Summary: A must-have for Sims 2 lovers
Review: Crammed with colour pics on every page, oodles of tables and charts, gobs of data from the trivial to the critical - this book has everything that should have been in the game manual. But of course, "official" guides really *are* the game manuals, craftily packaged and sold as extras.

Well, for Sim 2 lovers, you *have* to get this one. It is simply too rich in information, tips and hints not to own if you want to immerse yourself in the Sims' world. Sure, you can dig up most of this stuff online at fan sites and through FAQs, but nothing so tidily packaged, or so well presented.

Why only four stars and not five? Where's the index? This book is way too thick, with too much stuff scattered throughout NOT to have an index! That's an unforgivable omission - doesn't Prima have at least ONE editor? Or just designers? An index is CRUCIAL to make any manual truly valuable and effective.

Summary: Not needed for this type of game.
Review: I don't think that the Sims 2 needs a game guide becuase, it is an open ended game and it makes the game less fun when i use it.

Summary: Well Worth It
Review: I rarely buy game guides, but knowing The Sims 2 is a *very* intimidating and over-whelming game for new players I decided to buy the guide. (Full Retail $21)

This is definatly one of the best Prima guides I've ever viewed! Since, I am a Sims Veteran about 2 "Parts" of the 5 in the book seemed useless. I found myself skipping through -many- pages of the book, and It became tireing how the guide kept repeating itself unnecessarily throughout different chapters. So, for me, alot of the basic sim information that might be important for "Sim Newbies" to know I already knew from seasonal sims gaming.

Yet, the guide is fully equipped with charts, packed-full with expert imformation, exclusive in-depth chapters dealing with sim's social,want/fear,aspiration actions and objects, and alot more hot-tips that makes the guide Well Worth It!

I would recommend this guide to any sim fan, because it's seriously a great accessory for the "Sequel to the #1 PC Game of All Time!"

Summary: Best game ever!!
Review: I really love this game! Create yourself, your friends and the one you love... Make your dreams come true in a game if it didn't happen in real life. Marry the one you love, have kids and watch them grow as you get older! Enjoy the social life, sometimes get in the fights with people...Make a good carrer in the field you like and so on. It is a real world in a CD game.So don't miss it

Summary: A Very Helpful Guide
Review: I usually do not purchase the game guides, however I am a huge fan of Sims2 and I wanted to know how to effectively maximize my Sims2 game experience. This guide does the trick.

I now have a clear understanding of the various levels of the careers within the game. How to achieve these levels and what level will be next.

There is also a comprehensive listing of all the objects content within the game. This helps gamers understand how these ojects affect their Sims.

I have read this guide cover to cover at least three times. Each time I read it, I become more and more knowledgeable of the ins and outs of The Sims2.

I recommend this guide to anyone who wants to maximize their Sims2 gaming experience.

Summary: So-so
Review: If the book had an index I would have given it 5 stars, but as is I find myself flipping through the book back and forth looking for the answer to my question.

I actually sat down one day and started to read it cover to cover but never finished. Who wants to "study" for a game?

Summary: Great evolution of the Sims franchise
Review: If you liked the Sims then you'll enjoy Sims 2. In many ways it is very similar to the previous Sims game, however it is now in a truely 3D environment (you can move and rotate the camera more freely - rather than just switch between four views) and in general seems liked a much tidied up, polished and less bug ridden version of the previous game, but also with many great new features.

Gameplay on previous versions generally involved moving a family of Sims into a house (perhaps building the house from scratch) and with whatever remaining money was left over - use that to furnish it and but items for your Sims to play with or build skills. Then get your Sims employed in one of several career tracks and manage their lives successfully. Keep them happy and fulfilled and they'll get promoted - thus earning more money for you to spend on their behalf. Plenty of fun.

The new version offers all this plus many extra features. First, there are three neighborhoods you can choose to place your Sims into, all nicely laid out much more like a normal town than in earlier Sims games.

Electronic Arts have added very nice character creation features, where you can create your own custom Sim in more detail, changing facial/body shapes and features freely, set personality types and clothe them. You can create a family just like your own, or the one you had hoped for!

In the game, the 3D environment adds a much needed update to a tired looking system. The user interface is also much better, still as easy to use but much improved, much nicer looking and a lot more helpful.

Also improved is the artificial intelligence programming gone into the game. No longer will your Sims fail to go to bed or locate the toilet. Never should you be unable to move a piece of furniture the program seems to have forgotten existed.

The Sims now have aspirations and also age, which of course means they may eventually die too (there's something called the elixir of life). The aspirations feature is a cool new way of managing your Sims life - basically at any one time, a Sim will have four wants and how you can satisfy those wants helps to reflect how successful and happy they will be in life. Oh, there's also four things that, if occured would decrease happiness. It's a great mechanic to revolve gameplay around and it can be quite a challenge to match your teenage daughter Sim up with the guy of her dreams, who unfortunately has aspirations on someone else.

It's very interesting to see the aspirations build on from each other. When an aspiration is fulfilled, a new one replaces it and often it's related to the previous one - perhaps more advanced in some ways. A character may just want to tell a joke to another, but one thing can lead to another.

The house building and home making system is now also much improved, with the 3D environment offering a lot of freedom to build some reasonably complex architecture and fun homes. When I first looked at this I thought 'this could be complex' however EA have pulled off a really intuitive interface. Building homes is fun and easy in the Sims 2 - and also very rewarding. Home building and home making is a big thing in this game.

The Sims 2 characters interact with each other in more ways than before, with seemingly more meaningful interactions available in different contexts. I especially like the humor involved in some of the interactions, especially the 'woohoo' option between consenting adults.

This is a truly great and very different game of appeal to many different players. Yes, my Wife a big fan of the original Sims loves it too and I bought her her own copy.

The Sims 2 plays much like the previous Sims game but with very worthwhile differences. It's easy to get addicted all over again.

Summary: Sims 2 Official Guide
Review: Well worth the price (and I got retail for $21+). I am a seasoned Sims player (all expansion packs), and found this to be absolutely terrific. There is a lot more to Sims 2 than genetics, aging and 3-d. Objects do more, peeps do more. You could figure it out (maybe) with time, but why struggle, and find out the hard way that you can now put doors/windows on diagonal walls? Here is a concise list of all objects/build mode/ including cost, depreication, what they do. These folks obviously paid attention to all the hackers out there that built stuff, caused new actions, etc.--because many of those ideas are now part of the official game. This book will prove an invaluable resource to all Simfanatics! I recommend this book--even full retail!

Summary: Great book, has all you'll probably ever need!
Review: Well, the title says it all! The Sims 2 would have been much more challenging (not necessarily a bad thing) without this book. And it was cheap, too (gift certificate). For that Sim Addict in your family, I have to recommend this guide! It's great!
