Summary: Very entertaining and informative!
Review: "All I Need to Know About Filmmaking I Learned From the Toxic Avenger" is a funny and irreverent look at the world of independent film from Troma Studios' president Lloyd Kaufman. It blends important tips for indie filmmakers with amusing anecdotes and sage wisdom from someone who's been there. The reader finds out a lot about Troma movies that otherwise they would never know! I highly recommend it.

Summary: Anyone who wants to make movies MUST read this book!!!
Review: Lloyd Kaufman's book (written with James Gunn) is the single best book I've ever read about filmmaking. Not to mention politics, censorship, philosophy and being happy with who you are. I found myself filled with such inspiration after reading what this genius went through to get where he is today, because that is where I want to be, too. Most of these type books, whether straight "how-to" guides, or autobiographies by filmmakers, seem to push you in the direction of Hollywood. But Mr. Kaufman shows me how to get outside the mainstream, using imagination, ingenuity and lots of sex, gore and rock'n'roll. Now that's my kind of career! A MUST READ!!!

Summary: Even Better Than Scientology!
Review: This book is a must read for anyone who enjoyed The Toxic Avenger, Class of Nuke 'Em High, or any of the wonderful Troma films!

Mr. Kaufman tells the story of the inception of Troma Studios, how he came to create some of their most memorable characters, and how readers can make some of the effects seen in his films.

The narrative also gives subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) hints on how to get started in the "industry". A very, VERY funny look at the inside of the mind of Lloyd Kaufman, and his "Movies of the Future". Go buy it! NOW!!

Summary: Some interesting, funny, and touching insight......
Review: Lloyd Kaufman's book about the history/daily life of Troma films is an interesting look at all facets of independent filmmaking.

There are the prerequisite gross humor and tasteless jokes that all Troma fans would expect, but there is also an element of heart and real feeling to the book. Lloyd clearly loves what he does, and wants us to love it, or at least understand it, too.

Highly reccomended for any Troma fan!

Summary: Simply one of the best books about filmmaking. Ever.
Review: This book is a blast of fresh air that emerges from amidst the foul, bloated stench of the major studios. ALL I NEED... is a truly honest, revealing, and downright hilarious trip through the history of Troma studios as well as Lloyd Kaufman's mind. Fantastic. Essential reading for anyone interested in the gritty reality of filmmaking, and anyone else as well. Highly recommended.

Summary: Very funny/eye opening stories about Lloyd Kaufman and Troma
Review: Despite its advertising, this is not really a "how to make independent film" book, rather it gives a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most successful independent film companies around today. The opening chapter entails a day in the life at the Troma. The details of the calamity seem to be very exagerated, but I subseqeuntly discovered (from valid sources) that that's how it really is there. Mr. Kaufman (co-founder of Troma along with Michael Herz) is a fine story teller. He talks about how Troma started, first aquiring low budget films, then venturing out to make their own. He explains the necessity of always keeping your film crews fed (witness his account on his filming of Troma's War), the execution of those crazy and dangerous stunts, and those beautiful, big breasted women, or Tromettes, for those in th know. Mr. Kaufman comes across as a nice guy who's driven to make movies no matter what, even it that means losing your mind and temper along the way. Many of the movies they release (of the horror, sex comedy, action adventure variety) are admittedly not very good, but there are some that have wit and heart such as THE TOXIC AVENGER and TROMEO & JULIET that shows that TROMA is a force to be reckoned with. It's a very fast read. My only complaint is that there were not enough stories, but the ones presented were pure, unadulterated, Troma. Big boobies and all.
