Rating: Summary: I'm a little disappointed with the recipes Review: This book is very well put together and thumbing through it definately got me excited about trying some of the recipes. We've tried seven recipes so far. While they were all well written and easy to follow, my husband and I just haven't been very impressed with the outcome. They haven't been terrible, but they haven't been good either. Of the seven we've tried, we've only identified one recipe that we'll use a second time (the Crabsolutely Fabulous Pasta Salad--yum!). I like vegetables, but some of the recipes include veggies where they just don't seem to belong. I would rather peel and cut some carrots and serve them as a side dish than dice them and include them in a chili-based dish (as in The Yellow Bows of Texas). The added vegetables haven't made the dishes bad, but they don't add anything and can be distracting if you have any picky eaters coming to dinner. The book does include nutritional information with each recipe, which I really like. All in all, it's a well put together book, but I buy cookbooks primarily for recipes and I'm afraid these are only okay.
Rating: Summary: I've lost 73 pounds - and still going! Review: This book, and its companion Looney Spoons, are fantastic. Partly with the help of these two books, I have been able to lose 73 pounds since last Christmas (OK, I had a lot to lose! :)) The recipes are more delicious than I thought possible - even preferable to "regular" recipies! My favorite from this book is the Forrest Gumbo, a terrific and extremely low fat/low calorie gumbo that anyone can put together in just a few minutes. All of the other recipies we have tried are extremely tasty and are easy to prepare as well. A nice feature of the book is that every recipe has the fat and calorie information listed clearly at the bottom by portion, and take it from a big eater, the portions are generous. We have even lowered the fat and calorie content of several of the dishes in the book ourselves, substituting things like 99% fat free chicken broth instead of the standard chicken broth, fat free spread for butter, or egg substitutes for eggs. Even though I have lost 73 pounds, I have a good bit more to go, with maintenance after that. This book will have a welcome place in our kitchen for years to come!
Rating: Summary: Low fat recipes that will satisfy nondieters! Review: This book, as well as the previous one, Looney Spoons, is filled with recipes that can be enjoyed by the whole family. I have many cookbooks but these are among the most frequently used. The ingredients are readily available and the nutritional information is right at the end of each recipe. Every recipe I have made I would use again. So nice to have a cookbook of recipes that are good for you but that don't seem like diet food! I also appreciate the humour that the authors show.
Rating: Summary: High Praise Review: This cookbook is the most reliable, consistently delicious source of low-fat recipes in my collection. I bought the book because I appreciated the humorous stories and cartoons and oh by the way, the recipes looked good. But who wants another boring low fat cookbook? Those recipes are always so predictable. If Janet and Greta Podleski had a recipe for crow I would happily eat it. These recipes are inventive, appealing, and good for adults and children. I haven't tried a recipe yet that wasn't to everyone's liking.
Rating: Summary: A Cookbook You Can't Live Without! Review: This cookbook is truly amazing! Not only does it contain amazing, great-tasting recipes, there are also helpful tips to eating and living a better lifestyle. Greta and Janet make it fun to cook when using this cookbook. Everytime I open it up, I find new and useful tips and tidbits. All my friends are receiving this cookbook as Christmas gifts this year!
Rating: Summary: Another great success! Review: This is almost the exact same review I wrote for Looneyspoons, but I raved about that one and Crazy Plates is just as good, so I'm not sure what else to say. I'm one of those cookbook collectors who owns dozens of beautiful, pristine, unused cookbooks. But Looneyspoons and Crazy Plates (and of course Joy of Cooking) are the books on my shelf with the most folded, spattered, tattered, scribbled-on pages, because they are truly the books I go back to again and again for reliable recipes that are great - tasty, easy to follow, and low-fat. But if you're one of those scared off by the low-fat label, don't be! This isn't carrot sticks and bulger, it's wonderfully flavoured pork tenderloin, trifle, rice pudding, tons of great pasta recipes. Check out the hamburger/cabbage soup and the quickbread recipes.
Rating: Summary: You will never know this is low-fat Review: This is my favorite low-fat cookbook. Not only is it loaded with great recipes, but it is one of the funniest books I have read lately. Every page not only holds a recipe, but contains some tidbit of useful - or at least humorous information. They talk about fat, exercise, nutrition, health, trivia, etc. as if they were writing a comic strip. It's like getting two books fo rthe price of one!

Rating: Summary: Nothing but delicious! Review: This is the only low fat cookbook I reach for anymore, and I have lots! I have no fear trying new recipes, or ingredients with this cookbook because everything always turns out delicous!!! Even my non-dieting husband can't tell that he's really eating healthy. No one would ever know they weren't tasting a bite of the high-fat version of these delicious creations. Aside from great recipes, the authors make this book an enjoyable read as well. Throughout the pages you'll find interesting exercise facts, and other trivia items to help you along as you strive towards better health.
Rating: Summary: You will never know this is low-fat Review: Trying to cook healthy for my family used to be a big fight and other cookbooks used to use ingredients that you had to find in health food stores and speciality stores...where this cookbook, every recipe is fabulous...so good that I lost 50lbs and everyone in the family eats the food...especially the most finicky eater in the bunch...and the ingredients can be found at your local supermarket...this is a must have book
