Rating: Summary: Outstanding Book! Review: This book is absolutely FANTASTIC. It takes the "mystery" out of the awkward start up period ("How do I hold the bass?" How do I tune this darn thing?") and then quickly digs in to keep the reader interested. Think you are too "good" for this book??? Don't be fooled by the title! This book is quite useful for players (like myself) who've been around the muscial block for a while. Patrick is a very gifted instructor and his talent and love for the instrument, music, and teaching shines thru on every page. Even if you are an advanced player, the sections on musical styles, advanced scales/arpeggios, and creating grooves can always help. Patrick teaches you valuable skills that you need to survive on the job and get MORE WORK. (Plus the "Bassists/Drummers to Know" section is a MUST read!) It is obvious that Patrick knows his stuff cold. He is a bountiful resource for Bass Guitar instruction and his writing style and quick wit keeps you interested. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Rating: Summary: Whoa! A Bass Players DREAM! Review: This book is astonishing. A product of pure genious! For any bass player, or somebody just picking the bass up, who's looking to sit down and read (and enjoy) everything to know about bass; Here It Is! "Bass Guitar For Dummies" full of differnt styles of music, eg: Jazz, Ska, Funk, Rock, Hard Rock, Country, and many more. This book covers a wide range of Theory such as: Scales, Apreggios and Notation, of course many aspects as well! Patrick Pfieffer covers all of the bases (excuse the pun) and adds his own touches of creativity and humor! A great book that reminds you that Music is fun to play and fun to learn about too! Thank God I got it as soon as I did, and I encourage you to do the same!
Rating: Summary: Bass Guitar not just for Dummies Review: This book is packed with more information than several other books combined so it's well worth the price. Fantastic resource for the beginner and intermediate and, despite the title, even advanced players will gain new insight into their craft. The simple straight forward writing is clear and directly to the point - and some of the attempts at humor are actually humorous. Covers everything: what the bass does in a band, creating grooves, different styles of music, scales/modes and arpeggios, reading notation and even concepts for soloing. AND the CD is awesome!!!! You can hear and play along with examples from the book to really get the feel. Pfeiffer is an excellent teacher and having his book is like taking lessons from him. I think using this book will help you to quickly understand and play bass well.
Rating: Summary: The Last Word In Bass Instruction Books Review: This book should come with every new bass sold. Even expert players can get something out of it. I really value this book if you can't tell already. The only books you'll need after this one would be for specific styles (Jamerson, James Brown, Duck Dunn, etc.). The author is a great teacher and very accessible on ActiveBass.com if you ever have questions! How much better can that get?
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This is easily the best book for Bass Guitar instruction ever. I have bought several and this one is the best value for the money. It is clear and easy to follow (most "Dummies" books are!) and the CD is really well produced. If you are a student or a teacher, I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Best bass book I have found for beginners and more Review: When I decided to pick up bass, I did some research and bought 10-15 different books, including books on scales, books on grooves, getting-to-know-your-bass type books, etc. Without a doubt, this has been the best book I have found. It's the most comprehensive, yet easy to understand, book I have come across. The book is written by an expert and the advice and exercises in the book are excellent and well explained. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: I laughed - I cried - I loved it! Review: WHY DID I HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG? I would have needed this book years ago when my music career still had a chance.... It is unbelieveable how fast this book takes you from Hillbilly sheep band status to actual credible musician status. Well thank this Kraut for finally doing what should have been done years ago!!! If you want to do anything beyond BASSic you need to get this book!!!!
