Rating: Summary: Surprisingly, one of the best autobiographies I ever read. Review: Surprisingly, one of the best autobiographies I ever read. Desi Arnaz was very underated, as an actor, TV pioneer, among other things. And through it all, what remains clear, and is comforting to know, he always and will always love Lucy.
Rating: Summary: Honest yet Funny Review: This book is entertaining and keeps you interested from the begining to the very end. It's a shame it's the only book Desi ever wrote. It's amazing to see what he accomplished considering he came over from Cuba with nothing. Literally ! Deffinetly worth the money if you're an I love Lucy fan.
Rating: Summary: How to Love Lucy, and Everything Else Review: This is a from rags to riches story
Desi Arnaz proved to be very clever for show business; evident in this engrossing, and revealing story. Throughout this narration the reader is able to catch a glimpse of the Latin culture, show business management, and the meaning of a winning attitude, among other things.
At first Desi struggled with menial jobs in the USA. At times partnering with his father, an exile who used to be wealthy in Cuba but penniless in Miami. One good day, while at a Miami Latin nightclub, he had the idea of using his guitar, the conga, and his understanding of Latin music to get out of that rut.
How could a 20-year-old man who did not have any acting training ended up in successful musical comedies on Broadway, and movies in Hollywood is remarkable. (Where he met Lucille Ball) I suppose his personality and guitar, the band, and that wild conga of his opened up doors usually closed to others.
His story, in my opinion, is movie material. His meeting of Lucille at a party sounds like love at first sight. The next day at the beach they met again and yet the presence of his girlfriend did not stop them from flirting with each other. Ignoring her, who broke off with him later on, he and Lucille talked for hours. After one night of love with Desi, Lucille broke off with her boy friend as well.
Through this fascinating narrative we love, and laugh with Desi Arnaz, and with Lucy. This book is a real page-turner, a story you wont be able to put down.
Rating: Summary: An insightful piece of work Review: This is an extemely well written book by Arnaz. Most celebrities, particularly those of his generation hired ghost writers to pump up their work. "A Book" seems to be an honest portrayal of a boy's life of relative wealth, a young man's struggle with poverty when he flees his country during a revolution and a man's rise to fame in the entertainment and business world. He pulls no punches about his personal behavior and the book is laced with humor and honesty.
Rating: Summary: Chalk up another talent for Arnaz . . . Writing! Review: This is not an "as told-to" autobiography; it is the REAL words of Desi Arnaz himself, as real as if he were sitting in the room talking to you. Most of the book is dedicated to describing the "I Love Lucy" years, as any Lucy-Desi fan would hope. He ends the book with his final fight with Lucille Ball, concluding with the statement that "I Love Lucy was never just a title," which is quite touching, when you consider that he totally omits the many years that he had since been married to someone else. Definitely a page-turner!

Rating: Summary: This is a excellent book describing Desi's deepest emotions. Review: This is one of the deepest books I have ever read. It describes Desi's emotional life, about his childhood, life during "I Love Lucy", life in his later years, and how he loved Lucy until his "Dying Days".
Rating: Summary: Sitting with Desi at the porch of his hacienda... Review: This is the way I feel everytime I read "A BOOK". As if I was in Cuba sitting at the hacienda and sipping on hot coffee while listening to Desi narrate his life.Much more than Lucy's husband this man has an interesting story to tell also. From the way the Cuban Revolution changed his life, to the way he revolutionized TV with the use of film and the three camera technique; every page has something that will make you laugh or cry. Desi is very open, honest and even blunt when telling his life story to the reader; getting you into the story and wanting to learn more until you reach the end. Very interesting and highly recomended!
Rating: Summary: A Book - Desi Arnaz Review: Very good book. Recommended for all "I LOVE LUCY" fans.
Rating: Summary: Nice, enjoyable read Review: When Desi Arnaz wrote this book in the 1970s, he was an older man looking back on his youth. This book reads like you were sitting down next to him on the porch swing, and he's telling you his life story. As such, there are a lot of inaccuracies. However, the stories are great to read and hear about. You'll learn a lot about his music and life before Lucy. His days in Cuba are almost more interesting than his life on the road or in Hollywood. Surprisingly, it touches on "I Love Lucy," a little less than you'd think, and if you've read other books about the show, what is mentioned here will all sound familiar. However, it is Desi's story in his own words. And it's a book you can sit down and just while away the hours with.
