Rating: Summary: This is the best fiddle method book available! Review: Brian Wicklund's American Fiddle Method is an idea whose time has come. It's well organized, correctly paced, and most importantly, it teaches the real stuff.
Rating: Summary: Good Starter book Review: Having just starting playing the fiddle again after a 25 year layoff, I have found this book a great learning tool. You will need a basic understanding of how to play and the abilty to read music. The songs are chorded which allows other insturments to play along such as a guitar or Mandolin. Not to mention the CD that comes with the book allowing you to work on timing and intonation. This book is a great companion book for players who are fimilar with at least first postion scales and fingerings.
Rating: Summary: Good starter book. Review: I am just learning to play fiddle. I already know how to read music and play a little trumpet, french horn, piano and guitar. But fiddle is new to me and this book is a terrific beginner book. I really enjoy the cd play along, it makes it much more fun to feel like you are having a jam session. I don't have other musician's around to play with so I really like the cd. The book is easy to follow, and has served me well as my teacher, since there are also no fiddle teachers where I live. I would definitely recommend this book. I am looking for more book/cd combos like this one so that I can continue to improve my fiddling.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I like the combination of ear-training and sight-reading. This method combines all of the fundamentals of fiddling with a dose of humor.
Rating: Summary: Great Method - Great Fun Review: I studied classical violin many years ago and never played fiddle tunes. After picking up the violin again recently I found and bought both volumes of this fiddle method and am truly enjoying learning a tune every few days. The songs are graded from easy to difficult, with a good mix of tempo and keys. This is a wonderful, fun method. The CD is an excellent learning tool - listen and play along!
Rating: Summary: I would definitely recommend this book. Review: The songs are well graded and appropriate for beginners, the illustrations are helpful and fun, and the recording that accompanies the book is excellent.
