Rating: Summary: Pop Up Book of Phobias Review: Great book! GREAT Pop Ups - Very funny. Perfect gift for anyone in the "shrink" field. I gave it to my brother for his birthday and it was the hit of the party!
Rating: Summary: Visual & Mental Mind Candy for the slightly off kilter Review: Brilliant imagery, along with vibrant colors help create in my opinion the best popup book to date! A big thanks to the collective team of Greenberg, Rubess & Reinheart for taking ones worst fears and bringing them to life in a truly unique, yet entertaining format. I can't wait to have children to share this one with! Who knows where their imagination will take them!
Rating: Summary: A pop-up book for GROWNUPS! Review: OK, I admit it: I'm a pop-up book "junkie." I'm particularly attracted to cleverly constructed "sculptures," but rarely do I find the stories that interesting. Most pop-ups are written for children, after all. Still, I have a couple of favorite authors (Chuck Murphy and Robert Sabuda).Imagine my delight in discovering _The Pop-Up Book of Phobias_. Extraordinary sculpture, good descriptions of the various phobias; VERY well done, indeed! The spider (in the Arachnaphobia section) is particularly juicy; the dentist's drill actually "spins" toward you as you open the page. I highly recommend this to anyone who, like me, appreciates the artistic aspects of pop-ups. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: snoop dog... be gone Review: after reading about every seedy corner of compton, and all the other california glitz, my mind was wilted and i was brought to tears by the realization that the authors were no longer down with the pirus, the crips, or the mastodons. don't buy
Rating: Summary: "Pop Up Phobias" is a fun coffee table book Review: My sister gave this book to me for my birthday. She pokes fun of me fearing so many things, afraid of heights, spiders, flying, etc. This book is so fun to look thru, and we had quite a laugh. It's a great coffee table book, I love showing it to anyone who comes to visit. Everyone can usually relate to at least one of these phobias...great way to laugh at yourself!
Rating: Summary: The Best Christmas Gift I Received in 1999 Review: My son sent me The Pop-Up Book of Phobias and I found it so well done and funny, I ordered five to give to friends and family. I have never reacted to a book in such a way, that I felt everyone had to see it. I carried the book around for weeks showing it to everyone I know. It was great fun !
Rating: Summary: So real it's scary. Review: Picture yourself teetering over the edge of a city skyscraper overlooking the traffic below, or sweating bullets in front of an audience, totally unprepared to deliver a speech. Whatever your fear, this book actually makes you feel that you are there. So stunningly creative that other pop-up books fail to measure up. Not to mention, its unassuming cover will fit nicely among the clinical titles in any library. A frighteningly wonderful gift for the neurotic in all of us.
Rating: Summary: An Awesome Pop-Up Book! Review: I got this book as a gift and I love it! It's really creative and it really brings out one's phobias. Everyone I've shown it to loved it. It's a great gift for someone young at heart or someone with a great sense of humor. It's timeless. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Perfect for Psych Majors and Everyone Else! Review: I'm a psychology major at one of these top-notch Northeatern universities, and this book is a perfect addition to my impressive bookshelf. I found it both educational and entertaining, and I can thank Mr. Greenberg for helping me pass my Abnormal Psych exam (I got an A-, not too shabby). This isn't a book you should want to have, it's a book you need to have. The last time I have been so impressed with a book was The Great Gatsby. The time before that, it was The Prince of Tides. This is now the third time I've been wowed by a book (not counting Cat in the Hat, but I was three).
Rating: Summary: Phobia-Inducing Fun! Review: Cleverly hidden under a bland, clinical-appearing cover, the contents of this book jump from the pages to startle even those with steelier nerves. I was impressed by the well-designed pop-outs, which are vivid, detailed, and often incorporate motion into their design. There's bound to be at least one page that will spook you! Makes a great gift, or a fun coffee table book to entertain an unsuspecting guest.
