Rating: Summary: Online Poker - An Opportunity Missed. OK Advice, Review: This book is Pretty good. However, it does not offer as much insight as I would like to see on some of the special circumstances of playing poker on the net. I would have liked to see more: 1. comparing online poker and B&M poker from a profitability perspecive 2. Sit-N-Go tournaments - a big component of online poker...but not B & M 3. Cultivating table image online 4. online tells and their importance or the lack thereof. 5. Database software programs (pokertracker) to assist your game 6. note taking systems. There is much more to be written on this subject......mayb e I should write it? The advice is solid however, so if you are looking to learn about poker and also to gain a little insight about online poker....go ahead and buy it. Rating: Summary: Great book for the beginning player!!! Review: This book, together with Lee Jones "Winning Low Limt Hold'em", covers everything you need to know about playing Hold'em on the Internet. However, I would suggest reading "Winning Low Limt Hold'em" first. These two books together will have you winning 1 or more Big Bets per hour in no time.
Rating: Summary: It's a must read.. Review: This is a great book and if you ever need any questions answered you can always talk to Matthew on his website.. I recommend this book for the beginning player or an advanced player.. One problem.... I wish it had more information on NL hold em, almost everything is directed towards limit.. You can however take some of the information and apply it to both.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: This is an excellent book for players looking to improve their Texas Hold'em skills. The book starts out with important poker concepts. The chapter on odds and probability is a must read for any serious player. I now know how to apply mathematics at the table rather than just calling hoping to get lucky. The starting hand chapters are excellent which include some charts which are now posted next to my computer for easy viewing. The flop chapters are very comprehensive and at times cover advanced concepts that I am not sure apply at the lower limits, but useful nevertheless. There are a lot of interesting concepts about the Internet throughout the entire book. Any player with a little study should be able to win on the Internet with the advice of this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent hold'em book Review: This is by far the best poker book I have ever read. Although it is titled Internet Texas Hold'em, this book will help you even if you only play live. It is well-organized and easy to read. There are three chapters on starting hand play which gives you an idea to how detailed the book is. Another chapter quite interesting was the bankroll chapter which opened my eyes quite a bit about the fluctuations which occur when playing. The great thing about the book is the hand examples which helps you a lot in understanding the concepts of each chapter. My only complaint with the book is that it does not cover tournaments. This book pays for itself in no time at all. Destined to be a classic.
Rating: Summary: Good book for begining internet Hold'em players Review: This is the first poker book I purchased. It made me a winning online player. This is a basic starting book.
Explains the importance of pre-flop hand selection and recommended starting hands.
Explains why some cards work well with more players in the pot. Explains what hands work well with one or two players in the pot.
Go over post flop play. How to play draws, slow playing, check raising, ect
Explains importance of position. Why you need to play more tightly in early position. Why you can be looser in late position.
These are all important in getting a basic understanding of how to play Hold'em.
I am no longer using just Hilgars strategy to play poker. I can say this gave me a good starting point on becoming a good poker player.
Rating: Summary: Great Book on Internet Hold'em, Review: This was a very Enjoyable Book. It provided important and useful concepts about the game of Poker. I learned new concepts, which identified some leaks in my game. Leaks in your game can come from anywhere!!! Leaks can originate from lack of aggression, overcalling raises, misreading opponents and any other number of ways. So this book helps. Many people look at poker the wrong way. They think to win they need to do all of this super fancy plays and mindblowing stunts. Well folks...there are not that many options in poker...you fold, call or raise. So its really hard to do thinks that will just fool your opponents all the time. To win at poker it is mostly limiting your mistakes and getting all that you can from winning hands and minimizing losses on losing hands...that's it Ive been playing for about 5 years now and love the game. Ive read many poker books and found this one to be very good. So I would suggest you buy this book and maybe a couple others and get to playing. There's really no excuse anymore - since anyone can access the internet. [...]
Rating: Summary: Internet Texas Hold'em: Winning Strategies from an Internet Review: Very well organized, logical, and the examples make all of the concepts easy to understand. Internet play IS different from what happens at the casino so the different strategies are discussed in an interesting way. His web site is very infomative also. Your earnings and the fun will increase if you follow his advice!
Rating: Summary: Excellent all around hold'em book! Review: When I first started playing hold'em online about six months ago I realized that if I didn't study the game I would just become another gambling statistic. Though I like poker I'm risk averse at heart, so I hit the books hard, picking up reading recommendations from the 2+2 forums. The most frequently recommended trinity of hold'em poker books to start with seem to be: Winning Low Limit HOLD'EM [WLLH] (Lee Jones), The Theory of Poker [TOP] (David Sklansky), and Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players [HPFAP] (David Sklansky/Mason Malmuth). I've been through all of these, the latter two several times as they are particularly good. However good TOP and HPFAP are I felt there was something subtle lacking which made the advice more difficult than necessary to put into practice. Not until I stumbled upon a copy of Matthew Hilger's Internet Texas Hold'em by chance did I realize what it was: hand examples! Remember learning subjects like math? Very difficult to solidify the concepts by simply reading theorems. Most people require the repetition of doing many examples to use the theorems with any facility. Poker is no different and the "Test Your Skills" sections at the end of each chapter in this book are worth their weight in gold. The "answers" to the examples are perfectly concise and there is no pretension that they are set in stone. You will be challenged just enough to think about each situation without feeling bogged down. For this reason Hilger's book serves as more than just another book on hold'em theory. It is "workbook" that will help you to start thinking through typical hand situations rather than simply memorizing tables of starting hands and odds. Overall, your ability to recall strategies for common hold'em situations will be much better having thought through the carefully chosen examples Hilger presents up front. For the beginning/intermediate player (I can't really comment on expert players...yet), Hilger's is the best single book on the subject. Make no mistake, Hilger's books is comprehensive enough to take you into the tougher, higher hold'em limits and I envision coming back to it many times in the future for a refresher. In comparison, Jones' WLLH (the most often recommended introductory low-limit text) feels threadbare: very few examples, loose starting hands, and not nearly enough on post-flop play. Do yourself a favor and substitute Internet Texas Hold'em for WLLH in the trinity. You will have to do much less experimenting at the tables and will be well prepared to integrate the topics covered in HPFAP and TOP.
Rating: Summary: Great book for beginner to low-intermeidate. Review: [...]you can't go wrong with this book based on content for the beginner to low intermediate! Some of the details here basic, but if you're new to the online game -- regardless of how much experience you have in live play -- this book is worth reading even if it seems to touch only on the basics. The concepts of taking notes on other players and game selection is a very unique concept to the online game.
