Rating: Summary: Dave Barry is hillarious Review: I think this book is a cross section of what all of us have encountered at least once in our jouney through cyberspace. Dave takes us through a journey from the point of purchasing a computer to finding love 'on-line'. Most readers, with cyber related experience will relate to the incidents in the book. It is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud,(LOL as it is in the book!) even when you are alone.
Rating: Summary: Ready to snort a lot? This book is for you... Review: My book loving friend in FL sent this to me. My husband and I used to read aloud to each other, so a recent Sunday night I asked permission to read the passages. We were snorting out loud! On the humor scale, this one almost reads "10" measured by number of laughs per page. It's on our list now for the next gift for my computer loving, but fun loving, father in law.
Rating: Summary: Denegrates Customer "Support" Review: Dave Barry has always made me laugh, and he has done so again. This time, though, he made it personal. I was a techie for an Internet company, so all his comments about Customer Support really hurt, even if they were true. :-)Like most people say, the RayAdverb/MsPtato story was a departure from Dave's usual style - but I liked it. What can I say? He's a funny man.
Rating: Summary: Talk about virtual hilarity! Review: Yikes! This book really kills a person with laughter. While not the very best of Barry's books, it certainly is one of the best in cyber comedy. Which isn't bad at all! His forays into the virtual world will have milk shooting out your nose. And best of all is his emoticons, and his own creation, sexicons. This stuff is dangerous! It is guaranteed to kill with laughter.
Rating: Summary: Just hilarious! Review: I love Dave Barry and his work. He's one of the few, if not only, authors that can win your heart by words such as booger. He can say a completely false statement and go about the whole book like it is true. And the more you know about computers, the funnier it gets. But even if you don't know anything about computers, it'll still keep you laughing for a long time. I gave it 4 stars because, like a lot of you, I didn't like that MsPtato/RayAdverb chapter, it was sort of a bore. I've been reading it on the plane trip and at school, and I've been laughing out loud everywhere I read it! I couldn't stop! Buy this book, it's just hilarious!
Rating: Summary: WARNING: Do not read in public places Review: There is nothing quite as embarrassing as suddenly breaking into fits of laughter in a public place -- which is exactly what might happen if you try reading this book. Dave Barry is his usual, hilarious self, twisting ordinary facts into fresh jokes. Sometimes he even makes up those facts. Either way, it's still one of the cleverest lampoons of information technology that you'll ever read -- and probably a lot more fun than those Dummies books, too! Unfortunately, this book on computers -- like computer technology itself -- is subject to obsolescence. Many of the websites in the "Selected Websites" section have already moved or shut down. However, Barry's reviews of these sites continue to be funny long after the site is gone. There's also the question of that looooooong chapter on the MsPtato-RayAdverb story, which, although having its moments, is a little more mellow than Barry's usual style. It must have been a disappointment to his regular readers; at first I thought it was a waste of paper too. But after a while I came to appreciate the mini-story, which seems to be a new development of Dave Barry's writing -- a development that led to his first novel, Big Trouble. "Dave Barry in Cyberspace" is few years out of date now, but it's still a hilarious book to read. Recommended for all Dave Barry fans, but if you're just starting to get into his books, buy this one later.
Rating: Summary: You'll Laugh So Hard, You'll See Stars....In Cyberspace Review: Dave Barry is definately one of the funniest writers of all time, and he continues to shine in this book. Every single page is loaded with intelligent humor, so much so, that you will need a box of tissues. The book, written like a computer manual, is very easy to read and flows quite nicely. His ride through the information superhighway is pure genius and non-stop hilarious laughter. This book is a must read for any computer-user, or for anyone who enjoys playing with his joystick. Do not "Abort, Retry, or Fail" in picking up this book.
Rating: Summary: Dave is Dangerously Funny Review: If you choose to buy this book be warned: it could endanger your health. If you are a person not comfortable heaving out bursts of uncontrollable, wild, debilitating laughter within earshot of others, this (or any of Dave's books) is not for you. Attempts to supress the amount of laughter you will experience may cause lung and abdominal damage and possibly a brain aneurism. There are some experts advancing the theory that Barry is secretly trying to weaken the masses into a lot chortling bed-ridden lunatics so that he can assume power over the free world. If you think you are strong enough, then you may proceed to checkout (or go to your local book store where they won't charge you $8 for next-day shipping that takes the better part of a week).
Rating: Summary: A classic! Dave Barry advances to new tecnology! Review: Any situation he comes across, Dave Barry can make it funny. And its all true. I think the funniest bits are about the Windows operation system version 1.0 (C:), and the question and answer bit about the internet. I dont know how you do it, Dave, but dont stop! Any true Dave Barry fan, get this book or I'll kill this dog! PS His best book, which I would give 6 stars if possible, is "Dave Barry Slept Here", the history book.
Rating: Summary: The funniest book I've ever read. Review: This book is easily the funniest piece of literature ever written. Everything he says is true and we've all had many of the same observations as he writes about, but nobody could make it as funny as Dave Barry did in this book. On a couple occasions, I almost got heartburn and suffocated from laughing so hard. This is a must-read for every literate person in the digitalized world. Five stars was not nearly enough!
