Rating: Summary: It's a touching kaelidoscope of feelings, weaved by life. Review: I read the book, expecting just another boring journey through yet another life. But as i ate up the chapters,my heart was seared with many emotions.I felt as i was walking beside Mr.McCourt, through his tribulations and trials. His every sentence etched scenes of hardship and tremours of agony, inspiring courage to the reader by his amazing account of inhuman endurance. If I could,I'd like to thank Mr.McCourt for his book, for which I could see more, making my world consolidate a little more humanly.ISN'T THIS A WONDERFUL BOOK...? "T'is."
Rating: Summary: One of the best, saddest books I've ever read. Review: Listening to this book, I found myself crying on a regular basis. It makes one appreciate what one has. I thought my childhood was bad, but it opened my eyes. Listening to it by the author added 5 more stars.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! Review: I could not put this book down once I started it, but once I was starting to get to the end, I did not want it to end. I loved reading about Frankie's childhood. McCourt is such a great writer.
Rating: Summary: McCourt let us down and left us hanging Review: I was totally engrossed with this book until Frankie began hauling coal. The characters were alive on the pages. I could visualize the squalor, smell the stench, sense the hopelessness. The bittersweet humor tugged at my heartstrings. I was telling all my friends and family to read this book. Then suddenly Frankie reaches puberty, boinks the American tart, and reaches America. What happened?? Deadline? Sequel offer? Movie deal? C'mon, Mr. McCourt, it is obvious you can do better.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly good book!!! Review: A teacher of mine from college recommended this novel to me and I was quite sceptical as to whether I would like it or not. When I began to read it I discovered that it is a wonderful book and I could not put it down. I read this book within two days during my summer holiday this year and greatly annoyed all of my friends who wanted to partake in more active ventures. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a stimulating read which is also emotional and heartfelt.
Rating: Summary: Keep Writing Frank McCourt Review: Great Literature. It was really direct with a child's point of view. The end took away from the book a little but it was still good! I'm 13 years old.
Rating: Summary: Compelling and hart-breaking Review: This book was a wonderfully written memoir. I truly enjoyed reading about Frank's life. I could NOT put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen.
Rating: Summary: Right up there with "The Grapes of Wrath" Review: I absolutely love this book. It picks you up and sets you back down in a whole different place and time. It makes you grateful that you are lucky enough to be in the US in the '90's.
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST books I've ever read!! Review: This was one of the most moving books I have ever read. McCourt's account of his impoverished childhood should be a motivation to everyone. To all those who did not like the book, I think you are ignorant fools and maybe you should go back to the children's section!
Rating: Summary: A powerful tale of a miserable life. Review: I read one review in which the reader said it flat out stunk. I ask why, because it was a tale of misery or because you actually thought it was bad? This was a wonderfully written book about the life of an Irish Catholic boy. If you thought it stunk simply because it's true, than you must not know a marvelous read when you see one. Another reviewer said the sexual exploit at the end lost them. This was a story of his life and Frank McCourt can't simply leave instances of his life out because it may offend.
