Rating: Summary: A Real Life Journey Review: An "in your face" style memoir by Carnie Wilson of her struggle with obesity and her eventual triumph through gastric-bypass surgery. Carnie recounts her life as a child, struggling to connect with her troubled father Brian Wilson. She points to several complex theories as to her history of weight problems and eventual addiction to marijuana. It's not a particularly well written book and the extreme use of expletives might turn some people off. At times I felt it read like an "infomercial" for Spotlight Health, the website that aired Carnie's surgery. What it is, is a refreshingly honest account of her frustration with not being able to control her life and the impact it made on those around her. In the end, Gut Feelings is an inspiring story about a young woman who finally overcomes her life threatening obesity and drug addiction with surgery, hard work and the love and support of her family.
Rating: Summary: AN INSPIRATIONAL STORY! Review: As a counsellor, there are a vast number of people who have come to my office with feelings of rejection, insecurity and low self-esteem. We all feel those emotions from time to time, but when they become chronic or debilitating to the point one has lost their quality of life, it is time to seek help. Our emotions can also play havoc with our physical health, resulting in a variety of illnesses and unexplained aches and pains."Gut Feelings" is truly an inspirational story of a woman who has suffered from emotional rejection, eating disorders and obesity. Like many othe emotional compulsive disorders and addictions, there is no quick fix and no overnight cure but there is, indeed, light at the end of the tunnel. The book is not just for those suffering from eating disorders, but for anyone who feels they are not in control of their life for whatever reason. Many individuals feel like a ship drifting aimlessly at sea, precariously floating from port to port beyond their control. If the reader has serious or chronic emotional difficulties qualified, professional therapy is by far the best option; however, the book can provide some helpful suggestions in gaining control one's life. While it is true that what works for one does not necessarily work for everyone, readers will find Carnie Wilson tells a gutsy, inspiring story.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Biography, A Must Read!! Review: As a woman who has a 100+lbs to lose, Carnie Wilson has given me a look into my own future(I have a scheduled consult for WLS). As for the foul language, sometimes as human beings we need to vent. This didn't bother me at all. She is a wonderful role model for all of us fat people. I give her a standing ovation clap, clap.....

Rating: Summary: An inspiring story Review: Being 102 pounds overweight I found this book VERY interesting. I am considering weight loss surgery (WLS) and bought it hoping to hear more about what her life is like being post-op. Rather, the majority of the book is dedicated to how she got to the point where she felt WLS was her only hope. Her struggle with weight is one that millions of people have. I admire her ability to go public with such a personal struggle. I would recommend this book to anyone considering WLS or anyone that knows someone who is morbidly obese. The feelings she felt apply to the majority of obese people and it might help frieinds and family understand what it is like to live as an obese person. My husband read part of the book (when I made him) so he could read about how I feel. She was able to say it better than I can because I'm still very emotional about my struggle. The only thing I didn't like about the book is that I don't like to be surrounded by foul language. She uses VERY expletive language (specifically the "F" word) and it really lends nothing to the story. Frankly, I'm very surprised that the language wasn't edited out.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Story! Great Inspiration for Anyone. Review: Carnie is a true inspiration for anyone! Her story of overcoming obesity and finding balance in her life is great for anyone looking for a true success story. Although she relied on a drastic surgery for help, she still, and ultimately had to rely on herself. Her fantastic personality and motivating energy shines through in this easy to read book. I only wish she had included a CD with the book--because her music and voice are a true gift. I drive a high school carpool and will reccommend this to all my gils obsessed with their weight. Goodbye! --Carmen
Rating: Summary: There's hope after all... Review: Carnie really opens up her heart by sharing her childhood and adult memories of the struggles she had with morbid obesity, and struggles with just everyday life in her career as an entertainer. I admire her for writing this book. I admire her lovely singing voice. I admire her for the personable, compassionate person she is. I think it took a lot of "guts" to open her heart to the public the way she has through her book and through dealing with the media. I hope her life will continue to take a positive path and that she maintains all that she has accomplished.
Rating: Summary: Insightful! Review: Carnie Wilson writes this book in a way that is both interesting and informative. Granted, gastric bypass surgery isn't for everybody - but it obviously worked for her, bringing her down to a size 6. Good for her! I'd recommend this book to anybody who has had a weight problem and/or is considering surgical procedures for weight loss - or is just looking for a kick in the seat of the pants to start living healthfully!
Rating: Summary: my review on the book Review: Carnie Wilson's "Gut Feelings" describing her fight with morbid obesity and her successful stapling surgery is, to use a couldn't-resist label, a lightweight book. That said, readers who suffer from extreme overweight and its many attendant health problems, can take heart in Wilson's heartfelt narrative. Born to a father famous in the pop music world and a loving, supportive mother, Carnie is a good-looking, personable woman who tells her story in a straight-forward, although slightly repetitive fashion. Parents, be forewarned about the casual attitude toward sex and drugs. Wilson's prose is laced with L.A. slang and profanity which no doubt reflects her speech, so that the book has an informal conversational tone. She is frank about her internal struggles, about feeling unloved by her father, and about fearing the surgery that transformed her life. She has bid farewell to double cheeseburgers, fries and onion rings now, and, judging from the "after" photographs, she looks vibrantly happy and healthy.
