Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Read me on the bus!
Review: Are you just starting out in chess? Do you want to get better? Have time to study, but can not carry around a big board? This is the book for you. I highly recommend this book. Take it on the plane and improve!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Should be one volume of a 20-volume set!
Review: This book is great, and the teaching method it uses is excellent (and a lot of fun), but the book would have been more properly titled "Bobby Fischer Teaches How To Find The Back-Rank Forced Mate After Your Opponent Has Already Walked Into It." Other situations you will encounter in chess besides these are not covered in this book. So, four stars instead of five.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Remember the PURPOSE for the book.
Review: For the fool in Austria who gives only 2 stars for this book's inability to prepare one for Fischer's "Magnum Opus", why does that matter? This is a book for beginners and for a beginner, it's excellent. Using your logic, every book for the uninitiated would have to be given 2 stars.

If you've just learned to move the pieces, or don't even know that much, get this book. It's the first chess book I ever read and improved my game immediately. After this book, my father could no longer beat me! You've gotta start somewhere and this is a good place.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Basics of Chess
Review: If you have ever taught chess, one of the questions I am asked is, "What book do you recommend for a rank beginner?" Or, "I just learned how to play chess a very short time ago. I have not read any chess books yet. What book should I read first?" This is the book!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent for beginners (only)
Review: great book! wish i had this book in my early days of chess. a must for all beginners.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best chess book I have ever read!
Review: This was the most influential book I read when learning chess 20 years ago. Since then, I have not found any book which has boiled down the goal of the game in such concise language and diagrams. I always recommend this book to those learning chess or desiring to become better players. It presents the fundamental objective: checkmate; and builds upon simple examples throughout the book until the end where the board situations become quite complex. Also, Bobby Fischer uses an innovative teaching method which presents the questions and solutions only on odd pages, so that when you get to the end of the book, you flip it over and read toward the front. This makes a person's progress through the book much faster and encouraging. Its an ideal method of teaching for young (and old) students of the game.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An excellent book, especially for beginners!!!
Review: This is one of my favorite books!!! Beginners will enjoy the easy to read format and wealth of diagrams and information contained within. More experienced players will benefit from a review of the basics and reinforcement of skills. A fun book to read!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Concise, to the point, an excellent tool.
Review: The timeless game of chess is taught easily by the GRANDMASTER. I have been playing the game for 20+ years and have only now learned how to play properly. This is a must have for all Chess enthusiastics.
