Rating: Summary: Inspiration for aspiring film-makers! Review: Tim Albee has done a great job unveiling the behind-the-scenes of how he created his 3D short film, Ghostwarrior. The book covers so much about the whole effort that went into this project - from the techniques and tools, through to the psychology that went behind such a project and how to keep oneself motivated!Tim did everything on this film - And I mean EVERYTHING - including dialogue, music, foley, design, script, modeling, editing and animating. Having the opportunity to get a look at the way he went about it is truly inspiring! Not only was I inspired, but learnt a few things along the way artistically as well from a man whose been in the biz for a while! This is a great read, and I can't wait to see the DVD once its out too!

Rating: Summary: Paper Tiger Review: Timothy Albee is right about one thing: the face of animation is changing. Thanks to the dropping costs of 3D animation software packages, animation is becoming democratized and within the reach of the amateur filmmaker. With technology no longer a barrier, the only thing separating a professional animator from a rank amateur is talent. Unfortunately, that is where Mr. Albee is sorely lacking.
One needs only to watch "Kaze: Ghost Warrior" to realize that Albee is all talk and no susbstance. While his modeling and rendering abilities are passable, his animation skills are EXTREMELY sub-par. This is not a man who should be giving advice to up-and-coming animators. His narrative abilities aren't much better. From a storytelling standpoint, "Kaze" is a pretentious piece of piffle. It is little more than a collection of fantasy/samurai-movie cliches, strung together by incessant, nauseating camera moves and offputting "Furry" characters (for the mercifully uninitiated, "Furries" are a bizarre animation/comic subculture that fetishizes anthropomorphized animals).
The "Kaze: Ghost Warrior" DVD also features an unintentionally comical interview with Albee, which reveals much of his warped worldview. This is the kind of guy who goes on to start a cult. Albee takes himself and his film EXTREMELY seriously, apparently envisioning himself as some sort of messiah of independent animation. The credits of the film alone, whether meant seriously or in jest, say it all: almost every credit, from voice work to animation supervisor to layout assistant, is Albee's own name.
Rating: Summary: A must have in your CGI library! Review: Timothy is a genius and an inspiration. Without a doubt this book will clarify the mysteries you will encounter while working on your own short. His philosophies are unique and fresh and his knowledge of film making is unbelievable. This book is well worth the time and money spent.
