Summary: Clinically funny
Review: Remember your childhood pop-up books? The ones that taught you with humor about different dog breeds or told you some classic story? Well this is just as enjoyable and educational, in a Norman Bates sort of way. This wonderfully twisted book is a psychotically cute tour through several well-known phobias, and some that are more obscure. When I opened the first page, and the dentist's drill jumped out spinning towards me, I knew this book was an immediate dark humor classic. But be warned, even though most of the illustrations are humorous and caricaturesque, to some people, some of the images may feel uncomfortable. Aside from its content, the quality and creativity of its design is superb. i have seen many praises for this book on various design trades. Enjoy.

Summary: I asked my colleague to send it back in a brown paper bag
Review: When I lent this book to a psychologist down the hall, I asked him to put it in a paper bag if he needed to leave it in my waiting room. Why?

This is one of the funniest books I have read, but if you actually have phobias, you have to be in the "right place" in your recovery to appreciate the humor.

I would recommend it for adolescents and adults who find that humor helps them step back and laugh at their anxiety, phobias or obsessiveness. This book consists of paper pop-up depictions of phobias including fear of dentists, fear of heights and fear of snakes. The person who worked on this book has clearly been through it himself. I can't imagine any other way that someone could get this so vividly. Open a page, and your worst fear literally jumps right in your nose. Not for young children or those who are especially sensitive.

I would have given it five stars if he had done a page on thunderstorms. Maybe there will be a second edition.

Summary: Strangely compelling...
Review: One of the cleverest books I've ever seen. The claustrophobia pages that don't open fully are a master stroke. Apart from its humour value - if you don't suffer from the phobias featured, of course - it's an extraordinary feat of book production in the physical sense. Getting all those bits to line up...wow!

Summary: The most clever and funny book I've read in a very long time
Review: Beautifully illustrated and written with razor sharp wit, the Pop-Up Book of Phobias is so funny that you'll develop a fear of reaching the end of the book. It's great fun to turn each page and watch several differant phobias come to life right before your eyes. This book will make a great gift,it's probably the most enjoyable coffee table book ever.

Summary: The Brilliance Jumps Right Out! Literally.
Review: Absolutely brilliant. I stumbled across this gem on a tip from Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America. You can count on feeling woozy with laughter or from recognition of your phobia! Mr. Greenberg, et al., have crafted a witty, nicely-illustrated and superbly-designed treasure of a book. The well-engineered pop-ups range from the quite elaborate to the very simple--with equal, yet remarkable, effectiveness. I look forward to anything Mr. Greenberg should produce in the future. I highly recommend it for anyone with or without phobias, in fact I've sent it to a couple of neurosis-laden friends, already. Kudos to the authors (and thanks!).

Summary: impressive conversation-piece
Review: fun to show to guests, not fun to have in the house. funny and creative, but a short read.

Summary: A BARGAIN AT THIS PRICE
Review: This is a gorgeous imaginative hugely creative book and a must for every phobic, every therapist, every nut case on your list.

Summary: Lots of fun!
Review: I am an environmental educator that frequently does a program on animal phobias. I decided to purchase this book as an ice-breaker before the program. It suits the bill perfectly. Each page makes you experience for yourself the feelings that people with these phobias must feel. Everyone loves looking at this book and asks me where I got it. It doesn't have more than a paragraph on each phobia, so you wouldn't want to buy this if you need a resource book. Just plain fun.

Summary: AN ARTFUL TWIST TO PHOBIAS
Review: Pop-Up books usually offer ingenious twists to the engineering art. They are often printed in Columbia, S.A., and have as many adults mesmerized as children. This book is described as "outrageously macabre." I quickly passed over the pages showing 'the hysterical aversion to snakes' but could laugh about my favorite: dentophobia, a portrayal of the scariness of sitting in the dentist's chair.

Did you know that having an overwhelming fear of clowns is called coulrephobia? Mysophobia, the pathological fear of exposure to unsanitary substances, often leads to obsessive-compulsive disorders which might drive you to watching Jack Nicholson in a favorite movie "As Good As It Gets" -- a sure source of laugh relief to counteract the snakes?/shakes! Don't miss this book & its companion "Pop-Up Book of Nightmares" -- they are great gifts to secure friendships?

Summary: Amazing paper engineering.
Review: This is a craft that I really appreciate, paper making. It is a neat book that realistically conveys common fears. The pages are a delight and my 2 year-old loves going through it with me. Great looking cover that conveys a different type of contents. What a great idea to create and cheers to the paper makers of the world.
