Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A very good choice as for beginers or intermediate players
Review: This is an excellent book. Read it if you haven't read it already. So far, its the best bang for the buck I've found in chess primers.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Essential "readme.txt" of Chess Primers
Review: I read through this book when I was 5 years old, and it was very helpful. Its puzzle format challenges you to look and look until you find the clever solution. Naturally, there aren't always such tidy setups in real games, but it did indeed help me to find some beautiful combinations which led to several wins against my dad!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Probably the best book for begginners
Review: Zillions of puzzles, tips, and information. I went through it when I was about 11 and it helped me immensely.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent course for beginners
Review: This book is arranged in a very logical and easy-to-understand way. It is also very easy to read at any place since it doesn't use any notation. This book clearly points out the fundamental ways to checkmate, which is one the the very first thing beginners should learn.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It really works!
Review: I gave my 3rd grade son this book, two weeks before the state team tournament. It got him thinking like a real chess player. He scored 4 wins out a possible 5 and beat a couple of 5th graders. He went thru the whole book in less than 5 hours. Ideal for your kid's first chess book, because it uses no chess notation, just clear diagrams. Can be read and again and again.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A good chess teaching book that doesn't require notation
Review: Good if you know how to move the pieces in chess but don't want to bother with notation in most other chess books. The book is well written.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Improves a beginner's playing skills dramatically.
Review: Written using programmed learning techniques. This book is a must for beginners. A book which, instead of talking ABOUT strategic principles and tactical ideas, makes you master them practically. Read the book, get hooked to the game

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Not Only For Beginners!!
Review: Although I am a strong player, every time I pick up this book it improves my play and shows how simple great chess can be played! This book uses a very basic teaching method which is written in plain english rather than the horribly old "chess babble" some books still use! If you were only to purchase a handfull of chess books, you must buy this one

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very good for beginners
Review: This book is formatted as a series of one page lessons and exercises. Very useful for the novice, less so for more experienced players.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not the best checkmate problem book
Review: This book covers very basic checkmate problems to solve and is ok, for a beginner to use along with additional books.
The problem is not that this book is so bad, but that there are much better books available for beginners. My favorite is the Chess For Juniors Book that has real instruction. For books on checkmate problems I like 1001 Brilliant Checkmates by Reinfeld.
