Summary: Paper has never been so creepy.
Review: I checked this book out at a local bookstore and when I got to the page with the spider I was so terrified I was rooted to the spot. I actually was so scared I could not move for a minute. I had to close the book, breathe deeply and relax. I didn't expect to have that happen as I am not especially terrified of spiders (I just don't enjoy them, really) -- so watch out! If you don't already have a phobia when you open the book, you may have when you put it down. It's a well crafted book, fun and thrilling.

Summary: Tremendous
Review: This pop-up book is sure to be a winner - the spiders and snakes seem to leap out of the page at you. Well-conceived and beautifully executed, it even had something for my homophobic Uncle Sandy.

Summary: So good I was scared
Review: Anyone who actually does have phobias should be cautious. The pop ups in this book had so much dimension, that they just jump right out at you. It's a nice coffee book table for scaring and entertaining your family and friends. And somewhat informative about various phobias.

Summary: Ha ha ha...
Review: This book is incredibly funny. Taking the elements that made up all of your favorite pop-up books as a kid, this book turns it into a nightmare. I'm sure that if you're scared of anything in this book, you'll have to turn the pages. For example, I am extrememly afraid of clowns for some reason and the looks of the clowns in this book is so scary that it actually made me cringe when I first turned to it. The art work is so great and funny that it really can't be taken that seriously, which is why I can actually stand to look at the clowns. The writing is taken with such a great wit that it makes you laugh over and over because some of the descriptions are written so straight that it is almost absurd. I've given this book as a gift numerous times because I think that everyone should own a copy, just so that people can see it on your coffee table and wonder just what in the hell it is.

On an aside, I think that every practicing psychologist or future psychologist should have a copy of this on their shevles with all of their books because it is bound in such a way that unless someone were to look at it, they'd never be able to tell that it wasn't some sort of text book. I think it would be a great ice-breaker with new patients and would definitely make me want to go back to see that certain shrink if they had a copy of it. Plus, it'll make them laugh also. This book is classic.

Summary: Great sense of humour
Review: The paper engineering is very creative and done with a great sense of humour. Everyone I showed it to laughed and liked it very much. Would make a great off the wall gift if you wanted to let someone know you appreciated their sense of humour and their creativity. You can look at it again and again.

Summary: My favorite pop-up book
Review: I love pop-up books. This one is phenomenal. If you want to be surprised, stop reading and order the book. Otherwise, read on to find out some highlights. The book starts with a dentist's drill complete with whirling bit leaping out at you. A few pages later you are unable to completely open the book you and find you are in the back of a crowded elevator. The arachnophobia page greets you with large spider and may give you a shutter when you realize it is crawling on your(a) bed. Next you come to fear of heights. I can't bring myself to tell about this one. It is just too good. The book ends with the phobia of those who fear their own end. I am sorry I really can't make myself tell more details. It is just too fabulous to spoil the fun.

Summary: Scaredy Cat?
Review: I didn't even have to see this book to know that I had to have it. I heard about it from a friend and ran to the bookstore to get it. When I opened it up, it instantly brought back all those wonder childhood phobias that terrorized us when we were younger. I love bringing this book out when I'm having a party just to hear all the comments made about it. Everyone goes wild to just see the book and it's pop-ups. This is definately a great coffee table book!

Summary: Pop Up Book of Phobias
Review: It was refreshing to browse the bookstore shelf and come across a zany book, which makes any PH.D Psyche (or Psycho) (who has a delightfully morbid sense of humor) consider proudly displaying next to the DSM IV! In the solemn quiet of the bookstore, I burst out with embarrassing laughter, especially as I read the one about clown phobias. The definition brought to mind a particularly interesting faux pas people make: people think it is normal to fear 'nonclown-clad' strangers more than it is to fear strange characters, such are clowns. Then, I thought, 'Yeah, how about dancing and singing purple dinosaurs, too! ' The colorfully animated pictures of the clowns bordered the definition, which drove the point home well... as evil appearing caricatures' spinning eyes and grasping hands struck a pose threatening, "I'm gonna' get you when nobody's looking!" As we live in the days when there seems to be a DSM IV definition for just about everything or anything there is to fear (even the fear of things not yet discovered!) I think the most effective form of getting over it always includes a good sense of humor. Imagine, inside a shrink's office: the therapist, who, in between intense sessions, finds him or herself uncontrollably chuckling as a result of reading over and over 'The Pop Up Book of Phobias.' A great stress reliever for both doctor and patient, if one asks me! So, if you're like me, you'll appreciate the therapeutic shock value (whether virtually or pun-induced) of 'Pop Up Book of Phobias' and will have an inner knowing how this always makes any medicine go down in better taste. From zero to cured for much less cost and years on the couch, 'Pop Up Book of Phobias' could prove itself to be a valuable asset to those who really want to change. Finally, the next time you find your inner child needing help with closure on some 'unfinished business' of life's various crazies, reach for 'Pop Up Book of Phobias.' But this time, you'll be reaching for the tissues to dry tears not of suffering... but, of uncontrollable laughter.
