Rating: Summary: Very good book, with advice from a poker legend Review: The stories throughout are worth the price alone. Add to that Cloutier (& Mcevoy) giving sound poker advice, and you get a book to look at for years to come. The book is focused on both pot limit and no limit, and the advise is split evenly throughout. It offers a ton of strategy, practice hands and different view points (Cloutier and McEvoy are both great players, but play certain hands very differently). The writing is such that you feel that TJ is sitting next to you, telling you how to play - - an aspect that I really enjoyed. The book ends with tails from TJ, a collection of poker memories from his days traveling from game to game throughout Texas.

Rating: Summary: The bible on no limit and pot limit hold em Review: This book is an absolute must for a no limit or pot limit hold player. It is arguably the best book on the market. T.J. Cloutier is one of the most successful poker players of all time without question and he is still around those final one or two tables at the World Series of Poker. T.J.'s secret to success is how he analyzes players throughout a session. He knows your betting patterns from all positions of the table. He shows you how vary your play based on the player. Will he only raise big with AA or KK or will he raise anything like K 9? In my opinion, you can't buy a better pot limit hold em book. It shows you how to build up those pots and tells you the differences it is compared to no limit and how to win. It talks about no limit tournament play but doesn't really have a section on no limit play in general. But don't get me wrong, you can learn just about anything you need to know about the game in this book. Rating: Summary: championship TOURNAMENT Review: This is an excellent book on pot limit and no limit hold'em, but the title can be misinterpreted. When it comes to side games, the pot limit section is very helpful, but the no limit talk pretty much covers tournament play, specifically the WSOP. For no limit side games, I would recommend Super/System. Doyle and TJ seem to agree on most points, such as being careful with AA or KK etc. with only a few discrepancies, but they are different players with different styles. The only other benefit for side games that TJ's book has is that he gives more detail in the reasoning for why AJ, AQ, etc are high risk hands, but Doyle does cover it too. Get this book, but if you want to play side games, get Super/System too.
Rating: Summary: #1 Book On Poker Review: This is the #1 Book On Tournament Poker. I'm a decent player and following TJ's strategy in this book Get Top 20 out of nearly every tournament I enter regardless of the field. Don't miss out and not buy this book, If you play poker you MUST buy it. It will make you a better player beyond anything you ever imagined.
Rating: Summary: Mcenvoy's Best book Review: This was a very Enjoyable Book. It provided important and useful concepts about the game of Poker. I learned new concepts, which identified some leaks in my game. Leaks in your game can come from anywhere!!! Leaks can originate from lack of aggression, overcalling raises, misreading opponents and any other number of ways. So this book helps. Many people look at poker the wrong way. They think to win they need to do all of this super fancy plays and mindblowing stunts. Well folks...there are not that many options in poker...you fold, call or raise. So its really hard to do thinks that will just fool your opponents all the time. To win at poker it is mostly limiting your mistakes and getting all that you can from winning hands and minimizing losses on losing hands...that's it Ive been playing for about 5 years now and love the game. Ive read many poker books and found this one to be very good. So I would suggest you buy this book and maybe a couple others and get to playing. Rating: Summary: The bible on pot limit and no limit hold em Review: When Phil Hellmouth wrote that this was the bible on no limit hold em, I had to pick this book up. And it turns out it is. T.J. is one of the most feared players at the poker table. His winning ways that he talks about are not impossible to do. You just have to pick your spots and play good hands. It's a simple formula that works. I finished 10th out of 1000 in an online tournament the first time after reading this book. There is no doubt that you can have the same success. If you are going to buy a poker book for no limit hold em, then buy this one.
