Summary: Excellent, needs to use 24bit color more, though.
Review: I landed a 25k per year job after reading this book! Overall it's awesome!

To you guys, code fixes: shift 6 and 11 bits in the 16 bit color macro(for loading 16/24BPP BMP's), and in some places devide SCREEN_HEIGHT in half and see if the screen is still all there. (code errors in book)

Summary: Rockin!
Review: I tell yah, that space_ant guy is a wierdo. This is the best book on the topic of programing directX windows games. Yeah, WINDOWS!!! So why don't you go off in the corner and cry You DOS IDIOT! Ok, that wasn't very nice. I'm sorry. This is a great book. Yes, he uses wrapper functions, but he tells you how DirectX works and how to program for it before he gives you the Wrappers. I will recommend this book till I'm blue in the face. Simply the best, better than all the rest. And this is a pretty funny book to. He doesn't talk like a text book. He talks like a cool guy, in which he is, I've talked to him quite a few times. Anyway, his style isn't like Vulcan, for a rock writing. And that's my point on that. It definatley deserves 5 starts

Summary: An enjoyable computer topic book
Review: I had read so many computer topic books. But I found out that Andre is one of the best authors around who can explain such technical topic brilliantly with simple plain english. And you can tell that Andre wrote this book with full of his heart on it not like some titles such as "Learning XXX in 21 days"! Fully recommended if only Andre can extend the content in future edition.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
Review: If a better introductory game programming book has ever been written, I'd love to read it! I am a Senior at The Citadel, Computer Science major. I, like most undergraduates Comp. Sci. majors, was comfortable in C++ programming, but I had no real Windows nor DirectX experience. Andre Lamothe put it all together in a very informative yet readable way! From basic Windows programming to advanced DirectX features, he never lost me as a reader. When I did have a small problem configuring my compiler, MS Visual C++ 5.0, I telephoned his company and he actually answered the phone. He really helped me out in a matter of minutes! I may never program for Eidos or Midway, but I will be a valuable member of the shareware underworld one day! Hats off to you, Mr. Lamothe! You da' man!

Summary: The best book yet for learning DirectX and Win32 programming
Review: Yet another incredible offering from Andre Lamothe. This book gives an excellent treatment to Win32 programming before diving into DirectX. It's an extremely easy read. It's been less than 3 weeks since I've bought this book and I'm already well underway to converting my old DOS library (based on Andre Lamothe's Black Art of 3D Game Programming) to work in DirectX. If you're looking to make 3D games, I still recommend this book, but you will need some additional text (perhaps Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus). A must-have book for anyone who's interested in Windows game development.

Summary: A Great book for learning DirectX
Review: This is an excellent book for those who want to learn game programming with DirectX. When it comes to taking advanced topics and explaining them, Andre' is one of the best in the buisness.

This book provides a crash-couse in windows programming in C, which is great, because there aren't many good books that explain windows programming the way it should be explained: getting right down to the point and telling you what you need to know, then giving you the power to seek further information with ease.

He takes the somewhat complicated DirectX and simplifies it. This ability to explain is what makes him a best selling author. The bonus chapters on Neural Networking are amazing. They'll give you a whole new way to look at AI. I believe(and maybe you will also) that neural networks are the future of artificial inteligence in software(such as games) and especially hardware(such as robots).

This book is for those(maybe dos programmers) who are familiar with some game programming theory and would like to advance their technical knowledge or simply move to windows.

Summary: ***** Fantastic! *****
Review: Great organization, great content, great author! Very easy to follow with little technical jargon, many sample codes, shareware utilities, even the DirectX SDK! After finishing this book, I even found myself liking the Hungarian notations. Wanna start DirectX? This is the book that you must have!

Summary: This is THE intro to Windows Programming
Review: Well, he did it again! This is a great book on Windows and most aspects of DirectX. Some DirectPlay and Direct3D would have been helpful, but I still refer back to it on some simple Windows stuff. I recommend reading Inside DirectX next go get a full and better understanding of DirectX, but all in all I highly recomend this book!

Summary: THE book for gameprogramming newbies and other dummies
Review: This book takes you beyond the boundaries of standard programming and introduces you not only to gameprogramming but to Windows programming in general. Showing the basic lines of a generic windows application to the basic skills of gameprogramming. This book can be applied by everyone who has a burning interest to programming. I can without any doubts recommend this book for any newbie in programming and to those interested in getting into gameprogramming in an Microsoft Windows Environment. Allthough an excellent book, it does not get advanced so this is just a book for taking the first steps. Advanced gameprogrammers should look elsewhere. Two words, Buy it!

Summary: Great book to start!
Review: Just about everything you need to *start* learning about game programming is here. It is a shame that the original text is crippled by the publisher. Anyway, this book doesn't fit into standard "dummy" concept for some basic knowledge of the C language is required and some programming experience as well.

P.S. Don't forget to print out missing chapters!
