Rating: Summary: Nothing new here Review: This book hasn't had any major text changes since the 7th edition. Look for the 10th edition soon.
Rating: Summary: A MUST FOR MOVIE LOVERS Review: This book is a must for anyone interested in movies or for film students. I first came into contact with this book in 1985 while at film school and it remains on my book shelf as a wonderful reference book. This book covers everthing from a-z and is well illustrated. The photographs are great and are direct references from the text - not just a visual for the sake of it, as often happens in subscribed texts. This is one of those books I would call "A MUST BUY." I am considering buying the most current version - eventhough I am working in a different industry.
Rating: Summary: Guidebook To Understanding Movies Review: This excellent and easy-to-understand book describes how to analyze and interpret movies in much the same way that we have been taught to analyze and critique literature. Spanning the whole of the 20th century and every conceivable genre, it is a must for anyone seriously interested in understanding movies thoroughly. Includes both theoretical and practical aspects of filmmaking.
Rating: Summary: 10th edition on the way Review: While I use Understanding Movies in my introduction to film classes, I have a large gripe with the book of late. Other than pictures, little has changed since the seventh edition! If your professor uses the 9th edition, you might want to politely mention this to him/her and ask if you may use the 7th edition which you can probably find for about three bucks. Also, be aware that for the 2004-2005 school year a 10th edition is coming. Don't know if it will be the same rehash or actually offer us something new for our money. We'll see.
