Review: IT IS AN EXELENT BOOK.

great roleplaying reference you may notice that there is no dry humor in it. the truth is that the whole thing is a joke on key with war of the worlds.

Summary: Every Small Town Motel Room should have one. (Norman?!)
Review: I could not put the book down the moment I read the first page. The black humor that Max Brooks incorporates in this twisted field manual for surviving an on slaught of the living dead to be worthy of a CIA manual for a third world country, or during the ethnic cleansing in the Baltic states during the Clinton administration. Every small town motel room should have one in the night stand, right next to the King James Bible. This should also be included as a basic staple for every Marine field pack!

Summary: Best zombie defense manual there is
Review: You're sitting at home, casually watching The Simpsons. You've just gotten a call from your friends, saying that they were going to come by soon and pick you up for a game of bowling. Suddenly, the power goes out. You glance around. You don't really see anything that could have caused this, or that would be of any help. Unworried, you just sit back, and wait for your friends. When the moaning outside starts, you're getting annoyed at them pulling this prank. Then they break down the front door. You angrily storm in, and you see only a group of shambling, clumsy, disease-ridden ZOMBIES!
The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks is a humorous, tongue-in-cheek book about the true zombie (not created through magic, evil spirits, or anything like that, but through a virus called Solanum) and methods to combat, escape from, and defend against them. It sounds very serious, except for the topic, and may make some people reading this start to worry and take precautions. Overall, it's a pretty good read, with plenty of helpful zombie combat strategy and laughs. Just make sure that this information becomes common knowledge when the dead do attack.

Summary: Required reading...
Review: This book is a must read for any zombie movie fan.

The only thing is, all this information needs to be updated to reflect the new breed of fast zombie (Resident Evil, House of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead 2004). If you thought surviving was gonna be easy, not any more against the new guys.

Summary: This books pretense is almost as big as it was dissapointing
Review: The book was amazingly lame, and boring.

I feel ripped off. Infact I have been! Take a look at all the reviews here. They are mostly 5 stars, and written with the same manner, tone, and style. Then there are a group of reviews(real ones) which take the complete opposite view (the book is terrible). The amount of these reviews are around the average amount that an unimportant book like this would receive. Obviously the author has just been compensating for his own incompetence by adding fake reviews.

In summary: DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A good read for horror or survival fans
Review: I have no clue why this book would be shelved alongside humorists like Dave Barry, when the subject matter is anything but funny. The book reads like a very serious guide, no funny pictures, no real jokes to be found (unless you count examples of what NOT to do with zombies as funny). What makes this book so good is that it paints a very realistic picture of zombies and zombie horror; there's no demons, no voodoo or mystic garbage, it's all science. And much of the advice is very well reasoned and insightful.

Also, if you plan to write a story about zombies or zombie outbreaks, this book will serve as a definitive guide to making a believable story.

Summary: Excellent book, a MUST READ for fans of Romero zombie lore!!
Review: I guess the only reason this book is published and shelved in the "humor" category is because pretty much nobody believes that zombies are real. But other than that, it's not a very humorous book...... it mostly deals with horror, violence and cannibalism. It's basically like watching a Romero zombie flim in book form.

I guess one of the reasons everyone thinks it's a humor book is because the author is a SNL staff writer and the son of Mel Brooks. Well, I think maybe there are assumptions being made because this book doesn't read like something that was written to make people laugh.... it reads like something that someone wrote knowing no one would believe most of what's in it but not caring in the least.

I don't agree that it's a parody or a book of humor or tounge in cheek or any of that..... I think that Max Brooks wants to believe that zombies can exist and has written this book for the rest of us who also want to believe that it's not just horror fiction. Hey.... Mulder wanted to believe in UFO's, and there are those of us who want to believe in all kinds of things. There are a lot of people out there who want to believe that zombies can exist because they want to pit their skills against them.... same reason people go ghost hunting and the minute some place is rumored to be haunted you have 3,000 tourists there every year.

Those of you out there who want to think that the whole zombie business is the stuff of bad Z-grade horror flicks and nothing more, that's why this book is published under "humor." You can laugh at this book and take it as a parody.... whatever works for you.

Those of you who enjoy Romero flicks, the new Dawn of the Dead movie starring Ving Rhames, the Resident Evil films, etc., and wonder what you would do if a zombie virus outbreak actually did occur, this book is for you......and as one of your fellow zombie lore enthusiasts I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Summary: Competent & Humorous
Review: The book is exactly what you would expect. It does seem to lack practical application, but it is a perfect skewering of survival manuals and is generally good for laughs.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: it's all crap...
Review: not to mention boring. Although I did force myself through the entire book, I would not recommend it to anyone. The advice given in this book is just plain stupid. One example... it says to use close combat weapons against zombies, as "blades do not need to be reloaded". The book also says to use a bicycle rather than a car when traveling among zombies. Where does he get this stuff?!?! I know I would rather just run them down and shoot them; not make myself as easy to grab as possible.
The book also provides brief instructions on how to use various firearms on the zombies; but spends more time talking up and advising how to use obscure melee weapons that the author seemingly got from dungeons and dragons or something like that. Any of you have a "Shaolin Spade" kicking around the house? Didn't think so.
If the book is supposed to be a comedy, it failed miserably. If it is really supposed to be a survival guide, it failed just as badly.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exceptional
Review: This is the best book I've found to defend against zombie attacks. This book takes a bite out of the flesh of non-believers and casts them directly into the realm of possiblility. I would recommend this book to anyone that feels they may be at danger for zombie attack.
