Summary: ¿?Who KILLED Kurt Cobain¿?
Review: "Who Killed Kurt Cobain (The Mysterious Death of an Icon)" is a very well-written book. I must say that the author(s) of this book really did a great job. This book looks at all points of view, from Courtney Love to the band members, to the family, to the media, and even to Kurt himself. This book gives just about everyone a chance to say what they think happened to Kurt, and then presents evidence to prove/disprove theories. This book is a very interesting book I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get an understanding on what happened to Kurt. This book really does not state weather Kurt was killed or not, it just lays out some evidence and theories and let's you decide what you think really happened. It is an over-all good read, and I hope someday the case can be re-opened to see WHO KILLED KURT COBAIN.

Summary: Inconclusive, but you should be able to see the truth
Review: "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" was released in 1998, only four years after Cobain's death -- a relatively short amount of time. It is understandable that the evidence is not plentiful enough to make a solid conclusion. With the release of "Love and Death" (for which I am saving the fifth star) six years later comes much more evidence of the possible murder conspiracy. However, if you are just beginning to learn about the murder theory, don't just skip straight to "Love and Death" -- read this one too.

The difference between the two books is the amount of background information they provide. "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" gives a lot more information on Kurt and Courtney, the people, which could be necessary if you haven't read much on them. It also goes into some more detail on the supposed approaching of El Duce by Courtney Love, as well as the eery "coincidence" of the only police officer to investigate the case being the only SPD officer to die on or coming off of the job in eight years.

In short, the two books are very different -- "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" offers a more general look at the case, touching upon all of the evidence and even given a nice concise list at the end of one chapter. "Love and Death" focuses more upon the two most compelling pieces of evidence in support of the theory (the heroin level and the fact that the only person to talk about Kurt's suicidal tendencies was -- guess who? -- Courtney). I highly recommend both, and I also recommend looking up and looking over the essay "Dead Men Don't Pull Triggers" by Roger Lewis. It is a very scientific study of the physical impossibility of Kurt Cobain shooting himself. If you are not a medical student or a doctor, it will most likely go over your head (as it did mine) but it is worth looking at to show that no, everyone who pursues this theory is not simply a hack conspiracy theorist looking for notoriety.

Summary: Why is the murder theory case not re-opened?
Review: A superb book full of facts and stories relating to the mysterious events and unsolved circumstances relating to the death of my hero, Kurt Cobain. Was his sucicide note just a musical retirement note to his loving fans? Why is there someone else's handwriting on the so called suicide note? The legal systems in America must re open this case and send whoever killed Cobain down...Courtney Love? I recomend this book to anyone...even if you hated NIRVANA and thought Cobain was just a junkie, read this book and bring Cobain's killer to justice.

Summary: Want the TRUTH? read Kurts Journals!
Review: i believe the authors of any "murder theory" books are trying to make some money while raping Kurt in the process. Kurt felt like he was being raped by the media since Nevermind broke out, and now 10 years later, its still happening. I think the authors need to read Kurts Journals. There's even a time where he says "I bought a gun today and was going to kill myself, but I have a baby coming soon, so I got some herion instead". Read the journals for the truth. Its the truth from Kurt, not the guys who are raping him. You will also see his handwriting in the journals. The SAME handwriting that the authors say wasnt his (in the sucide note). You can tell when Kurt is on drugs by the difference of things he writes about and his handwriting. In Utero was originally titled "I hate myself and want to die", that sounds pretty straight forward to me. Kurt busted out of rehab and killed himself the next week. Why was Courtney calling Tom Grant? Because her husband busted out of rehab and he's mentally unstable. It makes sense. If Tom Grant had all this evidence with cassett tapes, why didnt se give them to the police? Why is it taken 10 years for this information to come out? For me, that doesnt add up.

Summary: A fascinating and - amazingly - true murder mystery
Review: I must advise anyone interested in buying this book to disregard anyone accusing it of being "tabloid" garbage. "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" is wonderful and thorough journalism. Can one entirely trust a few websites blatantly accusing Courtney Love of the murder? How do you know that these people aren't biased against Love in the first place? What about one study that covers the heroin aspect of the case alone, entitled "Dead Men Don't Pull Triggers"? Or a documentary, that could very well have no factual information? Each of these sources alone doesn't pull enough of its own weight to prove much of anything, but this book is a compilation of all of it, going into detail about all of the different claims made by conspiracy theorists but leaving the reader to come up with his or her own conclusion. It was, as the back cover states, "meticulously researched." Completely unbiased and written in the manner in which one would expect award-winning journalists to write, "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" makes no accusations. I was pleased to see that they added information about the lives of both Kurt and Courtney before Kurt's death to reveal their characters, thus shining some light on MOTIVE; why would Kurt commit suicide? Why would Courtney have him killed? Many have accused the first few biographical chapters to be nothing but re-statements of what everyone already knows, and that they don't go into as much detail as a full biography of Cobain. This is expected, and I - being only a casual fan of Nirvana - didn't know most of the biographical information. I'll be sure to check out "Come As You Are" for a more detailed story of Kurt's life. But in any case, this was not meant as a biography of Kurt Cobain OR a biography of Courtney Love, nor was it meant as a tool to convince people that Courtney Love killed her husband. It is, as I have said, a detailed compilation of the facts involving the case, and nothing more. Wallace and Halperin have written it for a noble purpose; for the same reasons that Tom Grant still pursues the case today: so that the many families of the copy-cat suicide victims all over the world can know the truth behind the reason their children killed themselves, and for Frances Bean who deserves to know how her father died. If defensive Courtney Love fans read it as a bunch of tabloid nonsense that blatantly accuses Love of murder, then perhaps Tom Grant is right on the money.

Summary: Want the TRUTH? read Kurts Journals!
Review: I thought that this book was quite interesting. Personally I feel that there are a lot of coincidences dealing with Kurt's death and although it could lead to foul play, these coincidences could simply be just that - coincidences.

But speaking on the matter of the book itself, I thought that it was well written. Until late into the book, the novel read more of a biography of Kurt and Courtney's life rather than a book about Courtney killing Kurt. As a matter of fact - anyone who has read this book will know that it actually never does state that Courtney killed Kurt. It simply states discrepincies in evidence and personal accounts of time.

I reccomend anyone interested in Kurt Cobain to read this book because it does hold a lot of interesting information whether you believe in the muder theories or not.

I also reccoment the follow up to this book, "Love and Death." It was a great read as well.

Summary: what I thought
Review: I thought this book was awesome. It helped me get an understanding of his life and death. I am now convinced that he was murdered and if you read this book, I hope you will too. Nirvana is one of my favorite bands even though I don't know much about them and when my sister got this book, I started reading it and knew alot within the first chapter. This book has a lot of details about ways it could've been a murder and I seriously think Courtney Love had something to do with it.

Summary: Biased book that reads like "The National Enquirer"
Review: I wouldn't reccomend this book to ANYONE. It made my blood boil. Only a few pages are dedicated to Kurt Cobain, and the rest is boring Courtney-bashing. The authors admit they have never met Courtney Love NOR Kurt Cobain, and their information is based on what they read in tabloid magazines, such as "Globe" and "Vanity Fair", and Hank Harrison's (Courtney's father who gave her acid as a child) drug-induced ramblings and stories. The book often contradicts itself, becomes boringly confusing, and is VERY hard-to-beleive. For example, the book claims that Courtney Love offered some overweight metal band-leader dressed in leather and chains named "el Duce" $50,000 to kill her husband, then they say that Kurt died of not suicide but a herion overdose, and then the drug dealer came along and blew his head off and wrote a fake suicide note (In Kurt's exact handwriting? I don't think so) to make it look like he killed himself..... THEN they ramble on about how they think COURTNEY killed him. The only good points are in the back of the book, there are some interesting photocopies of Kurt's suicide note, missing person reports, and letters from Courtney Love, ect. There is also a morbid picture of Kurt Cobain's body being carried away.... but overall, don't waste your money. If you want to read a REAL, tear-inducing book that focuses on reality and Kurt's LIFE (with a chapter on his death in the end), go out and get Michael Azzerad's "come as you are: The story of Nirvana".

Summary: Kurt Donald Cobain - RIP
Review: Ignore all the reviews here that give this book 1 star. They are cleary made by people who haven't read this book! Every point they make is covered in the book (eg. Courtney DID give interviews after his death... try the VERY NEXT DAY! Live on TV... Did she mention her album? Of course!)

TRUE Nirvana fans would want to know the truth.

I whole heartedly recommend reading this book. It is well researched and impartial. Please read it, it will open your mind.
