Rating: Summary: Another excellent book in the "[digital]" series! Review: This book has the same quality and organization as all of Dan's other books. I have seen some comments before on the "poor quality" of some of the images in the book, referring to the scenes that were (probably) created using Poser. These people are obviously only flipping through the book and looking at the pictures, the images are used to demonstrate certain shots described in the book. They are an excellent example of how you can use Poser as a quick storyboarding tool. This book takes cinematography and directing concepts and translates them into digital format. Whether you are shooting digital video, or rendering animation, you can benefit from this book. This book is loaded with valuable and interesting information, all present concisely and understandably. It continues the consistent quality that is apparent in the entire [digital] series.

Rating: Summary: Excellent material for teachers and students Review: This book would make an excellent instructional supplement to teachers and students of animation. It's both comprehensive and easy to understand with visual examples on almost every page. It was a smart idea to stay away from software technique and focus on the aesthetics of cinematograghy. This means that no matter what software you use, you can still learn from the many concepts within. In fact, the material applies to all filmmaking...and caters to both the novice as well as anyone looking to refresh. For any animator who is about to embark on making their first animated film, I would suggest doing this first: Step #1 Get this book and read it thoroughly. It might be best to have your own copy for future reference. Step #2 Make some popcorn (assuming you like popcorn, otherwise substitute with other favorite food of your choice.) Step #3 Rent and watch Citizen Kane while enjoying the popcorn. Whether you've seen this film before or not, and whether you love it or hate it, I guarantee that you will notice a higher level of aesthetics that you hadn't seen before thanks to what you've learned from Dan Ablan's book. And with that, your films will be all the better.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: This is a very nice book, although not very indepth. The title should read "An Introduction to Digital Cinematography & Directing" This book combined with a few more of Dan's works and you should be well on your way to great stuff. Ablan definately has a knack for making what could quickly become a disaster into a nice, neat, easily digestible reference.
