Rating: Summary: To Hell and Back Review: This autobiography is amazing! I bought it to find out more about this controversial band named Marilyn Manson after having listened to most of his albums. I have never read a book in surch short time, literally in one sitting! I never thought it would be so well written after having seen how weird this guy is! But be warned, it contains bad language, drugs and sex. I litarally went to hell and back reading this book, I recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about Marilyn Manson.
Rating: Summary: Give the devil his due Review: Look, I'm not a fan of hard rock. I'm 29 and I always hated the likes of Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Ozzy. Before reading this book, one of the few things of Manson's I was familiar with was the (hilarious) promo he did with Ben Stiller for an MTV awards show. That and his (very disturbing and captivating) performance of "The Beautiful People" during the show. And his videos, I guess, which I always would think, "This is just shock rock shit, Jesus, this is disgusting and so totally marketed to acne-ridden morons who drink tall-boys"...but, you know something? for some reason, I'd never change the channel. So I knew he was smart, and he would ineviatably have some of the best "sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll" stories to tell. So I figured it would be a fun state-of-the-art "rock" book. Manson delivers exactly that, but not at all in the contexts I anticipated. The book begins with Manson detailing his adolescence: his pervert grandfather, his experiences in Catholic School, his first, awkward sexual encounters. Guess what? There's a good chance you'll be surprised by how familiar a lot of these situations seem, and how much you recognize them from your own youth. (sorry, grandpa) The book then goes on to discuss his transformation from wormish Brian Warner to big, bad Marilyn Manson. But here's the twist: he doesn't come off as some idiotic, megalomaniacal schmuck: he pulls off the neat trick of telling the tale with a sense of humility and humanity. There are moments here of genuine surpirse and compassion. And humor. I could go on and on, but the point is: read it. Whoever you are.
Rating: Summary: VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT Review: I'v always liked Mr.Manson but after reading this, I have more respect for him than I ever did. If you really hate him and dont get what he's about, like the ignorant fool who tore the pages out and set it on fire, read this and maybe you'll understand a little better. It tells his morals and what he's against. And I got one thing to say to the people who are against him and still read the book: WHY THE HELL DID YOU READ IT IF YOU ARE AGAINST HIM?! "American by birth...Antichrist by choice."
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: I've read the book 4 times and each time it's just as good as the first time. It totally changed my opinion of Marilyn. I liked his music before I read this, but didn't like him. Now I RESPECT him, he's a lot smarter than people think he is.
Rating: Summary: Not a devil worshipper, but I like it! Review: I enjoyed this book. It had a sense of humor. Twisted humor, in some instances, but humor nonetheless. In a way it was inspiring-I felt like putting together a band myself. I think he truly does have a message for all us listeners. We can interpret it in any which way we want, and some may find the bluntness he uses to express it insulting, but only a closed mind can safely label Marilyn Manson a satanist or something of the sort and have their conscience let them get away with it. Anyway, I recommend it to anyone and send it off with five stars for my own personal seal of approval!
Rating: Summary: Very Intelligent Man!!! Too Intelligent! Review: I would like to say the book was very interesting and i throughly enjoyed the book. The only thing that annoyed me was his stories! He just went too over the top with him in his childhood etc. The man obviously doesn't believe everything he preaches. But there is truth in everything he does. For instance we all know Marilyn Manson would not be where he is today if it wasn't for him being SO over the top. His make up and him ripping up the bible in concerts and wiping his behind with the american flag. YOU know i wonder if he is laughing at his fans right now, with his millions! But none the less a very intelligent man and a very good book. I read the whole book in less than i day, i couldn't put it down! I have to say i love his music and i agree with him on many points. Oh yeah, and pls email me if you want more info on the book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: This is an excellent and interesting book. I read it in about half a day. The only thing in it I don't like are his trip stories. Even if you don't buy this, check it out from the library. Read it no matter what!
Rating: Summary: IF YOU DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT MANSON READ THE BOOK Review: PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY THINK MANSONS A SATANIST BUT IF YOU READ HIS BOOK YOU WILL START TO UNDERSTAND THAT HE IS MUCH DEEPER THAN WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE AND HE WANTS TO GIVE PEOPLE A SHOCKING EXPIERIENCE SO THATS WHY HE DRESSES THE WAY HE DOES
Rating: Summary: crude, but adictive, it's like drugs Review: It's a short biography, of one of the most polemic rock stars, I'm not a big fan, but I got carried away when I started reading. It's very welll written, I can almost say that it takes you to another world.
Rating: Summary: More than you ever wanted to know Review: I never liked Marilyn Manson until I sat down and listened to "Antichrist Superstar." I decided to learn more about Marilyn Manson (Brian Warner) to see if any of the hype and hysteria was valid. The book is a disturbing one. I was disgusted by the filthy acts described, his grandfather's basement, the treatment of fans, the out-of-control drug use.... On the other hand, MM is an intriguing character. Despite his declaration of having no morals and not caring about anyone, I think that he really does care and when he's not on drugs, he probably feels remorse at some of the stupid stunts that he has pulled. I think he views it as a weakness and it shames him, so he tries to come across as someone who doesn't give a s---. Overall, I am interested in Manson's philosophies. There is some truth in things that he says and I think that some people know it and they hate him for bringing it out in the open. I like Marilyn Manson's music, but I don't think I'd like to spend a day with the guy.
