Rating: Summary: A Must "Read" For All Courtney Fans Review: This book starts out at Lollapolooza and gives you brief but detailed descriptions that occured in her many "episodes" on stage. It tells of her poor childhood and her teenage years of rebellion. It takes you through her a life of struggle and obstacles. She never let anyone tell her she couldnt follow her dreams, and they did. It proves what a strong and talented woman she is and that nobody will ever get in her way-and when they do-clock em! It also tells of her first encounter with Kurt that lead to their marriage and his suicide. It shows what Kurt and Courtney really went through, that they wished to keep to themselves and not to the media. This was a great book and I could not put it down.
Rating: Summary: save yer money Review: This book was a horrible portraly of Courtney Love, esp compared to Poppy Z. Brite's book. I thought that it would be a good read, but its not worth it. It is a biased point of view with most of the information coming from an ex-boyfriend who obviously cant be trusted. save your money and if you want to read a good book about Courtney, get 'the real story' by Poppy Z. Brite or 'grrrls' by Amy cantrememberherlastname.
Rating: Summary: Very well written. Great perspectives. Wonderful read! Review: This book was fabulous. I am an admitted Hole fan, and I have always stuck up for Courtney. This book really draws a clear picture of her entire life. I was highly impressed by Rossi's writing. Definitley recommend this book to any Courtney Love or Hole dabbler or fanatic. :)
Rating: Summary: Save your money..."Queen of Noise" ain't worth it Review: This book was practically painful to read. I was looking forward to it, being a big fan of Courtney Love's. Having heard about it on the internet through the Hole mailing list Hole Lotta Love and the newsgroup alt.fan.courtney-love, I enthusiastically plonked down my $7.99 at Toronto's World's Biggest Bookstore. What a mistake, when I realize now I could have bought some nail polish, new shoe laces and a frappucino for that much. Rossi's main source for info seems to be some obscure ex-boyfriend of Courtney's. Yeah, now *there's* a reliable and honest perspective. I'm not sure whether Rossi is a Love champion or not...she seems to admire her but examines all the awful things she's allegedly done. Love's life is a compelling story; I'm looking forward to the Poppy Z. Brite biography even more after reading this crap. Better writing would certainly have raised this above 7-11 cheesy rock bio. Unfortunately, that's where I feel Rossi's work should remain. She even gets simple facts such as significant dates wrong. I was thoroughly disappointed...I feel Love deserves so much better than this garbage. I'm not defending her as a person; I don't know if she's stolen or lied or what. I just really didn't enjoy this book. A friend of mine in Seattle that I lent this to (in order to save her money) says she couldn't even read it. .."I just looked at the pictures"
Rating: Summary: This book is very entertaining to the last page! Review: This is a good book to read! I read this book in 2 days(that's how good it is!).It tells you about everything that you ever wanted to know about Courtney and what she went really through in her life. The good, the bad, and the ugly!I also read the other Courtney Love biography by Poppy Z.Brite years ago which was also a good read!
Rating: Summary: The book was most definitly awesome. I highly recommend it! Review: This is definitly the book for all Hole listeners. It was interesting to learn about her achievements and struggles throughout her life. She has a wonderful talent and this book just lets you get to know her better.
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read.It is condensed with details and shocking stories.I also found it to be rather un-biased,which is good.
Rating: Summary: Read with caution! Review: This was my chosen book for those times when I feel like hell & want to know that someone else had it MUCH worst than I moi, and was able to do amazing, seemingly reckless (but highly calculated) things in life, eventually fulfilling her dreams through sheer perserverance. When I look at the pix in the middle of the book, I see her "pre-nose job #1" and even "pre-nose job #2" and think, ewww, if I was born that way I'd never have the courage to leave the house, let alone go after my dreams, esp. if they involved being famous!! But she did it-- and who cares if 70% of America hates her? When people hate you it typically means they're envious, which is a very good thing to be on the receiving end of. Better to die hatefully remembered than forgotten! A word of warning: if you depress easily when hearing the ills of others, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. (Take it from someone sociopathic enough to become a lawyer who STILL had to put this down due to the depressive factor!)
Rating: Summary: You'd THINK this shocking story wouldn't be a waste of paper Review: Unfourtunately, you'd be wrong. From all accounts, Courtney Love's life is one of melodrama- from her unconvetional childhood among hippies, a shocking upbring, stories of drug usage, groupiedom, and Courtney Love's phenomenal band Hole, to her controvericial (yet, regardless of what this book will have you believe, not at all loveless) marrige to rocker legend Kurt Cobain, to the birth of child Frances Bean Cobain, to her continues transformation a self proclaimed rock star...Clearly there is a lot of material for a biography of Courtney Love- a story such as hers is both engaging and deeply moving, when told from an unbiased source. But the author of this trashy work of non fiction decides to completely dehumanize Love, destorying the notion of love in Courtney Love's life, choosing instead to focus on persona rather than actual life experiances. Reading this, one would believe that Courtney and everyone she knew was a psychopath. It seems that in this book, being a psychopath is cause for glorification! This book needs to be more personal. It needs to focus on the good as well as the bad. And it needs to be put off the market. Please don't buy this book. Buy: Courtney Love: The Real Story. It's a much better read and gives you a much better look into duch a painful life.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it Review: Yes, it's a bit "tabloid-y," but what do you expect from an unauthorized biography? This book provides at least a vague notion of Courtney's evolution, and, well, it's fun. As usual, the most interesting part of this book is the section of photographs of Courtney. Also, being a former Portlander myself, I liked that it mentioned Courtney's time in Portland as being important in her development. I also liked how it described all the creativity that was in Portland during the years Courtney was there, because those were the same years *I* was there. So, it's sort of a time capsule, in a way. I also enjoyed the mention of her love/hate, on again off again, friendship with Kat B'jelland, the lead of the band "Babes In Toyland." Kat is also from Oregon, so this book shows how Oregon can produce interesting, and hell-raising, women. Tonya who?
