Rating: Summary: A political agenda ? Review: Conservative leaning book based on the premise that Hollywood is full of hypocrisy and liberal bias. Any book with a favorable quote on the back by Ann Coulter has got to be questioned. Some brilliant insights include the notions that Andrew Dice Clay was a victim, Harry Knowles can make or break a movie, and no one likes Shannon Dougherty because she's a republican. You'll quiver with boredom over chapters about online sex chats, partner swapping (with no names given or even implied), the cutting edge (sic) lifestyle of the ancient Hugh Hefner, and meaningless wink-wink nudge-nudge insinuations about Tom Cruise. If they had something to back up what they are implying, it would at least be interesting. They can't and don't. The chapter on Paul Barresi is at least mildly entertaining as far as sleaze goes, but you can get this on the net in a more complete form, written years earlier by the heterosexual Ebner. Want a really horrifying and daring book about celebrity? Track down a copy of Michael Jackson was my Lover. Now THAT is a shocker! This is a whole lot of nuthin'.
Rating: Summary: Right or left, this book is RIGHT ON! Review: I bought Hollywood Animal and think that Hollywood Interrupted deserves a place right next to it, along with Day of the Locust. They rip the scales of the public's eyes and reveal Hollywood for what it is. It's great that we live in a free country that allows diversity of views, otherwise, we wouldn't be able to read books with opinions that may differ from our own. I am glad I read both HI and HA despite the opposition to them by many people. I learned a lot and they made me think, which is what good books are supposed to do!
Rating: Summary: Just more right-wing clap-trap. Review: All you have to do is look at the "Customers who bought this book also bought:" section. Just more right-wing clap-trap.
Rating: Summary: Hollywood Wierdos Exposed Review: An enjoyable book about the wierdo people in Hollywood. Kind of like a journalist version of the wierdo Hollywood novels by Carrie Fisher and Rikki Lee Travolta. If you like The Best Awful, Postcards From the Edge, and My Fractured Life - this is the true stuff that probably inspired them.
Rating: Summary: fabulous! Review: This book is fabulous! I believe that most of the people who are bemoaning that this book is just a rehash of old stories are wrong. This book is not about the stories. It's about the notion that these narcissitic half-witted celebrities are totally devoid of values... oops, we are not allowed to talk about values.
Rating: Summary: Oxycontin Blues Review: The authors bring a tongue in cheek tone to their assault on Hollywood, but they don't miss the inherent sadness of the city without a soul. The glamour and class as represented by Cary Grant in the Fifties has been usurped by the pathetic nature of Paris Hilton on sex videos and Courtney Love on oxycontin. The Hollywood system has set itself up to fail, and the only thing missing from the authors' careful examination of the bottom feeding trend in Tinseltown is taking to task the corporate decision makers for allowing the excrement to fly as "entertainment." I don't even turn my television on any more. Nor do I fork over cash at the cinema. The strange thing is that there's really no love lost. This book made me realize that I'm much better off celebrating my family, my life and my country than I am the sniveling celebrity inebriates and deviants who think they can enhance my cultural, spiritual and, God forbid, political viewpoint. Breitbart and Ebner clearly aren't psychiatrists, but they do know the smell of excrement when they step in it. They're welcome in my home any time, but I'd remind them to wipe their feet. Great book. I'm looking forward to the next.
Rating: Summary: I am Curious, Not Yellow Review: The repetive message of the ones indicates one (or possibly two) interested party(ies) doesn't want you to read this book? Why? Are they a celebrity? A Celebrity 'handler'? A Scientologist? A Crossroads student? A Pan Man? Or a deeply concerned E! Channel watcher scared his vicarious celebrity sycophantic life is going to crumble before his eyes? Enquiring minds want to know! You'll find the answers to these and other questions in Hollywood Interrupted
Rating: Summary: Read it and see why people don't want you to! Review: I have read the reviews, AND THE BOOK and am baffled by the one star reviews and note that there are many fours and some threes. I think that there are w/out a doubt some people who would have given this book a three or four but gave it a five just because of the no-naught babbitry exemplified by the one star ranters who shrilly pound their chests in empty futility against the truth which is: a) THE BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN. Crud doesn't get published except if you own the publishing company or pay to have it published and Wiley is not a vanity press, just check out their website; b) THE BOOK HAS FACTS AND INFORMATION THAT UPSETS PEOPLE--the Oprah comments, the scathing brutal Courtney Love chapter (she gets nasty to her "enemies" having slugged and threatend several journalists);and Scientology which is revealed in the book to notoriously proud of attacking people who say unflattering things about it (along with some other facts about the group which are pretty jaw dropping, and other fringe faiths like Kabbalah with its special blessed water and crazy Diane Cannon her faith healing.)ALSO, celebrities who defend civil liberites and free speech in the US GO TO CUBA and kiss Castro's uniform, IGNORING THAT THE DICTATOR IMPRISONS AND EXECUTES GAYS AND POETS? These stars wouldn't have a chance if they lived in Cuba. They ignore Castro's regime of human rights abuses (and film piracy!) to be able to hang out with a political leader in a socilaist govt and look cool. GROSS! If a book cause controversy of this size, there's a reason!
Rating: Summary: Badly Written and Obnoxious Review: Breitbart and Ebner need to take a few writing courses. Knowing the book is badly written only makes reading their biases worse. Apparently people from Appalacia are all backward moonshine makers, according to Breitbart and Ebner. They say they don't want us to challenge nonesense when it comes out of the mouths of Hollywood "stars". Fair enough. Equally, you should challenge the nonesense that came out of the pen of these "authors". This book will leave you feeling that the authors are not just denigrating Hollywood, but they are denigrating Americans by suggesting that we are too dim witted to see through them.
Rating: Summary: Slamming Hollywood Review: I read this book and I'm bewildered by the five-star reviews. The NY Times talked about gaming on this message board, and it seems that the authors are working overtime. The book does rehash old Hollywood gossip, and the moral theme doesn't hang together. The writers try to make a point, but they sound like adolescents. If you are used to good journalism this book is not for you. If you are just looking for empty gossip and to slam (to use the word lampoon would give this book too much credit) Hollywood you might enjoy it.
