Rating: Summary: BUFFETT ROCKS WITH HIS NEW BOOK Review: "A PIRATE LOOKS AT 50" is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I am only about 1/4 of the way through the book, but it is really interesting me. This book is a must read for all parrot heads. This book is a parrot head paradise written by the king parrot head himself.
Rating: Summary: Jimmy, take me with you next trip...Please! Review: Bubba has never let me down. Not musically and definately not literally, and this book is no exception. Just like his music it lets you close your eyes and wish you were there listening to him play his six- string. Love the music, Love the Book, Love the man. A Must have for PH'ers everywhere!
Rating: Summary: This is a great book! Review: I am only about 50 pages into the book, but what I have read is brilliant. BUFFET IS GREAT. I love the book becuase it tells the real story of his life from the guy who lived it. This is one of the greatest books I have ever decided to read. I can't wait to finish this book. PARROT HEADS must read this book!
Rating: Summary: Super great summer reading for everyone!! Review: My brother gave me this book because he knows I love Jimmy's music and I love to read memoirs. This is a real winner. He reveals much of himself and that makes a book "come to life" in my view. I have never before desired to visit the tropics, but now, maybe one day......
Rating: Summary: Jimmy should stick to writing songs Review: As a long-time fan of Jimmy Buffet's songs I hoped that this read would provide entertainment and enlightenment regarding his sources of material as well as some idea of what to look for in the future. I was sorely disappointed. While there are a few humorous situations, there's a lot more of Buffet talking about just how much fun he is and how he has never grown up---as if he's trying to convince himself. He goes into excrutiating detail on matters I considered to be drivel and is given to high melodrama in many instances ( I still cannot figure out what was so terrifying about Barranquilla). The book rambles and, while an easy read, I had difficulty staying interested in it. As with most autobiographies, this one is a lot of self-love by the author, and after a while I got a bit tired of Buffet acting as if he were the only guy to have ever grown up near the water and to have loved a beach. His manner of travelling ( "handlers" meet him in most every port) is that of the superstar and is actually pretty boring. There is a tremendous amount of name-dropping , of both people and products. He tries hard to be convince himself that he is still a kid, has had a ball in life, and is really enjoying this trip ( which seems kind of pointless as he wanders around in his plane missing a lot of ports because there's supposedly no time though he rambles on about his gypsy lifestyle). All in all, I would have expected something better from a guy who has the ability to write such great lyrics.
Rating: Summary: An easy-going read about an easy-going famous guy Review: I am only a quarter through this book and I want to move to the Keys, buy a Boat-plane and learn to play the guitar! What an inspiration for the average person to take control of their life and LIVE it rather than existing. Jimmy would be a great role model for anyone who wants some spark and adventure in their life - but still keeps one foot on the ground for stability. A real account of a real good life force from a real great guy....
Rating: Summary: A VERY good book! Review: This book is of course a must read for all of us Parrotheads. What I really like is the "real guy" Bubba truly is. A key portion of the book for me was Jimmy discussing his father's illness late in his life and how it affected him. If that chapter doesn't tug at your heart, you've got a hole in you soul.
Rating: Summary: deals with Buffett's flying and knowledge of geography n Review: I have listened to Buffett's music since it was brand new. It was and is great. His writing is horrid. Deals with everything about airplane flying, shopping for airplanes and geography. The only good chapters are few dealing with what made him great.....his music. Buffett is very impressed with Buffett and seems to find himself very interesting. The title in no way reflects what you find in the book. If you read the back of the jacket, you have read all he has to say. There is little reflection of his turning 50. I am 54 and I am not very interesting material for a book. If I had made 30 albums, I think I could have told a lot about the music and the events around it. Frankly I got sleepy reading about his island hopping. Still not sure what that has to do with turning 50. In short a very dull book; I think I will go and pull my CDs out and play them!
Rating: Summary: He's the "real deal" Review: I loved reading this book! It was a validation of almost every Buffett song that I thought I had "read" more into that was actually there. I now realize that Jimmy is the "real deal". He entertained me with both his stories and observations of the world....both home and abroad. Take the trip with Jimmy whether your a Parrot Head or just an aging baby boomer and you will enjoy the ride.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, rambling, and fun Review: I own no Jimmy Buffett music, but all three of his books. I found this to be less entertaining than his previous two, which I loved, but that is primarily because it's true. Fiction is more fun than real life! But Buffett here provides great summer escapist reading, especially for those of us who work too hard. Jimmy reminds us to take the time to have some fun. He and I have different perspectives on life, but he is a greatly appreciated incentive to relax and enjoy the ride....
