to sort a few things out about his life, and how he relates to others, before he can truly challange himself. When he meets therapist Sean MaGuire, Will begins to explore those issues, holding him back from having a good life. Who knew that two "pretty boy" actors from tintsletown could write something so deep? The script took everyone by surprise, with it's look at flawed, human characters in a very realistic way. Most films made today have at least one "perfect" sounding charater. Here, all of the characters have both strengths and weaknesses. These are just working class folks trying to get by. Damon and Affleck's humble Boston beginnings serve the script and the film very well.

Director Van Sant provides an introduction that talks about the history of this well written screenplay and the final film. The story is written in typical script fashion, complete with limited stage direction, and setting descriptions. The book is illustrated with dozens of black and white photos from the film. The 178 page book is recommended and should be on any person's bookshelf

Summary: Where's the Beef?
Review: Why, you ask, would anyone rate this screenplay a mere 3? I mean, there's that searing NSA monologue...that alone is worth a 10! But wait! In spite of a lengthy quotation from that monolog in Amazon.com's review (soon to be removed, I hope), NONE of that monolog is included in the book being sold here! Certainly I expect there to be differences between a screenplay and what appears on the screen; however, film-only material should not be included in a review of a published screenplay without clearly stating that the material appears only in the film version.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Thank god for low budget
Review: You know, I've seen a lot of movies and read alot of screenplays and I've got to say; The more a movie costs, the more big action is it, the fewer words...and on and on until all thats left is an explosion or two and a sex scene. This story is different, it's exceptional. It was put together brilliantly and I must say, you're doing yourself a disservice by not reading this screenplay and viewing this movie. There's reason it won.
