Summary: As entertaining as the film itself!
Review: This "behind-the-scenes" book is fantastic! As an avid fan of the miniseries (I own the video, and have watched it 7 times!), as well as the book, I thought I knew all there was to know about Pride and Prejudice. I learned the error of my thinking when I bought this book. The amount of information included in this book is invaluable. From background on the costume design to words from the composer and choreographer to a very interesting interview with Colin Firth (Darcy in the film), this book covered everything I could possibly wish to know, and more. A feature I found especially fascinating was a diary of an entire day of the filming of the miniseries - no small feat, from how the diary reads! The movie stills are as gorgeous as the action film itself, and the candid photos were hilarious! I also liked how quotations from Austen's novel were included in sidebars with stills from the film to enhance the understanding of a particular area of technical work. This "making of" book is a treasure in and of itself, and a wonderful companion to the stunning miniseries.

Summary: Lovely photos and good information.
Review: This book is a lovely addition to the BBC mini-series.

It has pages of glossy photos and information about the pre-production and casting. The casting in particular is my favourite as it has photos of the actors before the hair and make-up changes.

The only thing I was disappointed at was the lack of interviews etc with the cast. There are a few smaller interviews, but I would have liked to see a lot more.

Summary: A must have for P&P fans
Review: This book is a must-have for serious Pride and Prejudice fans. It's loaded with beautiful color photos. There are pictures of the actors on the set, the English countryside where the miniseries was set, and scenes taken from the miniseries. The book gives behind the scenes information on how several of the actors were chosen for their roles and how the locations were chosen. I especially like the publicity photos of the actors as they look when not in their costumes. Some are barely recognizable! It's a great book to have if you love the miniseries as I do.

Summary: For The Obsessed P&P Fan
Review: This book is truly for the person who cannot get enough information and like me have to know know every possible bit of information about P&P. How was it made? who did the casting? I promise you will have a glimpse into the inner workings of how a production of this size is layer by layer built upon. I found it very interesting. If you love detail this is the book for you.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: This book was truly an excellent behind the scenes look for any and all lovers of this great film! The sections were quite thorough, wonderful pictures, great anecdotes and an amazing in-depth interview with Colin Firth!!!!!!! I would recommend this book to people interested in the stars of the movie, a look at the movie industry, history buffs or just people who adore the movie.

Summary: If you loved the movie, you'll want this book!
Review: This is a beautiful book, crammed full of interesting information. I loved reading the interviews with the cast members. I never really thought about how much work and attention to detail that the people "behind-the-scenes" went through to make such a production happen. It was especially fun to see the actors out of their 'Pride and Prejudice' make-up; some of them looking entirely different than the character they portrayed. The sections on how many of the people responsible for making this mini-series so wonderful [director, writer, producer, etc.] was enlightening. How they 'saw' what they wanted and then made it happen. The whole book was delightful and I'd highly recommend it.

Summary: If you liked the movie....
Review: This is a great addition to the movie. I am in love with Colin Firth and loved the interview with him in the book. There are neat pictures in it and I liked seeing the actors and actresses at work behind the scenes. It is great.

Summary: What can I say that has not been said?
Review: This is a slim little volume, and you might be slightly disappointed when it arrives. But it is packed with information (in small type) and with fascinating pictures and snippets of information. Want to know how the actors and actresses were chosen and what problems they had with Regency English? This is the book. Want to know how the costume designers found the materials to make those lovely dresses, and where they got their inspiration? Again, this is the book. Want to know how to make a Regency costume? Sorry, this book cannot help. But you can get pointers by reading the pages on costume design.

If you are a fan of Colin Firth and/or Jennifer Ehle, or simply love the BBC-A&E production of Pride and Prejudice (1995), you should obtain this book. Just reading this book once gives you so much information about the series, and a better understanding of how this production came about. Of course, you might want to keep the book instead of passing it on to a friend (sorry, Candace!). My only regrets are a) that I did not order this book earlier, and b) that I did not order two copies of this book while Amazon was having its free shipping deal. Candace will get her copy later.
