Summary: Great Buy
Review: I have been playing the guitar for a little over two years. I've purchased various books over the past few years in an unsuccessful attempt to learn basic music theory, scales, and modes. When I first skimmed through Scott Miller's book, my initial reaction was that it would be very difficult to learn the concepts therein because of my past experience with other authors, the difficulty of the material, and the short time I've been playing the guitar. However, "Getting Into Jazz Fusion Guitar" by Scott Miller has been the best guitar book purchase I have ever made. Scott is a terrific teacher and has a remarkable gift for presenting concepts in a clear and simple fashion. It is obvious that he has put a lot of effort into finding the best way to present the material in order to make it easy to understand for guitar players of varying skill levels. This is a well-researched book and an accumulation of lessons learned over his 18 years of guitar playing. The material he covers has helped me to vastly improve my guitar skills and understanding of music theory. This book is a must for any guitarist thirsting for a blast of fresh squeezed jazz with a twist of fusion!

Summary: They don't come any better than this!!!
Review: I have recently purchased "Getting Into Jazz Fusion Guitar" by Scott Miller and let me say that this book is something EVERY guitarist needs. I've been playing guitar and have been teaching myself for three and a half years. When I realized that I hadn't really got too far I started looking for a guitar teacher. I found Scott and started takeing lessons from him. He told me about his book and I figured if his book was as good as his teaching skills I'd be set. I had purchased three other books before Mr. Millers and they really didn't get me anywhere. After buying this one things started to fall into place. I've been studying for quite some time on what makes a chord a chord, what an interval is, about keys, perfects, diminisheds, and augmented notes. This book and Scott explain it all. This book is a basic necesity for any guitarist! I have read others reviews and to say that Scott dosen't know what he is talking about is pretty stupid. This book is awesome, I would recomend it to anyone trying to learn guitar. And if you live out in Utah and are looking for a guitar teacher I would recomen Scott. He is great and will answer any question you have about playing the guitar.

Summary: Impressive
Review: I have spent the last two months studying the concepts in this book. The concepts clearly outlined in this book are often misunderstood, yet Scott Miller carefully explains them in a precise straight-forward approach. I am a better guitar player because of his efforts. The breakdown of intervals, scales, modes and other key fundementals are priceless. In contrast to other books, the study of this book was a short cut to learning Jazz Fusion.

Summary: The best book on scales and modes in jazz!
Review: I learned more from this book in one afternoon than I was able to learn in two years from my guitar teacher! This book has given me answers to questions I've had for years. One of the best books in 2002, and one of the best books on jazz scales!

Summary: Guitar Mastery
Review: I learned to play classical guitar as a kid, so I thought I knew a few things. After using Mr. Miller's book a short time, I found out just how few those things were. This reference is just the thing for a player who wants to know how music and the guitar work. The book will give players a deep knowledge of the fingerboard, and how it is put together. The information is presented in logical order a step at a time, each step building on the last, so that even musical dunces like myself can understand it. I always thought the guitar was a fantastic instrument, this book has shown me just how cool it is. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to really know and play the guitar, jazz style or any other.

Summary: We took State
Review: I picked up my first guitar in July of 2000. I love playing Jazz now but it was a struggle at first. This book helped me. It is my second year as the guitarist for my schools Jazz band. Last year we won our state competition. I never could have learned so quickly without the help of Scott Miller's Jazz Fusion book.

Summary: Finally!
Review: I recently purchased this book and felt it is of such great quality that I'm using it exclusively with all of my students in my advanced classes at our music conservatory here in Boston. The first section reviews theory fundamentals after which all of the modes are introduced and discussed properly. Section three gives slash chord modal applications for soloing. In the appendix, every single major, melodic, harmonic, diminished and whole tone scale is given in great fingering diagrams. Simply wonderful. And lastly, I couldn't help but notice two "not so great reviews" from alleged guitarists. I truly believe it was the same guy twice because of the same incorrect grammar and poorly written reviews. And secondly, where are their books? I'm sure these guys (or, this "guy") are simply jealous and are trying to rain on someones parade. Shame on him. This book is indeed great. Mel Bay dosen't just sign anybody.

Summary: inspiring!
Review: i've been playing for nearly thirty years, and i can say this book has helped me a great deal. i've forever been confused about the more exotic scales and modes-until now. what i especially liked was the discussion on phrygian chord types-the sus4b9 chord. i had never heard of this before! in essence i received a solid understanding of theory, scales and modes, drop two and drop three voicings, etc. the section on the diminished scales for me was one of my favorites. mr. miller deserves a great big "thank you" from guitarists across the globe. job well done!

Summary: First Hand Experience...
Review: If you want to become a complete guitarist this is the book for you. I have been learning from this book since it was released almost a year ago. It took me from campfire to excellence. I was repeating the same cheesy rock licks over and over not understanding what I was really playing. Scott's book walks you through the theory in a easy systematic process with practical applications. With that knowledge you can be great in any medium of music you are pursuing. I was not paid to write this review but when I read the negative reviews I figured somebody better give some first hand experience about what this book is really about.
