Rating: Summary: Most gossip and distortion Review: 11am one morning long ago I sat on a couch with this book and didn't stop until I was on the last page. As I closed the cover, I launched the paperback (says something when it comes out in paperback only) across the room. It was a definate mixture of too much CL energy and an anger that I wasted this much time on a Saturday. Obviously this book has its attraction, (which was the idea you were learning about one of the most enigmatic women of the last decade) that kept me reading it. But this impulse has little to do with Melissa Rossi and her writing, and the ex boyfriend from hell imformant. Of all the people in the world to attain accurate information on anybody; spurned, jealous, and loser exes are probably not a very reliable sources. The book oscillated from adoration of CL ; as if we were privy to a telephone conversation of the author trying to weedle her way back into being in contact with CL, an apologetic phone call to an angry friend, to angry recriminations from a friend ignored. There were moments which underneath the accusations of CL giving Kurt heroin and generally treating people in an disrespectful way that screamed "how dare you chuck me as a friend, and since you did, I will tell the world all your secrets, and if some of them weren't true, I will propogate it anyway, because hey, that is what I heard." Not pleasant to be part of such drama. I have to admit the bits about CL's childhood and teenage years seemed quite objective, and sympathetic, from what I could gather was written when Rossi was still friends with CL. The rest of the book falls short. I would suggest you borrow it from the library, because it is not worth the $ and you won't want to keep it. However, if you are a CL fan, I guess it is worth dipping into. And last but not least Chiang Kai Shek Airport is definately not in Hong Kong. The airport in HK at the time was called Kai Tak.
Rating: Summary: The girl with the most cake Review: Head and shoulders above your average rock biography, covering the life and times of Queen Courtney with an admirable lack of snivelling hero worship
Rating: Summary: A Great Buy!!! Review: I am only half way through the book but it is definitely a book that makes you want to keep reading. This book is full of information that is essential to understanding one of the most intriguing and beautiful chick-rockstars found in Courtney Love. The only problem that i had was some wrong information that i came across. One thing is how Melissa Rossi states that Dave Grohl did not attend Cobain and Love's wedding in WAkiki when in Poppy Z. Brite's book, "Courtney Love:The Real STory" there is a picture of Grohl, Cobain and Love on the beach at their Hawaiian wedding. Definitely a small mistake hidden in the slew of information but it does make the reader wonder how credible the info is. All in all, for $5.00 it is a great book and i would recommend it to any Courtny Love fan.
Rating: Summary: A fascinating Insightful Look At Love. Review: I bought this book at a large chain having seen it staring back at me on the shelf while passing by the biographies. ........... Let's be honest, Courtney Love is a fascinating person. Whether you personally admire, like, listen to or even barely tolerate her, a story about Courtney HAS to be interesting by default. I just finished reading another book about Courtney by Poppy Z. Brite. I liked that one, but I found this one much more interesting, and in depth where it counts. While Brites book was well written in general, she wasted alot of the book on unimportant details that caused me to skip over several sections. Rossi doesn't waste any time getting down to the nitty gritty facts, or fiction, for the reader. Who really knows the Hole truth but Courtney and those in the book anyway? All I know, is that I didn't skip sections in this book, therefore, it held my interest straight through. Some folks quibble over accuracy, but let's face THESE facts, good author, bad author, accurate to perfection or not, this is a highly entertaining read that I personally enjoyed very much. I do agree though, that a factual account of someones life, should be as accurate as possible, and the writer should make sure all research is indeed, correct. ............. Like many others, I find Love a fascinating person, and have read plenty about her in magazines too when available. If you are similarly Love inclined, you should not miss this book. Whether it is the BEST book on Courtney's life story, the jury is permanently out for me. In my opinion, any book with an interesting subject, plot or characters, fact, fiction or a bit of both, is on my must read list. I read the Brite book after this one, but I found this one more interesting on a Hole. Don't miss out because some folks get hung up on technicalities or personal likes/dislikes. If you are at all interested in Courtney Love, read it, you'll LOVE it too.
Rating: Summary: shudder..... Review: I bought this book years ago, read it, and then packed it away during a move. Last week I dug it out of the box with the intent to read it again, and I remembered why I packed it away. It's horrible. The author gets 1 star for having the balls to write a book about Courtney during the Courtney-hating era, and one more star for writing a full-length book (all the others written before it were basically photo books written in about a day). But that's where the praise ends. Melissa Rossi's writing STINKS. Every page is filled with embarrassing slang, quotes, and images of Courtney we'd rather not see. Even Courtney admits to all this stuff, but at least in Poppy Z. Brite's (MUCH BETTER) bio you don't find yourself cringing all the time. For some reason Courtney's old flame from Portland is a major provider of info, and the author also includes her own trifles and triumphs during the book. If we wanted to know about Ms. Rossi's haircombing habits and stuttering problems, we'd have asked her to write an autobiography. I can't stand this book. I've been tempted to sell it but it's not worth the money I'd get for it.
Rating: Summary: So honest it hurts! Review: I read Poppy Z. Brite's "The Real Story" before "Queen of Noise". Brite left out a lot of hard-core details. Rossi, however, did not. This is a real pageturner, I couldn't even put it down! Now, I really feel as if I know Courtney. (Even though I'm not her biggest fan)
Rating: Summary: miss eva Review: i read this book to do a report on. I started to like hole after i heard Celebrity Skin and Live Through This. This book gave a me a ton of info on the rock glam goddess. I really liked the way she started out with a list of all the people in the book. I finally found something that could do justice to my icon, and this book was it. If you like courtney, you'll love this book.
Rating: Summary: excellinet, paints a very realistic scene of courtney and he Review: I really liked how this story is writen, the writer obviously has a lot of talent, nad the way that she portrays courtney is so real and honest, she doesnt completley bash her, bubt she straight up tells the truth! Not many writers aer willijng to do that, especially for courtney
Rating: Summary: awesome melissa rossi Review: i wasn't able to put this book down, reading it into the wee hours with one eye closed. what i loved best was the author's witty, observant and often hilarious way of telling this story. i am sure even the most stoic among us will have a few outloud laughs and crys, sometimes simultaneously, while reading this. as for miss love... um... well, she's really beyond judgement as melissa rossi demonstrates in a unique way. i couldn't help developing a perverse admiration for courtney love, often shaking my head and wondering what she's made of... ! ... hurray for melissa rossi for capturing courtney's essence so well. this book is, at the very least, non-stop entertainment.
