Summary: Healthy AND fun
Review: Jam-packed with lots of real-life recipes and suggestions, this book and the author's e-zine are quickly becoming two of my favorite sources for healthy food ideas. The book includes not only yummy recipes, but short (and entertaining!) how-tos, definitions, and suggestions that range from "Cooking Basics or How to Drive without a Map" to "Spice Primer" and "Ode to Garlic." Each recipe includes author's comments and taste-tester comments.

Summary: Kudos (not the processed kind)
Review: Kudos to the author for writing this book. Avoiding "bad" foods does not always result in a nutritious diet. In this book, basic nutrition is followed by nutritious - and mainstream - recipes. What would have been useful is a section describing how to increase the nutritional content of existing recipes without changing their essense. But there is good content in this book. One surprise - the author also takes a hardline with firm tofu: forget it. It was truly liberating. Instead of obsessing with incorporating tofu into our diet, I decided to have more fun with other nutritious foods that we like better. And this book is intended to be fun and is targeted to parents. There are few better gifts to give children than a nutritious diet and an understanding of nutrition.

Summary: Every Family Needs this Book!
Review: Leanne Ely has given us a wonderful gift with this book. Not only does it contain lots of great. family friendly recipes - but it is chockful of nutritional advice and lessons. Youc an even get lesson plans to go with it to help teach your children how to eat better. My family has gotten a lot of use out of this cookbook and I highly recommend it to all Moms or Dads who want to instill a little nutritional advice to their children.

Summary: A Healthy Resect for Time, Budgets, and Kids' Tastes!
Review: Leanne Ely's extremely fun-to-read book has given me new inspiration to try new, creative, and FAST dinners, such as "Enchilasagna" and "Double Duty Chicken." Having cooked for my family for 14 years, and always looking for new healthful dinners to try, Ely's book fits the bill! Her succinct chapter on allergies also made me realize that one of my kids may be lactose-intolerant, and I already making substitutions in his diet to good effect.

Ely really won me over with her admission that tofu really does taste bad, and her directions for easy substitutions in case you don't have a specifically called-for ingredient. I also like the fact that the book is small, and therefore not intimidating to read through.

Summary: A must for every cookbook library
Review: Leanne's style is so easy and entertaining to read; you'll just LOVE this book. It's packed with valuable information and lots of great recipes. She explains both how to stock your pantry and what unusual foods are. You'll thoroughly enjoy this book. I know I did. I bought it on Saturday and finished it on Sunday. I've enjoyed cooking from it and referencing it regularly.

Summary: This book changed my family's lifestyle!
Review: My son was having chronic stomach aches that his doctor said were caused by his diet. I bought this book for the nutritional information, as well as the recipes, and it changed our family's lifestyle! The nutritional information was easy-to-understand, and really gave compelling reasons to change how the whole family was eating. The recipes made that change easy, with quick, tasty and inexpensive meals. Not only have my son's stomach aches stopped, my husband and I have lost a total of 65 pounds in 9 months! I have recommended this book to everyone I know!

Review: Terrific, family friendly advice and recipes. These are sure to become family favorites! Can't wait til my son is old enough to use the Unit Guide, as well...our family is already healthier, thanks to this book.

Summary: My most used cookbook!
Review: The recipes in this book are very user-friendly. This is not the typical health cookbook that you see on the shelf, decide to buy, and never use.

Leanne has a delightful and humorous writing style. I actually sat down and read the book when I received it. I don't usually read cookbooks. :-)

The recipes are family-tested and will be enjoyed by the average family.

Summary: Best Cookbook Ever!!
Review: This actually isn't just a cookbook. It includes so much information, not just recipes. I love Leanne Ely's humor and wit so much. The recipes are terrific... my family has loved everything I have cooked so far. I highly highly highly recommend!

Summary: Perhaps the author should seek a new editor
Review: This book give great advice on how to provide healthy meals for your family without making yourself crazy at Whole Foods. Much of her advice were points I had read elsewhere, but for most people, I think its great to have it all in one easy-to-read book.

My problem, and the reason this book didn't get 5 stars, is the recipes. They are great! If they work... I have found several of the recipes leave out steps or just simply don't turn out (the Peanut Butter Cookie recipe left out when to add the eggs and vanilla, and though I am an experienced baker who can figure out when to add these things, the cookies didn't end up as cookies. The PMS Cake leaves out the step of adding wet ingredients to dry, crucial for an unexperianced baker).

The Pumpkin Munmpkins and the Mayberry Blueberry Muffins (which I have made with both blueberries, and other assorted berries) are fabulous and will forever be a constant in my house. The snacks and dips section also gets heavy useage.

Hopefully, these problems are just with my printing, or will be resoved in future printings, because Ms. Ely's other books are spectacular.
