Rating: Summary: Chuckles Review: The first two or three chapters are as dreary as a two hour weather delay in Philly but if you can get past that there is enough sophmoric humor to keep you chuckling all the way to europe. Check out her definition of "Crop Dusting." When you are done reading it you might consider giving it to the flight attendant you're hitting on.
Rating: Summary: A bit too glib and pat Review: There may be a bit of the 70's still within me, when I longed to be a stewardess....when Braniff ruled the skies with wildly painted planes and the prettiest stewardesses. As I read Rene Foss's brief recounting about her roots in air travel, her mom had also been a flight attendent...I was hopeful to not only have the witty insight of what Rene faced, but even a little bit of reminiscing from her mother. This was not to be. This book details the trouble and turmoil that a flight attendent todat faces, but there seems to be little enjoyment for the job. Even worse, she does not seem to care for the job or any of the people she comes into contact with, other employees or the flying public. After awhile, it becomes as grating as a teething baby on a nonstop cross country flight.
Rating: Summary: A funny read Review: This book is an enjoyable read about the life of a flight attendant, and the job that she has a love-hate relationship with. It is based on a musical show that she wrote her experiences. The chapters that were more obviously based on parts of the show mostly did not work for me, except for the "Macbeth" parody which had me in stitches. The best parts of the book are those that are based directly on her experiences. Many of these are very funny, and some such as the time that her airline insisted on continuing to schedule flights during a snow storm are simply scary. Of course some of the experiences such as strange work mates are like everyday work experiences for the rest of us, so sometimes the book does feel like an airborne version of Dilbert. I am left with the impression that whilst the job is very gruelling, and sometimes involves dealing with obnoxious passengers, she thinks the job is worth the hassles. The book is a reminder that the flight attendants' job is not easy and that we the public should not make unreasonable demands.
Rating: Summary: Ho-hum. Review: This book is little more than a long article and is, I'm afraid, nothing special. Ms. Foss became a flight attendant after that show biz career failed to work out, then wrote this book and some kind of musical based on same. The book is a long series of gripes about the job/passengers/travel. That's about it."Plane Insanity" is a similar book but much more entertaining, I would recommend you read that if you want to read about flight atendants.
Rating: Summary: Funny Ha Ha!! Review: This book is witty, charming, and offers some amusing observations about those who spend their lives up in the sky. In fact, I brought this little tome with me on a flight to Tokyo and my mood was definitely NOT bad. It was either this hilarious, well-written book or the six "drinks" I was served in first class. Like my flight (and the last two drinks), this book is first class.
Rating: Summary: Quick and Funny Read Review: This is a well-written first book by the author. The description of her training seems a bit over the top but as I read another flight attendant memoir (Plane Insanity) I am finding the same outrageous descriptions of what flight attendants must go through before flying. As a frequent traveler I was very interested to get a bird's eye view of the work that goes into getting passengers from A-Z. I was not dissappointed. While I have been lucky not to have been in many of the crazy situations that the author describes, I can certainly envision them happening.
Rating: Summary: Disjointed, Uneven, Has Its Moments Review: This is light reading for entertainment, not information. There are no specific travel tips, just repeated generic advice to be as patient as possible in all circumstances. The tone is heavily sarcastic except for a few passages where the author tries to convey the emotional warmth and tenderness that is a natural part of dealing with airline passengers. Unfortunately, these less cynical anecdotes are related in a cliched and cloying manner that robs them of most of their humanity. There is much in here that elicited a humorous snort but little that was laugh-out-loud funny.
There is no narrative development, just independent snippets which loosely follow the chronology of the author's career. And there are interspersed anecdotes that step outside of the chronology. Very often it reads like a third draft of notes taken in the development of a story.
I have no doubt that there is a compelling story to be told about the life observed by a flight attendant. Ms. Foss may someday even write it. But this isn't it.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money Review: This is one of the most boring books i've ever read. It wasn't even worth my time to keep reading. There were no funny stories. It was mostly stories I have already read. This book was terribly unoriginal and a real snoozer.
Rating: Summary: Around thw world in a bad mood confessions of a flight atten Review: This one was a "couldn't put down book. I took it to school and passed it on to some friends. I am not really a reading type of person, A matter of fact I was sick one day and I was watching today and they were interviewing Rene Foss. I had never heard of her before, and just thought to myself who in the world would want to be an author. but this book totally changed my way of thinking and made me want to read more books. The thing was books are so boring and rene made that turn around. she made the book so interesting i just need to find more books by her.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: Unless you enjoy hearing the whining and complaining of someone burnt out on her job. Many would kill to have her job and she claims to have done something wrong to have wound up where she is. The only thing she did wrong was write this book. Sorry but this book did one thing, put me in a Bad Mood!
