Rating: Summary: A fellow Pascagoulan finds his memories quite nostalgic. Review: Having grown up in Pascagoula, Mississippi and gone to U. of Southern Mississippi a few years after Jimmy, I relate to his stories of the Coast in the 60's and 70's. I sure as hell wish I could relate a little more with his trip to the Carribean with his whole crew, including friends, nannies and aircraft crew. But ya know what? I would do the exact same thing if I was a star.
Rating: Summary: Satisfies and excites the wandering soul in all of us! Review: To read of the extraordinary birthday gift Jimmy provides for his family, friends and himself in this extraordinary tale of tropical travels is simply unforgettable! It made me want to pack it all in and go find my own private island. For anyone who has ever entertained thoughts of touring all those exotic spots in the Carribbean, this book will put you there, and with anecdotes told as only Jimmy can tell them! So, for an inexpensive getaway, read the book and take a tropical vacation.
Rating: Summary: Wonder why we ever go home Review: After my first visit to "the tropics" (Bonaire, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Key West, Grand Bahama, etc.) and my first Jimmy Buffett concert six years ago - I have been trying to re-enter "the real world". I needed to "settle down", pay my bills on time and receive an allotted amount of sleep, rest and respectibility. I needed to prepare for "my future" and to "act my age" (35). I almost arrived to this particular state of mind about two months ago. I cleaned the house and watered the plants in an orderly fashion. But(t), last week, I picked up Buffett's new book "A Pirate Looks At Fifty" and began to read. I have since digressed to the days that my parents DIDN'T warned me about. Jimmy once again reminded me that "Today's The Day" and I had best be gettin' busy with tha FUN!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book, well worth the wait. Review: I think the story was well written and very interesting. I am a huge Jimmy Buffett fan and have been impatiently waiting for a book like this.
Rating: Summary: Flyboy-Poet Review: I found Jimmey's book an inspiration to all of us who have lost the child within. This is not a mere chronology of a man who is love with himself (as some of the reviews have intimated) - no....this is a soul searching and self realization that I'm sure will touch many who allow it in. Written with a great sense of humor and a zest for living life to the fullest, Jimmy unveils for us all, the very core of the man behind the songs -the man whose only fear seems to be time and the quality of how one spends that time. Read this book and fly with Jimmy. Soar with him through the Carribean and lose yourself in a journey that we all, in some way, may take in our most desired dreams.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing, just an advertisement for his CDs,concerts,et Review: I found this book to be disappointing. Jimmy serves up the same old stuff, barely warmed over. His near constant references to his songs, concerts and earlier books serve as thinly disguised advertisements for those other products. I wish Jimmy would become a little more original.
Rating: Summary: Fun, light summer reading. Fifty looks pretty good! Review: Jimmy weaves a fun story that is lighthearted with a dose of history included for free. You travel with him and his family throughout different Caribean locales. You learn about what is important to him and what pisses him off. The summary of his life in 400 words is great. It shows we shouldn't take this time on planet Earth as serious as most of us do. Instead, live it to the fullest, have fun, drink rum, learn to fly and fly fish, make great friends around the world and stay in touch with them.
Rating: Summary: I wasn't a Parrothead, but I am one now. Review: Not a parrothead, not a baby boomer, never heard a Jimmy Buffet song, but I am on my way to Music Land for a tape or two. I hope Jimmy comes to Utah on a Summer tour. I'll be in the front row, with my Parrothead Hat (if I can find one), swaying and chanting, "More, more Jimmy B." I'm sure to be your first 70 year old, new female fan. What a book, and what a life.
Rating: Summary: Great reading for Parrotheads!! What a life he leads. Review: Jimmy Buffett has definitely carved his name in stone as the one individual who's life I'd like to live. From fly-fishing to being a flying boat captain, he lives the quintessential life! Envy doesn't begin to describe it. Great book.....again, Jimmy!
Rating: Summary: Worth reading more than once. A great book on history too. Review: This book is 458 pages of a great adventure. I'm going to read it again just for fun. I enjoyed it so much. Imagine someone living out a dream and sharing it with everyone. If you're a Parrot Head you have to have this book. If you're not you may want to consider being one.
