Rating: Summary: This is the way I like to play poker Review: This is not a book for "serious" poker players who are in it for the money. This is a book for those who love to play low stakes poker with their buddies for fun. Fun, get it? This is a hilarious book with a lot of great games. It will always be remembered among my poker pals as the book that introduced us to the grin-inducing game of "Do Ya."

Rating: Summary: The Bible of Home Poker Variations Review: This is the single best book for learning crazy/wildcard poker
variations. It's only competition is half of AD Livingston's book
"Poker Strategy" and surfing the internet for "home poker". I
recommend this book so you can have it handy while playing.
The author describes dozens of variations and shows exactly how to
deal each of them; most include a sample hand. There is also advice on
hosting home games. Nearly no tactical or stategic advice is given.
This is for people who like to play poker for nickels, dimes, and
quarters with friends and family. If you want to learn how to win
poker at a casino or online, this is not the right book. If you want
to have a blast of fun at the beach house or kitchen table with a deck
of cards, this book is a must.
It is well written and fun to read.
Rating: Summary: Very Enjoyable Book¿Now Get To Playin!!! Review: This was a very Enjoyable Book. It provided important and useful concepts about the game of Poker. I learned new concepts, which identified some leaks in my game. Leaks in your game can come from anywhere!!! Leaks can originate from lack of aggression, overcalling raises, misreading opponents and any other number of ways. So this book helps. Many people look at poker the wrong way. They think to win they need to do all of this super fancy plays and mindblowing stunts. Well folks...there are not that many options in poker...you fold, call or raise. So its really hard to do thinks that will just fool your opponents all the time. To win at poker it is mostly limiting your mistakes and getting all that you can from winning hands and minimizing losses on losing hands...that's it Ive been playing for about 5 years now and love the game. Ive read many poker books and found this one to be very good. So I would suggest you buy this book and maybe a couple others and get to playing. There's really no excuse anymore - since anyone can access the internet. If you are a new poker player and would like to start playing poker online at www.partypoker.com - make sure you use the bonus code: "AMAZON25" and you will receive $25 free on your first purchase at www.PartyPoker.com. You can also use the Bonus Code "AMAZON100" and you will receive a 20% bonus up to $100! If you already play at PartyPoker, you can also play at www.Pokerroom.com. Use the promotion code "100BONUS" and you will receive 20% up to $100.
Rating: Summary: Horrible... Review: We bought this to keep around to settle our minor disputes over rules, and for most of the game information I guess it's not too bad. I mainly got it because I thought it was an "official" handbook, which it is anything but. But I would highly recommend that you don't waste your money on this one. Spend the extra cash and get something a little better. If you want to play poker that is, because what this guy talks about is NOT poker. Any game that doesn't involve 600 wild cards is, in his words, "boring."
Plus, if you play cards like he says in his scenarios you might get the crap beat out of you. Almost all of the dialogue involves string betting...and a lot of the other "etiquette" rules are also a bit off. So if you want to know some of the basics and how to play improperly...go ahead and get this one.
Rating: Summary: This a condescending book of politics, not poker. Review: While I appreciate the author's concern for the public's interest in learning how to play poker, Wolpin writes the book as assuming everyone is a moron. Maybe he is simply oversimplifying for our benefit, but I don't think so. I found the book to be extremely condescending and daunting which leads me to believe that he actually thinks of his readers as idiots. Additionally, the title of the book should read "According to Wolpin," NOT "According to Hoyle." Wolpin writes as if him and his poker buddies are the best players to ever grace a poker table. Ostensibly, the only rules and variations of games are those placed in his book. Any other game or its variation is not worthy of being mentioned. The book is also inconsistent. Some chapters focus on the underlying adage of "if it's too hot stay out of the kitchen," such is the nature of poker. Yet in other chapters, Wolpin insists that this practice or that practice of poker playing is too cruel or unfair. But I thought such was the nature of poker. The problem is that Wolpin should not even be giving us his take unless he is a professional which he is not. I was looking for a simple instructional book, instead I got a Poker book of Politics, which actually angered me to read. The only reason I gave this book a 2 star rating in lieu of a one star rating is that Wolpin did describe the games, that were good enough to be included in his book, with a decent explanation. Yet I wonder if that even warranted such a high mark when I could have gone to any number of other books and receive the same information.
