Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This book was highly entertaining from the first to the last page. The best autobiography i have ever read. By reading this it just shows just how smart manson really is. This book should be read by fans and non-fans alike, old or young, big or small. If you already disliked manson before you read this book, you will probably still dislike him by the end but you will at least gain a different perspective and learn why he does what he does. a MUST read.
Rating: Summary: A good read not only for fans.. Review: but for anyone who believes that they know what Manson is about, because outside of his fans, nobody does. I read this book wanting to know and try to understand what makes Marilyn click, and he has answered all of my questions. This book is a very good read, very interesting, and quite addictive. Marilyn writes about his life experiences which tranformed him into what he is today. He tells you his views on alot of subjects in a very insightful way. After reading this you will understand and will discover that many of his views will make you question things that go on in our world and make you realize a few other truths that perhaps most of us don't like to admit or just never really give alot of thought to. Marilyn is very caring, funny, and a genius. He is usually misunderstood by a widely judgemental and self-rightoues society. So for any one who "thinks" that they know what he is about, read this, and he will succeed in setting the record straight.
Rating: Summary: the best book made of all time Review: Here are some reasons why you should read Marilyn Mansons. Hard road out of hell. It talks about how to become yourself and not like someone else. If you like his music, he talks about how he came up with those songs. All of his songs have something to do with some occurance in his life time. I think Marilyn Manson is the smartiest and the most brightiest man alive. He has made me discover some thoughts, and made me believe in something toldely different then someone else. All these reasons I have listed in this review is why I think you should read this book.
Rating: Summary: In The NightSide E*C*L*I*P*S*E Review: This book has left a hallowing impact on me and has shown me what a beautiful person Marilyn Manson truly is. He is one of the most inspiring people on this earth and one of the most honest musicians. He is not intimidated by the realism of his own thoughts and opinions, and states what he thinks in all forms manageable. I admire him for this undiminishing raw spirit and the way in which he is able to present himself. This book is definately one of the best books i have ever read, philosophically as well as an autobiography. It is a power that he has to create art and beauty out of his own personal darkness, and this is something I aspire to accomplish as well. Thus he has been an enormous inspiration to me and will undoubtably leave a deep slashmark on the world...... I love Marilyn Manson...
Rating: Summary: I thought i knew it all Review: This book enters the new darkness never before revealed by MM. The troubles though his childhood. His "teenage years"MM is A wierd person but his music can inspire us all!
Rating: Summary: Nice and strange. a cocktail of weirdness Review: Well some nice background stories and some nice things he has done in his life...and what happened around him. That's what you get! You get to read about a part of his life....the beginning, the tours...the drugs and women. If you like Marylin Manson I suggest you buy it, yet if you don't like him...leave it in the shops. This is about him...and him and his friends only!
Rating: Summary: Hate Manson? Read this anyway! Review: I'll start this review off by saying that I'm not a huge Marilyn Manson fan or anything. I like him as a person, and most of his music, but nothing major. What does this have to do with a book review, you're thinking? Well, I didn't think I'd like this book very much, but I was proven wrong. The book starts out dealing with his childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. This is how it all started. It's a disturbing, dark, and true tale. Marilyn Manson's addicting read should be followed by a novel, or more books, considering he's a very good author. Neil Strauss just contributed things, he didn't write. A bonus for the book is that it had about 5 pages of color photos, and alot of black and white ones throughout the book. Needless to say, this is a very original book.
Rating: Summary: Very Interesting Bio Review: I love biographical books and I love MM's music, so I picked this up. First of all, expect ignorant people to look down on you, and stare and be suprised. The lady at the bookstore made sure a crowd of readers heard who the author I was looking for was, by announcing it at just the right time, so I would have to walk past them with their disdain (one lady put down her book when she heard his name, stared mouth agape and quickly thrust it back over her face). It's written in an odd style and very entertaining and honest, throughout it, you always try to assemble things in a visual way in your mind. Some things The entire thing is written in the Anti-Christ SvperStar era, so he gives little or no emotion on what he's reporting matter-of-factly, I believe if it were written today it would be very different. It's not a very long read. In all, I would say buy Holy Wood (2000) first and then see if you want this book, you'll enjoy it as a MM fan, you either love him or hate him. It's probably got it's fair share of lies in it, for interest. This book isn't a must-have, but it answers some questions beyond impersonal interviews.
Rating: Summary: The only problem is... I hope he is telling the truth Review: It sure feels like its true and that I really know manson, but it is clearly not that simple. I would have aggressively forked over the cash for this book just for the pictures, alone, and because of the fact that he wrote it. Not even counting the wonderous poems and quotes from those that influenced him, or happened to fit nicely into the book and the fact that this insightful man (against all odds, some people don't usually view rock god/glam-trash idols such as MM as insightful) has written a book that is actually an intelligent look at growing up. This autobiography brings out the creepiest aspects of childhood, conveying the terror and fascination that young Brian felt when looking through his grandfather's pornography, getting his first French kiss, and being taunted by the girls he wanted to "date." Manson has the benefit of having grown up as an outcast and loser and then having become a star without forgetting what he went through, which is rare. This gives him an incredibly broad perspective, which he brings to bear on his ordinary life in order to convey the more potent and frightening moments that shaped him into the pale-skinned weirdo that the Christians love to hate. Best of all, Manson is full of honesty, and portrays himself as occasionally stupid, self-centered, overly-sensitive, ignoble, and, most importantly, highly fallible and human. It's a long way from the auto-hagiographies that other stars have written, and it's easily one of the best reads in celebrity bio. This book is a really good example that popular culture is everywhere including the silly-people filled suburbs and smaller bedroom communities.
Rating: Summary: The Long Hard Review of Brian Warner Review: The author of this book is Marilyn Manson with Neil Strauss. The title is The Long Hard Road Out of Hell, and it was published by ReganBooks. There are other books about the author, but not written by him. The author is a musican and his music is readily available at most music outlets. As he describes, in his own words, goths would most likely enjoy this book. People that are upset with the world and don't understand it. People looking for an outlet to let out their fantasies and for people who want to read about a famous rock star. The book has 3 main parts: When I was a Worm, Deformography, and How I got my Wings. There are several chapters under those parts. The is an autobiography, and it starts out in his childhood and continues until 1998. When I was a Worm is referring to himself in his childhood and the things that happened which influenced how he is now. Deformography consists of when he went to Florida and started a band, and experimented. Lastly, How I got my Wings is about when he is famous and him struggling and coming to himself more. In this book Marilyn is very to the point and describes everything. I wouldn't recommend this book for even a junior high child, high school should be okay. You need an open-mind and look past the make-up and crazy fantasies. If you can see that, he too can be a human being. Overall I enjoyed the book. I didn't know what to quite expect from a rock n roll artist, especially an autobigraphy from Marilyn Manson. So many people have their minds made up about him and have judged him already. After reading this, he's not this evil entity, he's just a person. It also opens your eyes into the perpective of another and you can see the world through different eyes.
